  • I am back at it with over analyzing niche styles of metal music! For today's iteration, I'm focusing on an era of hardcore from the late 2000s and early 2010s that focused on pairing blistering hardcore with extreme metal elements such as an HM-2 guitar tone, a black metal atmosphere, or sludge metal riffs. Join me as I dive into my favorite picks from this style and attempt to outline the history of extreme hardcore. From its originators all the way to the bands that are still playing in this style today, I try to include it all. Of course, I'm missing some stuff or maybe I am off base entirely with this video. Don't be shy, let me know in the comments!
    As always, I don't own any of the music featured in this video; all rights go to these amazing artists. Please check them out, as they are all listed below!

      Thanks for watching man! Agreed about Wolverine Blues; such a fun album. I even love the over the top vocal performance! Have you heard Converge’s EP where they covered the title track 3 separate times? A worthy release indeed

    I absolutely love this subgenre! It takes me back to when i was in highschool (2010-2014) during the peak of this sound. Bushcraft by Baptists is another staple.

      Dude thanks for watching and for the comment! A nostalgic sound for me too. I was in early college during a lot of these albums and I definitely enjoyed trudging around campus with these albums on. Bushcraft will be a new one for me, thanks for the recommendation and excited to check it out!

    Another band i would add is Early Graves. I knew about them when they opened for Skeletonwitch on their ‘Forever Abomination’ Fall 2012 tour. Early Graves have a hint of black metal in their style if hardcore. Also their last vocalist kinda sounded like Tomas Lindberg. Also check out Wolvhammer, their 2014 album ‘Clawing Into Black Sun’ is some killer sludgy black metal.

    Interesting is that Entombed was influenced by Hardcore Punk.
    So much important band.
    Key word in this video can be also Power Violence.

      Funny how that works, musical influence is all a circle sometimes! Yes, honestly the grindcore influence I feel like I hear in these albums could easily be chalked up to power violence as well. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    The mighty Cursed (RIP) nailed it perfectly, honestly still one of my favourite bands, all albums were solid but due to the impact their debut had on me.when it was released that "One" is my personal favourite. A perfect album. Worth mentioning "Parasitic Skies" by the Swarm here, one of Colohans previous bands. Glad you also mentioned Cult Leader because they're one of my current favourites, "Nothing For Us Here" is absolutely crushing. A couple mentions that come to mind to add from me - The Power and the Glory, their album "Call Me Armageddon" is an absolute beast. Also His Hero is Gone, All Pigs Must Die, Grieved, Starkweather (Croatoan was in this genre I think).

      Thanks for watching and for all the recommendations in the comment. I gotta check out Grieved, Starkweather, and definitely the Swarm. I didn’t realize they had that Cursed connection. Also man, I actually own the Power & the Glory album and totally blanked on it being an option. Thanks for the reminder to pull it out for a spin🍻

    I didnt think about it until watching your video but you are totally right, all these bands have stopped making music. It really was a little snapshot in time there for these groups, I would throw in All Pigs Must Die into the mini-genre.

      @metalandbeersnob  2 месяца назад

      Yeah man, I realized while talking about Gaza turning into Cult Leader. And if they’re not officially defunct, like Nails, they’re surely not the most prolific band around. They’re is something to be said about this modern hardcore stuff that still comes across very metallic at times with bands like The End, Jesus Piece, and Gulch 🤷‍♂️. Good call on All Pigs Must Die, great vicious band!

    Thank you for such a comprehensive overview of this magnificent genre. Trap Them were one of the most innovative bands of the 21st century. This music helps you survive when you are in complete poverty, you feel disoriented, psychologically oppressed and there is not the slightest hope for the future. For my part, I would like to recommend some amazing records
    Bathe - «A Field Guide To Dead Birds».
    «Peste» by Italian band Hierophant, and Canadian metal stalwarts Saccage, played with overwhelming intensity.

      Hey man thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video. It sounds like this music has been there for you in difficult situations. I’m glad Trap Them was able to be cathartic for you too. I agree about them being innovative, they really made the sound as bleak as possible. Also all those recommendations are new for me, thanks for giving me some extra stuff to digest!

    It is curious that in Russia has a quite distinguished local murky hardcore community, which draw their inspiration from bands like Oathbreaker, Nails, Skinfather.
    Convince - «Russian Jawbreaker» brilliant crusty hardcore with death'n'roll flavour, Vólan band, Tarpan with death metal-esque riffs.

    • @metalandbeersnob
      @metalandbeersnob  2 месяца назад +1

      And another recommendation! Cheers man, keep them coming if you got them 🍻. May I ask, are you still in Russia currently?

    • @FELTSZ
      @FELTSZ 2 месяца назад

      @@metalandbeersnob Yes, I have been in Russia for 28 of the 30 years of my life. Currently, concerts of local hardcore and metal bands are also held here, despite the fact that the government is committing unfair actions towards Ukraine, as you know.
      And for open protest, ordinary people face serious criminal penalties... I stopped going to gigs, but still enjoyed my favorite music.
      New High On Fire record is bloody brilliant from start to finish.
