Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion are my favorite sci fi novels, i also see them as one. Mysecond is Childhood's End and Dune is my third. Great discussion.
Man, Hyperion is such a masterpiece that the battle is unfair. Book 2 is pretty good as well, but after that it kind of starts falling apart. Get to Dune book 4 vs. Hyperion book 4 and the tables have turned.
Awesome idea Aaron. ❤️ I love these book battles, and this one felt like two super heavyweights facing off in a fair fight (unlike Joe vs GRRM 😜). Two of my favourite books ever, neck & neck. Love it. 😀
@@BiblioTheory I could imagine some that’re very clearly comparable, like The Stand vs Swan Song, or maybe Lies of Locke Lamorra vs Name of the Wind. 🤔
No one does intro clips better that you. As a diehard dune fan I have thoroughly been convinced to read hyperion. Gotta get through Red Rising, then the breakins, then the Sun Eater Saga, then ...
The man, the myth 😂 isn't it amazing the way people make up stuff to suit their own narrative!! Makes me think of the Desiderata by Max E, u continue to speak your truth quietly and clearly Mike 😎
I mean yeah, of course. The Shrike is something that can control time, while Kwisatz Haderach has the power to understand it. They have different narrative purposes, one being direct power while another more subtle.
I don't understand looking at these first two books of series and comparing them, when they're not meant to stand alone. At the end of Dune, you might never realize that Paul becoming who he became was a BAD thing ultimately, and the first couple books are a warning against messianic figures. And the end of Hyperion... you have absolutely no idea what's actually going on yet, even if you think you do. And reading the whole thing through Fall ended up spiritually impacting me, and left me feeling light and calm for weeks after. Another messianic figure, but a positive outcome, kind of opposite outlooks. Would you guys ever do one on the whole series?
People in here acting as if two legends cannot coexist. Also interesting that Dune fans tend so say Hyperion is also cool, while Hyperion fans tend to feel the need to dunk on Dune.
buddy can you do me a favor and REMOVE THE FUCKING MUSIC FROM THE BACKGROUND P L E A S E it's nearly impossible to pay attention to the two of you with THAT droning in the subtle recesses of the astral walls.
4 of the Hyperion books are better than the Dune series imo. It’s deep as hell and most people don’t understand it. It’s almost a religious text on human spirit, mixed with AI, quantum mechanics, and free will vs determinism. Terminator meets the matrix but at the cosmic scale. The ultimate intelligence is about constructing the algorithm for human decision making and causality. While the future of humans sent back the shrike to defend the messenger that brings forth the message that leads to human evolution. Probably the deepest book I’ve ever read, other than academic philosophy. It was about ascending human consciousness to view time and space in its completeness. That was done through love. Even the end, Aenea was to perish, but Raul could also be with her in the time he was designated to have with her. He could relive the moments with her. It’s a bit sad but also hopeful about our existence.

Dune got me into science fiction.
Hyperion took me to the stars.
I wish there was a Hyperion movie like they did for Dune. A trilogy

I loved this video both for the very high quality content and the fantastic editing work you did. Watched from start to finish. Kudos!

You sir have just a few books ahead of you haha 😅
I love the video concept. Great discussion and I can't wait to see what you put toe to toe next.
Thanks man! Next two are pretty popular books as well 😅
Quinn’s so cool, you’re cool, this was just great.
Oh no way, we got Quinn ?
Still waiting for @QuinnsIdeas to talk about Endymion, which I deam to be the better part of the Cantos... :D
I think I know Quinn from ASOIAF if I remember correctly

I found dune highly overrated, hyperion was much more enjoyable.

I agree! I'm going to use music way more sparingly in future videos!
Two excellent books with meh sequels
cant beat Dune sorry.

@@camb546 there's plenty of more complex works than Dune but none that had the same impact sorry.

@@camb546 Hyperion does have the advantage of the writer actually finishing the series.
Actually Dune Messiah is meh/slightly positive where Hyperion sequel is unreadable
