Over the many years of cinema going, there have been a handful of films whose endings have proved resonant…Chinatown, Vertigo and In the mood for love. Every time I watch In the mood, the climactic scene has me in a heap. Keep up the terrific work Peter your posts are pure, unalloyed joy.

A very detailed analysis of a wonderful movie. An absolute classic....as rightly mentioned, it was far ahead of its time (1987). Mohanlal was at the height of his career, riding on the success of Namukku Parrkan Munthiri Thoppukal just the previous year (1986), also by Padmarajan. The climax is wonderfully shot- probably the best climax ever. The maturity of Clara shines through her love for Jayakrishnan. Wonderful music by Johnson Master, beautifully shot in Trichur. Clara lives for ever! A movie nonpareil.

Lovely work!! It's interesting to compare this to Koodevide(1983). The alpha male archetype in it by not willing to learn or understand just destroys everything by the end while here he grows into something better by being accepting.

Some of the finer details what you have ferreted out from the seemingly mundane i have missed discerning even after multiple viewing across different parts of my life (as a child,as a teenager and now as a middle aged man). Would kindly request you to make a video feature on the master and my personal favourite director in Malayalam @ Padmarajan sir. Would also highly recommend watching "Amarathum gamaya" to watch Mohan Lal give one of his best, subtle and most complex character portrayal/transition. Thank you to the whole team and keep up the great and high quality.

Why are you guys so much into alpha and beta males?

Excellent review. My only request to the reviewer is to watch the film once more with ear plugs so that you fail to hear the sounds. If u think the sound of a film is as powerful as the visuals (or more), then henceforth I would request you to mention the sound designers also in your reviews. We sound designers will survive when at least the reviewers give us our due recognition. Lest, we will soon have silent films with live music because the sound designers would probably be sitting in some corner grocery store 😁🙏🏼

Their individuality and uniqueness from each other is remarkable. In that way, Pankaj Kapur's understanding of character portrayal admirable.
