Ice Speed Skating Slow Motion GoPro Hero 9 w/ Joey Mantia Utah Olympic Oval Salt Lake City, Utah
Ice is so much more satisfying when you get in a great groove, But inline is by far more fun since you can get away with so much more without sacrificing much loss.
Makes me appreciate all those skaters born with blades on their feet like Sven Kramer and how easy they make it look, your push ending reminds of Martina Sablíkova expect that you don't bob like her in the corners, great technic Mr Mantia
The hair style is as perfect as the cross-over.
That was smooth........ wish I could try ice skating atleast once in my lifetime 😪
Damn, great music and great imagery, this gives me butterflies in my stomach again, luckily to local speed rink is open again!
Also cool to see those Viking skates, greetings from the Netherlands 😉
Thanks for your good movie.
I want to be winner in Bajin winter game.
Come on in Korea.
Good luck~!
Hey Joey, I was wondering if you could do a video over the difference between inline and ice skating, for both fitness and speed.
already planned on it, just need good weather here in salt lake
I'm curious why no double push with them clappers..
@@EdmundFriedman the simple answer is that an ice blade is in the surface, wheels roll on top of the surface, you just can't manipulate an ice skate aggressively or quickly enough to make it work, in my opinion
@@EdmundFriedman The under push part of double push is generally the result of compression and landing on the outside edge of inline. You can't compress ice blades and they are less agile than inlines, they feel as if they are on train tracks by comparison
@@EdmundFriedman if you look at 1:42 he's doing the compressions associated with the double push (these compressions are what becomes the under push in inlines) it's just that the blade doesn't flex like urethane and it's in the ice instead of on top of it so those compressions don't really travel inwards much compared to inlines, but mechanically what he's doing is essentially identical to the double push
Amazing footage! Thanks for sharing
Nice bro. I'm looking to start speed skating soon. I've never skated before. Always wanted to though.
Elegant!
Awesome video! We all appreciate your hard work! #GOAT
can see a mix of the two techniques here...(straightaways)
Motion using the outside edge is useful!
beautiful video
I love how you skate.i am also a speed skater.i would wish to train with you
Unreal. Love it.
Круто 👍🏼
I remember my first time on flats, I kept kicking my front foot out, it took a while but even speed skating in the old gear was so much smoother and faster than trying to go fast in hockey skates though running crossover around the corners in them was fast and not many could do it... Jimmy Lynch was world champ and a fellow Aussie, even more irony was Paul Lehman another Aussie who made the best hockey boots, Bauer was more comfy but Paul’s were rock solid with an almost hinged ankle and bamboo support (I’m old, that was what we called the long speed blades, before boots were moulded to your feet, I wish I was young enough and my feet didn’t cramp so quick... I used to skate all day and night, sometimes the whole weekend if the surf was cactus). Someone asked about speed, I know that inline skates can reach 130kph, I assume due to no course limits, if the new to me clap blades could be used on a similar course they’d have to best the inline roller blades.
Yvonne van Gennep 1988 Olympics 3 gold best style ever x 100 % perfect
Ofcourse on the dutch Viking Sapphire :) Im proud.
Great work!
Es simplemente perfecto
Beautiful video ☺️
Wow joey, I think you should make a vedio on slide board workout🏋🚴💪
cool video!
I notice there is a little bit of a pause of the trailing leg in the straightaways. It looks like a vestige of an inline double push. Is this something you have to be continually conscious of coming from an inline background? My self being a looong ago inline racer, I have noticed that the double push is not something that ice speed skaters do.
Please keep up the excellent content!
not really any more, I used to have to really concentrate on it but it's a habit I've definitely broken. I think what you're see is coming from just skating really slow holding a camera on a pole, it's pretty damn awkward
How important is it to stretch, and drink water either before, during, or after speed practice?
Excellent video
Can I ask if you filmed in 4k 60fps ?
2.7k 60 - highest res with the max lense mod
Good resolution. Looks good on 4k TV
Oh ya - good skating as well !
you should do the same thing but in short track. Maybe give the GoPro to a short track skater and see the results. That would be sick!
it's pretty hard to skate well holding this thing in long track, i can only imagine how awkward it would be hauling on short track, but it would definitely be awesome to see these angles in short track
is there a 10 hour version? i cant get enough
Joey, just curious what is the average speed on ice vs on wheels?
Does everyone wear no socks? Not judging just curious as a soup-footed fellow.
