So happy you landed in my feed! This is the best curated bundle of patterns. Added bonus, they are free - WOW!!! Your commentary is also super helpful. You have a new subscriber.
I am so impressed with this video! Here's what I loved most: 1) You actually made and offered feedback on many of your suggestions, that's so ideal! 2) Your taste is excellent! I had to continually stop knitting to save the patterns I liked. 3) Your style is so clear, concise, and direct. This was the best and most useful gift knitting video I've seen. Thank you for all the work you put into this!!
Thanks for the effort to test them! BTW, a nice technique with the snowflakes can also be to make them in cotton, linen, or bamboo yarn (even basic, old Aunt lydia's) and then starch it. How do I know? We crocheted snowflakes one million years ago in Girl Scouts and then starched and ironed them to make ornaments. 😀 Don't waste money on expensive spray startch (if you can find it). Just mix 3 tablespoons cornstarch in 2 cups of water and put in a spray bottle. Shake before spraying and flush the nozzle with clear water when you're done. It works even better if heated to a boil and cooled first.
I have knit the Bear Ears Beanie for a friend's daughter. She loved it. After receiving it she wouldn't take it off. I even made it from a fun variegated yarn.
Great list! I liked hearing your story about your first sock knit. I can totally relate. After I knit my first heel turn I was so excited and told everyone “knitting is magic”!
These patterns are all really lovely and the fact they're free is amazing im going to knit up a lot of these definitely the nordic mittens and all the ornaments ❤ thank you 😊
Thank you for your research in curating an awesome set of free patterns. 💖🙌😺 PS-- I appreciate you creating a 'bundle', makes it easier to toggle between them all. 😋
Thank you! Congratulations on putting together this so documented video, a lot of preparation for it I hope people hit 👍🏼 many many times to show appreciation for your efforts 👏🏻👏🏻
What an incredible list of patterns! I'm gonna go ahead and add quite a few to my Ravelry favourites🥰 When it comes to hat for gifts I really love the Jason's cashmere hat pattern, with is a free cable hat pattern, worsted weight, easy and quick to make but looks lovely with the simple cables (great first cable project too!)
Thank you so much for this incredible video! The work you put into curating this list and into linking every item individually as well as creating the bundle is very much appreciated!
I know that you're wearing a black tee and you have a mic, but can I just say.....a VERY black Sophie scarf would look lovely on you with that sweater!!!!! And it's also a good Christmas knit, albeit not free. Great podcast. I'm glad to be a new sub.
I just loved your episode with the free patterns. I have made the Two by Two hat at least 5 times and love it. I have also made many pairs of Tin Can Knits mittens. I am going to try a few others that you recommended - still time for some last minute holiday knits. Thank you for your podcast - I have watched many knitting podcasts but many don't hold my interest - yours have been terrific! Good luck to you!
Very nice selection of gift knits! So impressed at how many you have knit yourself and appreciate you sharing what yarns you used and what your experience and thoughts on each pattern are. Happy to have stumbled across your podcast and definitely hit the subscribe button! Thank you 😊
I had the same experience when I knit my first sock! Mind blown! But I waited till I was in my 60s 😂😂😂. PS you are so beautiful! Gorgeous skin… gorgeous eyes… and obviously smart! Thanks for finding these patterns!
Thank you for sharing the Meadow scarf, Hillary. I've also discovered some lovely patterns from this episode. Looking forward to watching more from your channel. xx
Ah yesssssss.... Thank you for telling us about different patterns and actually show us the end product.. I get annoyed when so many will say look 30 patterns but have never done them Your amazing and your work is amazing!!! ✨
Great round up. I am going to make the petite knit candies but I didn’t think of using them with lavender….Im going to do that!!! Thanks for all the ideas
Such great gift knitting ideas! Thank you!!! I’ve never seen you on RUclips before but you seem lovely so I’m happy to be a new sub! Thanks for sharing I will definitely knit a few of these! :)
i've actually rarely had a mitten have directions that were different for each mitt!! sometimes i think for simplicity they'll make the fronts and the backs the same, therefore it can be flipped to be a mirror. you must knit much more sophisticated patterns than i usually pick LOL :) thank you for knitting all of these!
Great list of thoughtful knits! Bonus for being free patterns!! I've saved several I'd love to make...maybe not for this Christmas because I'm a slow, casual (and mostly selfish) knitter, but maybe if I plan ahead, I can make some next year. May try one of two this winter, though, just maybe not as gifts. 😂 I've subbed, too, because you're delightful. 😊
If you want to use acrylic or polyester yarn for snowflakes, you can still block them and have them hold their shape, mix a solution of glue and water 1 to 1, dip them, pin them out and let them dry. They are perfect for Christmas tree ornaments when you do this. you can co this with any type of yarn...
Thanks for the great suggestions! My queue just grew a bit. I especially love that stash dive scarf because I am super overwhelmed by my scraps. I don't know if I will have time to knit one this year but it's definitely something I'll knit for one of my nieces.
I recently made slippers from crazy hands knitting and crochet. Also free patterns and tutorials. Just 1 size in the tutorial but just changing the stitch count and rows should be easy enough make different sizes.
You're right, that information would be really helpful, I totally forgot! All of the hats mentioned are bottom up. The House Socks are toe up and all others are cuff down. Thanks!

For the snowflake while wet spray them with a 50/50 water-elmers glue solution. It will stiffen them and they will hold their shape.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to have to try that out.
I rally enjoyed this clear and concise review! Well presented! Looking forward to seeing your other episodes!❤

ooooh some dk socks are a great idea - I have a bunch of odds and ends that could get used up making those and they would def get worn.
Yes! Scrappy DK socks are the best when it's cold this time of year
Something I would like to know that wasn’t said are hats bottom up or socks top down or what. Thanks you did a great job
Since they are all free patterns it’s easy to look into each pattern and find out.
You're right, that information would be really helpful, I totally forgot!
All of the hats mentioned are bottom up. The House Socks are toe up and all others are cuff down. Thanks!
Great and helpful video! Thanks.
You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching!
I'm wondering about your method for making mirror image mitts - if the design has a pattern that is the same all over, then surely if you move the placement of the thumb gusset within the round, you'll still end up with two identical mitts, right?
This was my thought too.
Good question! I didn’t do a great job of explaining my process.
So let’s say you have a mitten that is 20 stitches. If I’m doing magic loop that means I have 10 stitches on either side of the loop:
XXXXXXXXXX < top of magic loop (back of hand)
XXXXXXXXXX < bottom of magic loop (palm)
For this example, let’s say the pattern has you work your thumb gusset over the first 3 stitches:
XXXXXXXXXX < top of magic loop (back of hand)
XXXXXXX {XXX} < bottom of magic loop (palm) {} = thumb gusset
To make the alteration, I work the thumb gusset over the last 3 stitches (instead of the first 3) on the palm side of my magic loop
XXXXXXXXXX < top of magic loop (back of hand)
{XXX} XXXXXXX < bottom of magic loop (palm) {} = thumb gusset
Because the number of stitches on the back of the hand is the same and the gussets are worked on either side of the palm they end up slightly different.
I’m still not sure this makes sense 😂 I think I’ll try to put together a short video to walk through this with better visuals.
@@NewMoonKnitting I prefer to just use DPN than magic loop. I could see this making more sense with magic loop.
@@NewMoonKnitting thanks for the explanation! I still think they would essentially be identical though, provided that there is no pattern or stitch number difference between the palm and the back of the hand, and the thumb gusset is symmetrical. I mean I could decide to place my thumb gusset like this:
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXX {XXX} XXX
and the finished mitt would still be identical to your examples. because if it's a tube with the only distinguishing feature being the thumb gusset, I can just turn the tube so the thumb gusset is where I need it to be regardless of where my beginning of round is. or am I overlooking something?
@@eebiebeebieI agree. Unless there’s a distinctly different stitch pattern on the palm and the back they will still be the same.
Thank you❤!
