Case in point, Down had to cancel a show the other week and due to this predicament chose to play a pop-up show with only two days' notice. The 2010s had a great amount of doom metal albums come out and while it probably had a few other genres bring out some good albums I definitely associate it with doom getting more expansive. There were a lot of blackened doom bands coming out and sludge was also building up a decent bit. Stand outs from that time for me are: "Despond" by Loss "Blood Eagle" by Conan "II" by Hell The Hell/Mizmor split "Foundations of Burden" by Pallbearer "All The Waters of The Earth Turn To Blood" and "Christs, Redeemers" by The Body "Heathen" by Thou But I like being into metal right now because there are tons of youtube channels, forums and streaming services to dig for music and people make uploads of albums and demos that a while back were not as accessible. Between that and the vast amount of reissues popping up now we're in a good spot to discover metal from now to the birth of it. One problem I find lately though is there is so much stuff to take in that I wound up giving up on finding new stuff occasionally to listen to classics again.

    That's the only Wormed release I own/have heard. Interesting topic as personally I kinda prefer my death metal albums to be around 30-35 minutes and I'm a sucker for a blistering ep. Nice Malignancy ep their albums are quite hard to come by over here although I've never looked on discogs for the ones I'm missing and I'm thinking some have had recent reissues. Do like Cognitive. I'm not familiar with most of these releases but ep's especially can easily pass you by or go under the radar. I was in medical school 2013 to 2017 and i used what was left of my student loan to buy albums. One point i’d like to add is Decibel Magazines contribution to the metal scene. I believe the Decibel Magazine tour started in 2012 and often would be headlined by the previous year’s album of the year artist. I don’t know if I would use the word renaissance I would go with resurgence. And it’s a bit difficult or different to not go by year to year, but just looking at the comparison of 2011 and 2012. The quality of albums in my opinion got better. I noticed there was rather large cross section of diversity between 2011 and 2012 in terms of genres. It almost seemed as Metal had a very popular year in 2012 and that carried over to 2013. So then you come to 2014 and it’s a lot like 2011 not to much mind blowing or quality albums in terms of numbers. But then 2015 killed it again soooo… I wondered in terms of just the music industry if there was any indication as to why 2012 was more notable or different than any other year. I came up with 2012 had the highest purchases of downloads or peak of music downloads sales and that number has been steadily declining since 2012.

    • @metalandbeersnob
      @metalandbeersnob 3 месяца назад

      I feel resurgence would be appropriate, I just feel it was the reimagining of a couple classic subgenres: mainly doom, death, and black metal for a new generation (us millennials lol). It's all personal perception but from where I stand early 2010s were among the worse years for metal. Ever since the 70s there were constantly new scenes and subgenres emerging. That ended in the late 2000s when the (in)famous deathcore & djent scenes emerged. Ever since we've been rehashing the old sounds

    Amazing. Draws a staggering parallels coincidences, because for me one of the most significant and favourite heavy bands are also Maiden, Cult Of Luna, Gorguts, Immolation, Mastodon, Edge Of Sanity, Ozzy-era Sabbath. “Metropolis” has fascinated my imagination for a long time, but “The Beyond” and “Somewhere” completely blew my mind when I heard it in 2006. Dozer's “Through The Eyes Of Heathens” first stoner album I've bought.

      Damn some really cool overlaps between you and I! If I expanded to a top 50 I guarantee you that Edge of Sanity would be in there. I absolutely love Purgatory Afterglow! I completely back those Cult of Luna albums you mentioned too! I almost showed Salvation as well

      Full credit to Jim over at Eihwaz Recordings for that anecdote. When he said it, it made me realize that seldom to I fully dive into every release by a band and I typically end up being choosy and more focused on the album. The bands on this list are some of the exceptions to this rule. Thanks for watching Count!

    Another band i would add is Early Graves. I knew about them when they opened for Skeletonwitch on their ‘Forever Abomination’ Fall 2012 tour. Early Graves have a hint of black metal in their style if hardcore. Also their last vocalist kinda sounded like Tomas Lindberg. Also check out Wolvhammer, their 2014 album ‘Clawing Into Black Sun’ is some killer sludgy black metal.

    Interesting is that Entombed was influenced by Hardcore Punk. So much important band. Key word in this video can be also Power Violence.

      Funny how that works, musical influence is all a circle sometimes! Yes, honestly the grindcore influence I feel like I hear in these albums could easily be chalked up to power violence as well. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    I didnt think about it until watching your video but you are totally right, all these bands have stopped making music. It really was a little snapshot in time there for these groups, I would throw in All Pigs Must Die into the mini-genre.

      Yeah man, I realized while talking about Gaza turning into Cult Leader. And if they’re not officially defunct, like Nails, they’re surely not the most prolific band around. They’re is something to be said about this modern hardcore stuff that still comes across very metallic at times with bands like The End, Jesus Piece, and Gulch 🤷‍♂️. Good call on All Pigs Must Die, great vicious band!

    It is curious that in Russia has a quite distinguished local murky hardcore community, which draw their inspiration from bands like Oathbreaker, Nails, Skinfather. Convince - «Russian Jawbreaker» brilliant crusty hardcore with death'n'roll flavour, Vólan band, Tarpan with death metal-esque riffs.

Currently, concerts of local hardcore and metal bands are also held here, despite the fact that the government is committing unfair actions towards Ukraine, as you know. And for open protest, ordinary people face serious criminal penalties... I stopped going to gigs, but still enjoyed my favorite music. New High On Fire record is bloody brilliant from start to finish.
