I’m a new-ish knitter. I learned to crochet when i was around 8 or 9, so i have background with working with fiber. I struggled to understand the ins and outs of knitting until i came across Cocoknits. Julie has a way of explaining things that just made sense to me. If you haven’t heard of Cocoknits or the “Cocoknits method”. I’d highly, highly recommend it.
Two of Wands and starcrossed knits are my absolute favorite designers. I do like the PetiteKnit pieces I've made, but since everyone makes them I tend to get bored seeing them in my feed over and over. I love the sporty chic silhouettes from Two of Wands and how many of her patterns are free and more accessible to beginners. Starcrossed knits has the prettiest, most feminine patterns and she always includes super helpful details on customizing the fit, she's also a super sweet person and so funny!
I love PetiteKnit patterns - she's an amazing designer who deserves all the hype she receives. I like the timelessness of many of her designs - very wearable everyday patterns that also adapt to common trends.
Lol, I am one of those who never knit a Sophie scarf; can you believe it! Call me a party pooper, but it reminds me more of a rope than a scarf, and I can`t stand anything tied around my neck which is that thin and tight. All right, that`s just me. I think Petite Knit has a lot of nice pattern otherwise. The constructions are very unique and I am not used to knitting top down stuff. Back in the day, I started knitting in 1971, we knitted on straight needles and only bottom up, making all the different parts and then sewing them together. Knitting came a long way since then. Love from Germany.
Martin Storey has a lot of great designs for men and I also like some of the Arne and Carlos designs for men. I have yet to knit a Petite Knit design but some of them are definitely on my wish list.
The sophie scarf is literally the reason I started knitting! I saw someone wearing one at an organizing event and furiously started googling to figure out how I could make one myself. It ended up being the perfect beginner pattern for me since I liked learning a few techniques in one and didn't mean keeping track of where I was the whole time. I just noted each row with a tally mark on the pattern. Unfortunately, I don't actually wear the two I've made that much, but they have come in handy a few times. The only thing I regret about starting my knitting journey with PetitKnit patterns is that so many other patterns seem imprecise or not well written to me now.
I love Petite Knit's Monday Sweater. I think I made 3 of them last year. Thanks for the video I purchased the Stockholm and the Northland after watching your video.
You did a very good job knitting all the beautiful sweaters, well done! I am from germany and have been knitting since I was 4 years old. I knitted a few of Petite Knit's patterns (cumulus blouse 3, sunday cardigan, saturday night sweater, novice sweater chunky edition, holiday slipover) and I really enjoy them all. I also like patterns of my favorite things knitwear (a beautiful classic is sweater no12, cardigan no 7, sweater no 14 v-neck) and also le knit (dahlia sweater and dahlia my size) are amazing patterns. And for really experienced knitters I can recommend the clotilde cardigan by knitting for olive. One of my favorites but I started over several times and really wanted to cry twice ;-)
I had issues with the eyelet pattern when knitting Anna’s Summer Cardigan as well. I saw someone on Ravelry had omitted them so I just did the same. All your knits are lovely ☺️
I agree with the Brooklyn Tweed recommendation for men's sweaters...I am starting the Grist pattern this week for my 16 year old son. The patterns are beautifully written and charted and offers generous support.
I love her patterns and am knitting my second champagne cardigan for myself. I've made 2 zipper sweater man sweaters and will be making the lighter version for my husband this year and the woman zipper for me. (Already have the yarn) i have made many of her baby knitts as baby gifts) the most patterns i own from one designer are her patterns and knitting for olive. ❤ love them both!!!!
For men's pattern designers I can recommend Paul Haesemeyer & Maxim Cyr. Never had issues with their sweaters before and they usually fit well and are well written
I've never made a petite knit pattern, but I follow a lot of knitters who do. Right now I'm knitting the Anyday Sweatshirt by Ysolda and I'm really enjoying it. It starts at the back of the shoulders so I think you would like it. ❤🧶
Just came across your podcast. What a great episode! I am a huge fan of Petite Knits. They are such classics in my wardrobe. I just finished the Poppy Tee knit in black and I LOVE IT. I also love my Eva Cardigan. Kim
Thank you, this is an excellent review! I was looking for a recommendation on a Petite Knit sweater and now I have it, for myself and my husband. (I also tried the Anna's baby sweater with the eyelets and it was not a success because the pattern did not lead one to success - the yarnover holes were impossible to align.)
I have knitted the Champagne cardigan and 2(different gauges) Eva Cardigans. Eva has a beautiful shape and great fit and I'll probably knit a third one.
I actually haven’t made any Petite Knit patterns because they look too store bought for me. But I love watching these videos and seeing all the makes on different people and hearing what they thought about the patterns. I did buy the pattern for the Anker tee so I want to make that one.
Absolutely, something that looks handmade has a wonderful charm that the store bought looking garments just don't have. I love my Ranunculus top by Midori Hirose because it has such a lovely handmade quality, it's so cute! I think the Anker Tee is definitely one of those PetiteKnit patterns that look more organic, I've been eyeing it for a while 😍
This was an amazing pattern that I made for my husband. It was a relatively quick knit as its for Arun weight. (I did in worsted and it worked out fine, but I knit a little loose, so guage was no problem. I did the crew collar, not rolled, as I feel the same about the rolled color as you do, too bulky!!

My favourite designer is definitely Fabel Knitwear, with Lily Kate France as close second. From Petite Knit, I've only ever knitted the Sophie sisters. I didn't have to count the decreases because of the row counter app I use - I just plugged them in and the app warned me when they were due. But yeah, they're a bit overrated. Cute and nice for a gift, though. As for men's sweaters, the two names that come to mind are Maxim Cyr and Jared Flood. Both have amazing and well-rounded masculine designs
I also had trouble with the eyelets in the Anna Sweater. Particularly in the arms / shoulder sections at the start. Made it work but couldn't follow the chart at all 😅
You have a very nice collection of Petiteknit. You sold me on the stockholm sweater. I love the double folded collar and drop shoulder design. I made her Monday sweater which I like but the double folded collar just looks a bit off. I want to make another Monday sweater but next time I will either add more rows to the collar or keep it single. Btw, your lavender sweater is so pretty!
Your video has completely sold me on PetiteKnit's patterns, and I am sharing your video with a friend who will absolutely love it too! Question: Have you made the Lulu Slipover from PetiteKnit and do you have any first-hand experience to share about it? I am getting ready to start it using Rowan Felted Tweed but want to modify the neckline to be not as substantial as shown on the website - almost a turtleneck. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can modify the pattern to make the neck band more like a crew neck? Perhaps using the instructions from a different PetiteKnit sweater pattern? Thanks for your insight and the great video.
Hello I am currently making the Ingrid sweater and love it. I find it so much fun to knit. Having said that I have run into a question on the Body chart. Row 19, the first stitch on the chart? Cannot understand how to begin the row. Any help you offer would be appreciated. Thanks for your videos you really are a talented knitter.
Petite knit and Isager, and all the other Danish designers! Check out the archives collection, she features a bunch of great Danish designers. And she just put out a favorited movies collection, so fun, plus her daughter and her have the yarn brand.😮
Stunning 😍 every single one! Question: you mentioned loving the construction of the Ingrid sweater, I’ve never knit a sweater with that construction and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for simple patterns with a similar construction to try first before I attempt the Ingrid? - coming from a intermediate beginner knitter 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Thank you for your comment 🤗The Stockholm Sweater by PetiteKnit essentially has the same construction, it only doesn't have short rows on the back panel, so it's a great one to test the waters. I've also made the Typical Mohair Slipover by Typical Bliss in this construction (which you can substitute the mohair with any other fibre btw). Some other PetiteKnit patterns that I'm pretty sure are in this construction (that I haven't knit) are the Cloud Sweater, Sonja Sweater, Melange Sweater. Hope this helps xx
Just found you and loved your video and I too love petite knits. I have some lovely 4 ply and don’t know what to use it for….any ideas, please? Thank you.
Thank you lovely! It'll soon be summer so it's camisole and tee time! Maybe a Cumulus Tee by PetiteKnit, or Knitting for Olive have so many gorgeous top patterns for 4 ply :)
Violet looks gorgeous on you and I have to admit for a minute I thought I see young Jennifer Connelly!! The zipper sweater and Ingrid are super pretty in your collection...
Thank youu ❤️ I think it’s because there are many different techniques within it. Mock cables, short rows, charts etc. Also, some instructions aren’t explained all the way, the pattern assumes you are more of an experienced knitter. It says stuff like “carry short rows in pattern”, which isn’t the most straightforward for some beginners. That being said, the techniques themselves aren’t terribly complicated, and there are so many good videos to get help from 🤗

100% agreed
Maxim Cyr makes lovely men’s sweaters. I knit up the single malt for my husband last year.
Agree 100% My husband knits and we call Maxim his knitting boyfriend - he loves Max's patterns :)
Ahhh thank you, I just checked his IG, LOVE IT!
I also love his patterns, also Jarrod Flood and Martin Storey for men’s sweaters.

I wonder why the eyelet is so tricky on that cardigan!! Thank you 🥰
I agree with the Brooklyn Tweed recommendation for men's sweaters...I am starting the Grist pattern this week for my 16 year old son. The patterns are beautifully written and charted and offers generous support.
Jared Flood/Brooklyn Tweed have great men's sweaters - I have knit a few for my husband and two teenage sons!

Love your video. Thank you. I found the Eva Cardigan by PetiteKnits very easy and quite to knit. It is, so far, my favorite.

My favorite PetiteKnit patterns are the Ankers Sweater, the No Frills Sweater and the Novice Sweater.

I'm making a Cumulus now with linen, let's see how it goes...
I LOVVEE linen, I predict it's going to be amazing!
For men’s sweaters I like knitwits and yarns. On you tube and Etsy.
Brooklyn Tweed has a bunch of sweater patterns that are unisex or for men. Their pattern page has filters to help identify them.

Max is amazing. Some of his designs are also listed as Les Garcons. My first sweater was the Single Malt, which has a wonderful texture (moss stitch)

What headband are you wearing? It it just one of those knit fabric ones or does it have plastic in it
It’s just a normal plastic headband :)
Did you use the recommended yarn for all of these sweaters ?
No I changed it up for most of them!
the "team ingrid" or "team moby" is too real 😭
For your Marble Sweater, are you holding 3 strands of yarn at a time?
I was holding 4: 2 Drops Air, 1 Alpaca Silk and 1 cotton :)

Personally I find that PetiteKnit is a little overrated and as a more curvy woman I find that they are way too much boxy and with a lot of positive ease that are not as much flattering for my body type.
I imagine the oversize style is easier for designer to scale up or down for multiple sizes, probaby why they are mostly like this.
On my body is a v neck more flattering. Like how her pattern look on her but not on my. The 3 patterns I heave are all a disappointment on my body. So no petit knit for me ( I’m not petit, maybe that’s the problem)
