    You don’t need the guide pin if you’re using a template because you’re using a guide bushing. Also, watch your directions when running around your template. Back and forth scrubbing isn’t safe.

    I have an older long mill version. The laser attachment is nice. I already have co2 laser. So I don't think I will upgrade. And I'm happy with my MK1. I did add linear rails right after I built it. For me it's a fine machine. I don't use it 8 hours a day. I do use it for my business in conjunction withe my 3d printers, co2 laser, standard electric and hand tools. I'm glad I bought it. That was many years ago. It is nice to see improvement on the design.

      There is still a lot skill required in designing, programming, cut speeds. Don't be fooled into thinking running a CNC is easy. I still use hand tools, and standard electric tools for my wood working, but a CNC has been nice on occasion, and if you need to replicate certain things faster for a business this really is agood tool. I'm older, but never stop trying to learn how to use new tools, and add them to my shop. I will never stop learning. It keeps the brain young. But that is just me. I can see no using any new tools also and becoming a total master at doing things 1 way. And using the brain the learn new ways of doing thing I don't think is lazy. Just to be fair here. I have learned lazer cutting, building,3d printing, screen printing anything that can solve what I am trying to invent or make.

    Cheasy mill tbh, after messing around with CnCs in school and the ones my friends have like the onefinity and the one i built from 3D printed parts.. Id rather build if its less than 6k. Anything over 6k might as well spend a little more for a more ridged machine from a good company.

    I was looking at the machine a couple years ago and had my mind set, but as I was studying more about CNC, I learned one of the biggest factors between Hobbyist Machines and Commercial machines is rigidity. I ended up saving up a tad more and went with the Onefinity, also because at the time I could only find videos about Long Mill being put out from 1 user, good to see more people buying the machine and producing content. Though you have to build it from scratch I think that assists in learning how the machine functions and sure comes in handy when troubleshooting issues because none of these hobby machines come without issues :)

      Hi there and thanks for commenting. I was dead set on a Shapeoko a couple years ago and never even heard about this machine. When my wood mentor ask me to start looking for a machine, I found tons of videos on the long mill. I'm glad I waited to get one. We loved the fact we could customize the table and make our own. You are absolutely right about understanding the machine since we built it from scratch. There was a lot of good that came from that. It was also a pain in the butt sometimes too since CNCs were new to us. Could you tell me your thoughts on the Onefinity machine?

    • @phrozen4life

      @@jkwwoodworks I went with OF primarily because They have the option of the Rolling Stand & Frame. I am limited on my shop space and needed a way to get the space back when not using it. Though it takes 2 people to lift, lock the legs and roll away, it is really convenient way of storing it when not in use. The other thing that I like is the ability to start out at the basic and upgrade packages allow you to move from the Build Botics with ridged Axis on 3 different sizes up to a much more ridged X-Axis, High end Stepper motors and Masso Controller and Screen putting you the closest to commercial as possible. There is also a large amount of support for the machine, and They cater to 3rd Parties allowing for the Lasers to be mounted to any of their spindle mounts, offering 2 different sizes of mounts so when Ready you can swap out the Makita Router and move on to an actual spindle for the machine etc. Allot of room to grow with Solid tubular steel axis's. I like that as most of my projects consist of working with expensive Hardwood. Glad to hear the Long Mill is getting a following though, it just wasn't there a couple years ago, and if Price were my biggest objective and getting the best possible for the 2K Mark I totally agree the Longmill fits that bill.

      @jkwwoodworks 19 дней назад

      @phrozen4life thanks for your reply. That makes a lot of sense. I know there are a ton of different machines on the market and I am glad you found one that fits your needs. I think the best thing about this community is we are all trying to help each other. I appreciate you letting everything else know about the Onefinity. It sounds like a solid machine that may be better for someone if shop space is their biggest obstacle.

    Your video is 8 month# old, but Amazon just put it on sale again for $159 in May of 24. I grabbed it, and it just showed up. Unfortunately there was a big ding right on the front edge of the table that messed up the laminate surface interfering with the function of the table. There was another ding in the edge of the table that did not interfere with function. Other RUclips videos have pointed out that this is a common problem, which is disappointing. I was just getting my confidence back in Skill Tools, but I was highly disappointed that this router table was damaged with multiple dings right our of the box, and getting it packed back up is nearly impossible as it is packed like an origami jigsaw puzzle. Pay attention to how all that cardboard is folded, because there’s a good chance you’ll have to pack it back up and send it back. Apparently Quality Control is still lacking at Skill.

      @@jkwwoodworks Thanks! Amazon is sending me a replacement. I really want to like this tool. I bought the Skill table saw, and couldn’t love it more. Skill knocked it out of the park with that saw, and at about half price of other job site saws, and everything I’ve seen indicates the router table will do a good job on most routing jobs, but not so much as a jointer, but I don’t intend to use it for that. Was hoping to build some simple cabinets for my garage with raised panel doors. Since they’ll be in the garage, the project will be a good opportunity to hone my skill (pun intended) with too much worry of screwing them up.

      Thanks for reaching out and watching! The reason I cut the mallet part in half and glued them together was to get a thicker and wider board length. The stock that i had was not wide, and the mallet portion would be narrow. By cutting and gluing the way I did, I was able to control the thickness of the mallet itself. I would guess that it does not make it stronger.

    TBH The straight parallel to the edge cut should be just as easy with the piece that comes with the router - I don't see any value in the attachment if that is all it does - just more clutter. I was also disappointed in the cut - seemed to be quite furry on the edges, is your bit a bit too dull? It also looked like there may be a potential for a bushing fitting in the attachment - is that the case?

    • @jkwwoodworks

      You are absolutely right. It is another "thing" that you have laying around. We believe it does have some value since some routers do not come with extra attachments. It also can help guide around round edges, and we have seen others use this tool to make perfect circles. This tool is not for everyone. However, it was a great addition to our shop, especially since at the time, we did not have a router table. You can add a bushing with the router base. In the video, we discuss making unique projects. Projects that aren't common and one of kind. Using patterns to trace designs is something this router table allows you to do without breaking your budget. We have tried to do this with a jig saw with some success. However, we get better results with the router table especially when we are using patterns with curves. The jig saw leaves jagged edges where the router leaves smooth edges. Hopefully this answers your question. Thank you for reaching out.

I may remove the router tomorrow and see if it’s possible to loosen them and make some really thin washers to shim it upwards a tad. If that isn’t feasible I may just try to fasten a thin sheet of acrylic to make it flush. It could make a great gift for someone. Let us know what you would like to see us make next. Thank you again for your comment. We love to hear from viewers!

    I''ve got the branding iron that one heats with an external source ( I use a propane torch) and it took quite awhile to master it. You're right, practice is the key. I like mine a lot now because I'm leaving my mark.

      @jkwwoodworks 9 месяцев назад

      It is very nice to leave your own mark on your work. If I could do it all over again, I would probably get a simple iron and propane torch. It would be simpler and leave a better mark then the electric iron.

      No sir, but it's comparable to the harbor freight price. The router is better quality than the router available at harbor freight.

    Great board. Thanks for talking us through the process. I’m planning on making my first wood/epoxy chessboard soon. Two questions: I must have missed it but when did you put the hdpe on the bottom and how did you attach it.? Wouldn’t it be easier to build a solid mold from melamine covered with epoxy proof tape? Thanks

    • @jkwwoodworks
      @jkwwoodworks Год назад

      Thanks for watching the video and reaching out. Before we poured the epoxy, we set the chess board on the HDPE board. You could build a mold and use Tyvek tape. Tyvek tape is expensive but very easy to use. HDPE isn't very expensive. We were able to pick up a couple 1 x 1 foot squares for about $15. Ultimately, the best solution is not to spill or have any epoxy leaks. However, in our experience, epoxy is messy to work with. We hope you have success making your chess board. Let us know how it worked out.
