Nicely filmed and narrated, also like your choice of music. Enjoyable watch👍
I have recently come back to the hobby after a long lay off. Your channel came up as a suggestion after I had subscribed to a few others. I will be watching all your videos Be good to see it develop. I actually used to live in Horsehay, Baylam Close, not far from the Steam Railway. I will be watching with lots of interest. Well done.
That viaduct is brill. Who makes it?
@@saltspringrailway3683 it's two of the wills kits combined. Full video on the channel!
Can l ask where you got your 08 shunter figure from ?
@@michaelwhite8031 bloody good question. I believe it's a bachmann driver with the arm cut off and repositioned and the legs trimmed to fit
Many thanks. I have just subscribed. @HorsehayRailwayModeller
This was my first Fareham Railex, it was a really impressive show wasn't it! Much bigger than I was expecting. I took a class 33 along for Sam of Emperors Path to weather, which worked out very well, and had some really interesting chats to some of the people running the layouts and stands. You've presented a very good overview of the show, and I echo others comments about the sound, much better than a load of hubbub!
You from telford mate ? would be good to know someone in telford in case you need advice etc
Originally and the layout is very vaguely based there but I know live elsewhere
Finally getting some time to watch this video David. Never change the intro it's genuinely brilliant 👍 I appreciate the views without the background chatter which so often ruin vlogs like this... Re. The house. Have yog thought about just hiring a hall and charging entry fees Pendon style... Youll get a lot more room 😂😂😂 I think it may have been me mention your channel on the podcast, or at least i was one of many to mention you. Big love for Horsehay 🐴
Glad you enjoyed the video, might start charging entry to the shed when I get one 😂
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller sign me up mate 👍
Hi, great video. Where did you get the viaduct from it looks fantastic
Hi mate, sorry I missed this comment. It's two wills kits combined. Full video on the channel
Houses would be much better designed by model railway enthusiasts, then there would be no bloody joists in the way. 😉
I love your choice of music. It's much better than the conversations usually heard on exhibition videos. Pete
Very nice purchases, looked a good exhibition 👍
Hi, I was there too and some lovely layouts with friendly exhibitors. Arun Quay was a standout for me and I spent a long time chatting about the building scratch builds. There was a lovely GWR layout which I watched for ages too. Cheers.
@@davidhinks8384 I really did like the display next to Arun Quay with how things were made. Will be sure to have more of a chat with the owner next time I see the layout
Just back from the Newcastle and District MRC exhibition where there were excellent layouts, including Arun Quay which features briefly in your video. I spent rather less than you, but did weaken and buy a fairly recently published book by Pete Goss on Modelling Buildings and a few other extravagances - you can't just walk past a Squires stand can you ? Thanks for the video and beautiful music, and best wishes.
@@georgeclements2742 glad you enjoyed the video, didn't get as much footage as I would have liked of Arun Quay it really is a beautiful layout and I hope to see it again in the circuit at some point
cool video, thank you David
Thank you for replacing the audio. That's the one thing that puts me off viewing entire layout videos. All the nonsense chat around that's just noise. So thank you.
@@C-MAGs there's nothing worse than a vodeo of a beautiful layout with audio of a group of blokes talking waffle over it
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller usually waffle including what they had for lunch 😂
Lovely video. That was my first exhibition in a long time as well and I had a great time. Are you planning on attending the SHMRC exhibition in Portsmouth next weekend?
@@VictoryWorks I wasn't planning on it as I'm trying to save cash and can't trust myself not to find a loco or two 😅. I may well still go though.
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller Haha! The "gathering" side of the hobby is very addictive.. just one more loco wouldn't hurt.. would it? 😬
The actual 31s were heavier than a Deltic.
superp model railway, i am currently building a model railway, i have a viaduct like yours built from the wills viaduct kit, but what done was add 2 wills stone sheets to the piers making the viaduct much taller i am very pleased with the result.
I had a few for haulage out of Paddington in the early 80's.
Hi David, I've just come across your channel & spent the last hour (maybe two) watching your previous videos. I have to say your scenery & general modelling skills are superb !! Very well done Sir. I've enjoyed the scenery construction & especially the making of the Post Office and shop. I'll definitely be following your layout progress, keep up the excellent work. All the best....Andy
@@Andy-SharlstonEastgate Thank you very much, I'm always very glad to hear people enjoy watching. I will try and continue to up my quality as I go on
Nice video. I have 31128 with the headlights instead of head codes. Definitely another great Accurascale model. I think I may be the only one who has one of these running on DC because quite frankly I can’t afford it😂
Hello David, I've just come across your channel. I have to say your scenes really do look very good, and I did like your commentry explaining how you went about building up those scenes. I'm not sure if you have done it yet, but a tour round your layout would be most welcome. Subbed to your channel, and look forward to followinjg your progress with the layout. @@stretchedits thank you very much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Next time I visit my parents I'll be sure to film a track pal and layout tour video.
Wow your viaduct scene looks amazing.

Yet again another professional video from you and not much waffle on the unboxing of the BOX 👍 I’m impressed with the locomotive’s quality and details. Thank you David
@@carllawton9520 glad you enjoyed the video. I just try and make videos I would enjoy watching... I tend to skip the longer unboxing videos
Another excellent model by A/scale
HRM... Nice easy to watch video, Accurascales Brush 2 is a great model, I have one that's sound fitted, No.31432, for our NW themed layout as this loco worked the club trains to Manchester amongst other duties. The 3D printed crew are advertised by Accurascale as press fit into the cab seats, the driver was, but the second man with leg up on the desk needed a spot of black tack up his backside. Impressed with your channel so Subscribed. All the best Steve.
@@stevieb9699 thanks very much for watching and subscribing. I hadn't realised they were press fit and tend to use black tack or super glue
Ive got hornby detailed versions rescued from mazac, whether or not they were prototypical ill probably run them around 😂😂 Great video as usual mate, and the tunnel scene really looks brilliant.
@@_RandomPea hey, so long as it moves and looks good that's all that matters
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller can't believe you spank £300 on a loco and then dive into weathering! Looks great... 🎨 I'd be too scared I'd cock it up 😂
@@_RandomPea was kicking myself for not weathering my 37 and figured at the end of the day I can allways strip the paint and start again 🤷♂️
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller very brave mate. I did a few practice locos before I started the shelf. Once I've a few more bits finished I'll be able to have more space for practicing with my airbrush again.
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller what do you use to strip it? I did have a Hornby 31 that I tried to strip back someone's dodgy paint attempt from but it went right back to plastic, ended up getting new body from eBay but can't complain, 2 super detaileds for less than £60 I think that was... 2 years back now... Wow 😳
I have 31402 sound fitted. These 31s look and run wonderfully. Nice review, David.
Thanks mate!
such a lovely model! I cant wait to see their other livery options for it, but it sounds phenomenal!
Thanks for watching! yeah they have a few good looking liveries but if its anything like the 37 im sure there will be more in the pipeline
Appologies for this video being in 1080p rather than 4k. I filmed parts on my new phone and didn't remember to change it to 4k. Future videos will be back in 4k as normal.
Just a little note the crew in that guise drove the green era locos, You needed the crew that Accurascale advertise as deltic crew, I drove these in the seventies and crew uniform had changed.
Thank you very much, I think I'll leave these in for now as you can hardly see them but in future i'll use the more modern uniforms, i thought the other uniform accurascale offer for the 31 looked a bit too modern but hadn't thought of looking at their other loco crews.
@HorsehayRailwayModeller No problem take care.
I hope this helps... I never saw a 31 in Plymouth.or Cornwall myself, but they were regulars on the Barnstaple route. And I clearly remember riding begun one on a train from Paignton in approx 1980. The hornby one was superb. Let's hope this and other recent locos don't start to rot like many other manufacturers have found with Chinese products...not limited to hornby
Definitely sounds like a Jamie Goodman sound file, all coughie and spluttery. I do like it, the head code boxes look great and the side detail is we’ll pick out. Just shows, mazak apart, how good the old Hornby version was though. Not massive difference, the Bachmann one is also a great looker👍
@@Shelfandtabletoplayouts00gauge I'm really impressed with it all. I think the main difference between this and older models are the finer details and running characteristics. The older models definitely still hold up though.
Very nice video. I took up landscape painting thanks to the late, great Bob Ross. I found much of what I had learned I could use on my railway if I used acrylics instead of oils. The wet on wet technique is a good one; like Bob used to say, 'We don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents!' Everyone should give it a go, Thanks for the video - and great music too.
very interesting as usual its nice to realise we all make mistakes the wiring is almost less than DC Ha Ha
That’s some beautiful scenic work.
Excuse my language... Bloody fantastic... And the class 31 is decent to 😂 🎉
Hi David I have just came across this. Lovely looking 33, really looks the business 👍🏻 Please could you let me know who’s sound file you chose? It does sound very good, nice Sulzer chugging going on ! However, I didn’t notice any brake sounds.
@@Cromptonman I'll have to check my invoices but it was purchased from roads and rails. I think there may be a brake on a function key, I'll have a look and get back to you
Thanks, I would really appreciate it if you could find out. The 33 is a very special loco to me and I’m really struggling to find ‘The sound’ that hits the mark! Yours does come close though!
@@Cromptonman according to my excel file it's Jamie goodman sound. Can't see a break function listed but it might come on at the correct slowing down speed
Thanks David, very much appreciated 👍🏻 I think the overall sound is good enough to not worry about the brakes 🙂
Very good!. I do like the forward planning you have presented with your interconnects and wiring concepts. Organized, neat and tidy. I know MERG is interested in a module interconnect which is something they do not have in their Kit Locker at the moment. I will be sharing your PCB concept for sure and it may even get some traction. To that end I have laid out my own PCB with the basic concepts you have shown and once it arrives along with the rest of the bits and bobs I will be showing it to MERG as a proposed offering (or something to turn into one)..
@@rfidsig I can send over the gerbers if needed!
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller I appreciate the offer but not necessary at this time. I have my PCB's manufactured and currently 'in transit' from JLCPCB and once it is proven I will do a show and tell on the MERG discussion forum. These types of things while simple enough are a great tool for modular layouts (clubs or otherwise). I think MERG is a good resource for this and many similar things. I would encourage anyone with an interest in applying electronics to model railways to check them out (regardless of skill level or background). Full disclosure: I am a member of MERG and both the Arduino special interest group and the RFID special interest group within MERG
Excellent wiring! Fellow MERG member accross the pond in Texas building 00. Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment.... I Like your point motor mounts. Did you 3d print your mounts? Any chance of sharing the stl file or link?
@@pwilliamssa the mounts are 3d prints bought direct from merg. I'm sure if you message the right person in the forum someone will have the files
A lot of interesting elements there David. I'm about to start helping my Dad with his new layout. I'm also a bit of an electronics nerd and will be doing a similar thing, although I'm going custom ESP microprocessors on custom boards with a simple CanBus loop. For power I'm going 24v AC over all tracks; engines/loco's will also have ESP32's onboard with brushless motors and ESC's; they will also have small LiPo cells that charge from the 24v AC rails; this means I don't have to run power through points etc, so will make life easier. I like the block section detection method using CT clamps and sensitive ADC's, although not sure how that will maintain detection for rolling stock that does not pull any current...? the plan is to automate the entire layout using NodeRed to under pin the logic and sequencing whilst giving Dad some manu controls and one button routines where sensible. Well done on the wiring, and having seen yours, I'm probably going to go with a mini-module at each location that needs something; it'll be a lot of ESP chips but they are very cheap and boards from PCB Way are also very cheap. This way I'm only running four wires around the layout; CanH CanL and the 24v AC two wires.
Dad's working in 'O' gauge so more room inside locos/engines for more electronics; We'll have wheel slip detection interacting with the ESC, many many lights 🤣 and as I'm using the ESP32's sound driven centrally is also on the cards... lol
@@dougle03 holy s**t this sounds amazing! If only I had the time and money to pull that all off. You had me confused with how you were going to fit an ESP32 let alone an Esc and lipo all In a model but in O gauge that sounds very doable. In fairness other than the cost of o gauge itself I think with esp32s's bought in bulk this may well work out cheaper than dcc and Canbus! At the moment I'm considering a few arduino and raspberry pi integrations with my bus but hadn't thought of using ESPs. I'm sure I've got a couple ESPs in a box somewhere that I'll have a play with next time I go and visit my parents loft.
@@dougle03 as for rolling stock detection the easiest solution I'm planning on using is adding led lighting to coaches and resistors to goods wagon axles
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller Resistors would work to draw current for detection, albeit a little inefficient on power. I'm mulling over using hall effect sensors (Since we'll have more than enough ADC's in the ESP32's under each board) for static detection, but that would still require stateful logic to retain occupation history; so lots to think about.
@@HorsehayRailwayModeller To be fair, the costs will be lower than DCC ect, as I'm sure you've discovered, DCC and related 'modeling' electronics can mount up. The Loco's/engines will be 2.4ghz wifi control, whilst anything fixed will be wired (Just as it should be) lol I can get ESP's for pennies and hall sensors are currently 10 for 62p lol - Bringing it all together will be the challenge, but I really wanted to move away from the problems of dirty track where the rails are the control method. I could go entirely wireless meaning the only under board wiring is only the 24vac, but I'll stick to the respected standard of: if it moves=wireless, if it's static=wired...
Would absolutely love some MERG demos please
@@gavinbrown5973 I'll have to find out what I can get away with without giving away the members secrets! I'm sure some demos would be doable if I don't upload schematics of the pcbs
try laisdcc decoders.
@@lesatkins42 yeah I've got a few in some of my locos and they've been great. Just looking at esu lokpilot as I have an esu Lokprogrammer for my sound locos and like the uncouple shuffle for kadees
