Retired Speed Skater
Olympic Medalist, World Champion, World Record Holder
I've spent the last 32 years of my life skating. From 1992 when I put my first pair of skates on until 2022 when I raced my final race, I competed in 3 Olympics, won 31 World Titles, earned an Olympic bronze with my teammates in the pursuit, broke some world records, and traveled the world doing what I loved
Now the dream is to skate every major city in the world and share the experience with you. If I get to teach a few things I've learned along the way, that's icing on the cake

This compilation gives a glimpse of what it's like to skate the streets of New York with Ari Bortz @thestutteringskater 0:00 Intro 6:59 Commentary These shots came from July 4th and 5th. We skated from 96th to Queens to watch fireworks the first night and the next day we cruised to the Lower East Side skate park, but it started raining so we didn't get to skate it. After taking the subway home ...

Started from my buddy's place on 96th and cruised to Central Park. The humidity was 1000%. It felt like I was skating around in a sauna, but the lap was fun. I started talking about my 3 favorite supplements, here they are if you're interested: Beta Alanine - Makes your muscles burn less (2-3 month loading phase) Choline - Essential nutrient for increased cognitive function (works same day) Ash...

Simple Tip For Better Skate Control | Joey Mantia Coin Trick
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
The main thing is that you feel the coin(s) on the bottom of each foot so you have little pressure points where you can focus your balance and pushes through. It may take a few coins stacked up to get to that point. Of course you can use whatever object you want, Ive always just used one or two coins. This skating tip has worked really well for me over the years so I wanted to share it. It shou...

We need MORE!!!
ankles of steel
Dude, 185 BPM and you are smiling. Respect 🫡
And now les vacances de la construction , bienvenue au quebec 🤣
Wonderful!!!
Correct: being patient on the outside edge, noticeably longer, feels awesome; Wrong: rushes through the outside edge stage after setting down, feels forced.
Oddly, his shirt seems to be the perfect NYC camo.
Studying vigorously 🧑🏽💻👍🏾
I bike in mtl all the time, it's usually faster to bike than go by car. Especially during rush hour. But I was concerned by how you were going through reds and going super fast passing people on bikes. This is super dangerous, not only for yourself but for others. I like the video because I think we need to stick it to cars in general but riding like you do is just a matter of time before you hurt yourself or others. Your speed is impressive though, I ride a road bike and I'm pretty sure I can't do it as fast as you...
No socks it seems?
Thank you Joey.Mantia
Is the backpack a rescue device?
the inside push goes too far forward. better is to push more to the side or back. it's more a steering of the skate
the music taste is top tier
The problem I see here is a male man rollerblading.
Your upper body !
My first guess was stiff body, aggressive and fast. I feel ss though its the wheels not remaining true with the direction of the skater.
do roller bladers do the toe flick at the end of each stride?
My opinion is on the wrong video the end of the push it is a little bit back not to the side so you are not applying constant pressure during the push
Them ankles
My 2 bits; steering instead of a loaded underpush, therefore less of a restmoment lifted leg and maybe also going to soon to the outer push that might not get fully loaded also. Resulting in more energy use/ less speed...
Great video! Will for sure use it as reference material when coaching in the local club. Big thanks!
Did you ever try wearing a cycling kit for aero gains?
Is Joey an original speedster, The Flash….
Better to wait for next week
Don’t care enough
That's pretty cool Joey! I will watch definitely more!! From Mtl too! cheers
They're both wrong since you're on a car road... You dont see cars on bike paths now do you? Just another entitled rider.
nope
I see no difference 😂😢
At the end of the push the skate should be parallèle to the direction and not opened to the exterior ? And also slower but longer pushes?
(1)the incorrect clip => short and strong weight-transfer(landing). The power of weight-transfer is not conected to underpush. (2)correct clip => long and soft weight-transfer(landing). ※ weight-transfer energy = weight-push.
strong thighs, like dam you defo a size 28 chicken
I'm a rock climber and snow boarder, never done inline skating. I could see a difference, especially when you paired the two, but I had to read the comments to get schooled. To everybody out there, Keep that body moving! I'm 60 and still going strong.
he's toe pushing in the first video which is incorrect form, in the second he keeps his feet parallel to the ground when he finishes pushing
The "wrong" one: his upper body moves more dramatically than the correct one, which makes the skating less efficient. Having said that, his "wrong" form is just the dream for most skaters who do double push :)
I've been focusing too hard on the lower body and didn't pay attention to upper
Because of the sudden force applied to the wheel, the skate is opening outward. It is very inefficient because the force is not propulsion but outward opening. Maybe not at all lol.
Still faster than 99% of us.....
The sad part is his wrong is my best correct. 🥺
I think soo😅
Hmmm, possibly over exerting yourself by not doing a full snap recovery. You seem more in Flow the correct way. Both look pretty damn good!
I think on the wrong video, you transitioned to the inside edge almost immediately and missed out on the double push opportunity on the outside edge when your body weight is on that leg.
The weight transfer is late in the incorrect clip.
Looks like a more efficient weight transfer into the under push, letting you extend that push and naturally slalom back without having to whip your front wheels back and forth. Main push leg ends up behind and puts that hip out of position as well.
With the wrong one you're carving (turning)
In the correct video you keep your body and especially arms more near the center of gravity more compact position so not overrotating your shoulders!
Both are correct... he is incapable of doing it wrong ! Lol! Yes he is carving more his tracks in the "wrong one " but still great technic!! 😂
In the incorrect clip you bring your feet down each time by just stepping in place. It's hurting your momentum because you're not stepping intro your stride. In the correct clip you are stepping into the next stride by bringing each foot with you. You are bringing your momentum with you instead of straight into the ground by stepping in place. Correct clip shows you keeping everything flowing forward in the same direction.
Нет переноса массы тела, отсутстствует качественный прокат в упоре в следствии этого скорость можно подлерживать только частотой движений
He is doing exactly what he said in one of his RUclips videos, and i using his big muskels at the beginning of each push, making a high-pressure spike then low, then playing katzup at the end.
Hard to tell the difference tbh
