That was fun. And significant that you as an eight year old wrote yourself as a character who was ten years old. I've written a fair bit over the years for kids and YA. I don't know if you are aware of this but kids and younger teens like to read books about kids two years older than themselves. There's something that makes it sound mature to them but still accessible. You nailed from the get go. 😎

Hi Aaron, good news about the book. I'm an old guy in Australia (probably your Grandad's era) and used to write a lot, some stuff published over the years. I'm always happy to support and encourage up and coming authors, so I got your book. Getting those words from Ruocchio are a real blast. Congratulations.

I read Hyperion a few months ago and am currently about half way into Fall of Hyperion. I thought the setup for Hyperion was clumsy writing and I only kept with it because I'd had so many people recommend it. I thought it was forced and not at all organic in the way a group of people relate to each other. Luckily it improved once I got into the individual stories. I think it took four stories before they started to show a common thread and the book started to make sense as a whole for me. The middle of the book was worth the read. The ending scene with that song was just plain stupid and unworthy of respect. I'm finding Fall of Hyperion to be much better, and (so far) probably worth calling it a classic. The writing is better, the structure is better, the themes are more complex and mysterious but written so as to draw me in instead of making me wonder "how much longer?" This book is pulling #1 out of the fire a bit.

I just read Aaron M. Payne's book, "Falling into Oblivion: Tendrils of Chrome". It was amazing.

I don't think it is a masterpiece, but I really liked most of it. Brawne's story was the weirdest, because he clearly can't wirte women that well and I feel like he did not like her that much, but most of his love for romanticism and Keats was inserted in her portion of the book, which was interesting, at least. Still very engaging. 4/5 stars for me.

Can we all agree book Lex is awful though? 😅 so whiny!!!

EOS is the better series. The writing, character work and world building was much stronger then RR. Sun Eater as a whole is the much better series

Yeah Animorphs had me hooked when I was a kid. running back and forth from the librarh. I read every single book. Including the Chronicle spinoffs.

I read Annihilation last week and I did enjoy it. I also watched the movie last Sunday as I had watched it a long time ago but couldn’t remember anything about it. The movie is soooo bad though. The book is 10x better. Hyperion is one of my favorite books (but it’s not spooky though)

The Escher Man is such a great book! Highly recommend it to anyone who likes/loves cyberpunk.

The fourth book is the best IMO and it’s the book that is left completely out of the movie adaptation

Sitting here wondering why I’m even watching a video on what books to read during spooky season when I know I don’t have time to read anyway. From mid September on we’re too busy setting up a Halloween event the whole town plus outlying towns come to at our place. I’m only in here to have a cup of coffee before heading back out to work on it again. It takes FOREVER to set everything up and run extension cords that must be buried and set up a ton of lighting. We are always working right up to the night of to get everything set up and put out. Especially all the various animatronics that can’t be out in bad weather. I’m going to have to live vicariously through you guys who can read good books all cozy in the house up to Halloween night. I do like the idea of the different season spooky books because I might have time then! 😂. Good suggestion for those of us for whom this is our busy season.

I didn't know that Hyperion was spooky! I requested it a month or so ago at my library, and it looks like I will be getting it in the next week or so! It looks like it will be here just in time for spooky season! I also I am going to read Salem's Lot, Dracula, and The Haunting of Hill House.

Small spaces and the rest of the quartet are so good, I love how camp and crazy you can go with middle grade horror

A big book on DNS scares me so much. Reading The Cipher by Kathe Koja; after a couple of pages I can tell it’s a great recommendation for you.
