  • This video is to clarify some confusion that was brought up by viewers. It is in regards to the centering of the base plate. This is a short video showing how MilesCraft recommends you setting the base plate. Sorry for any confusion that I caused.

    I could never get mine centered correctly as my centering tool was slightly bent ;-(

    I still think you aren't using the centering tool properly. You should secure it in the appropriate chuck just like it was a bit. Then mount the base plate, but leave the screws loose; you will see there's a little wiggle room in the base. Now slowly plunge the router until the new baseplate touches the CONE part of the alignment tool. That will make the new baseplate automatically align with the exact center of the bit shaft. Now tighten the base screws and you'll be good to go. The reason to do this is if the base isn't centered exactly, then if you ride the edge of the baseplate against the jig, the distance will be slightly off and the groove you cut will have wiggles and deflections in it. It isn't as important if you use the straight edge fitting, but if you use other styles of guides it could make a significant difference.
