  • This is our second Epoxy Chess Board that we made. Its double sided so you can play on a traditional color chess board or on the Dragon Breath Epoxy side. We used pallet wood, walnut, plywood, pine and epoxy to make this project. It is very easy to make and looks great. We plan on making build plans for this in the future. Let us know if you enjoyed this build and want to see more like this. Our finished products can be viewed at jkwwoodworks.com. Thanks for watching.

Great board. Thanks for talking us through the process. I’m planning on making my first wood/epoxy chessboard soon. Two questions: I must have missed it but when did you put the hdpe on the bottom and how did you attach it.? Wouldn’t it be easier to build a solid mold from melamine covered with epoxy proof tape? Thanks

Thanks for watching the video and reaching out. Before we poured the epoxy, we set the chess board on the HDPE board. You could build a mold and use Tyvek tape. Tyvek tape is expensive but very easy to use. HDPE isn't very expensive. We were able to pick up a couple 1 x 1 foot squares for about $15. Ultimately, the best solution is not to spill or have any epoxy leaks. However, in our experience, epoxy is messy to work with. We hope you have success making your chess board. Let us know how it worked out.
