Bits & Pieces Quilting
Канада
Добавлен 14 апр 2019
My name is Michelle and I have been a maker and creator for as long as I can remember. Inspired and taught by my mom, I learned to knit, crochet and sew at an early age. My mom was always sewing and I grew up in the heart of southern Ontario Mennonite country, so quilts were everywhere. I started by hand quilting whole cloth quilts and eventually moved to machine piecing and quilting.
Today, quilting is my passion, creative outlet and stress management strategy. I love the play of colour, design and texture in quilts. Scrap quilts with their variety of colour and fabrics are my favourite and the inspiration for Bits & Pieces.
Visit my website at www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com, follow me on Instagram at: bitspiecesquilt, subscribe to my RUclips channel and send me your thoughts and ideas for additional content.
Enjoy the process and make the most of your fabric bits and pieces. Happy Quilting!

Beautiful!!!
JUST INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
I use the large plastic spools as cat toys. The local animal shelters are a great place to donate them to.
I have a huge amount of 2.5 inch squares and strips. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Thanks for the video! Fellow Canadian here. If you would like to pay it forward, I use the too small scraps from my quilts/projects to stuff beds for our local humane society.
I have made several of these asymmetrical style quilts where you had to think through how to put them together. They are so much fun to design. Unfortunately, I can no longer make large quilt tops because of my physical limitations, so I need to work out both the assembly and the QAYG plan before starting. I can't wait to get cutting. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration.
Hi Kathy! I'm glad you like this pattern and I'd be really keen to learn how you can adapt it to quilt-as-you-go. That would be a great option for a lot of people. Thanks for watching!
Love this quilt!
Thanks Liza! It is one of my favourites too! A great way to use up scraps. Thanks for watching.
Welcome back to Ontario, Canada!
Thanks Liza! There's no place like home.... but holy cow, it's cold!
My quilt mate and I will start ours tomorrow!
So exciting! Let me know how it goes!
Beautiful! Thanks so much for the idea and the pattern.
I'm so glad you liked it!
I just found your channel and subscribed. I bought some Moda fabric back in 2022 called Fresh As A Daisy. I have a 1/2 yard each of 15 different fabrics, including some larger prints. I think that this pattern is perfect for my fabric! Thank you!
That sounds like a great combination - have fun!
Can’t wait to try this.
It's a fun one - let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching Nancy!
What a very busy year and still managed to get so much done. So nice of your friend to loan you a machine and give you material until yours came. Have a wonderful blessed New Year!
It was a whirlwind year but I'm so glad I got to make all these quilts. Happy New Year to you too!
Hi MIchelle! Happy New Year! Such an impressive lineup you've created in 2024! And add to it all, the little matter of the move halfway around the world! I'm looking forward to many more great videos in 2025.
Thanks so much, Beth! I'm looking forward to sharing more in 2025. Happy New Year!
Thank you for the quilt show and Happy New Year!
Thanks Susan! Happy New Year to you as well.
I really enjoy your tutorials. I wish your voice volume was a bit louder though. You’ve given me some great ideas. Thank you.
I'm so glad you liked the ideas - thanks for watching!
It’s been great watching your great videos and I’m so looking forward to seeing what you make in 2025 😃 The only problem with watching your videos is that I can no longer throw any small pieces of fabric so I’m gradually collecting LOTS of tiny scraps 🤪😂 Thanks for the inspiration 👏👏🇬🇧
Hi Glynis! I can totally relate! I have recently started saving one inch strips, which I previous thought were too small, thanks to a video I saw on Revelation Quilts!!!! So many little pieces, but I can't throw them away!!! Hope you are well and Happy New Year.
I adore the gray/white quilt behind you. Gorgeous
Thanks Kim! There is a video that tells the story of the background quilt (ruclips.net/video/BC1i5obWsUE/видео.html) and the free pattern is on my website. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
😊💜 thanks for sharing!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I did these this year and gave them a Christmas gift..they loved them !! Thank you for the video. Now on to trying another of your videos ..can't spell it but it's the 1,1,2,3,5,8 ect...one
So glad they were a hit Elaine! Fibonacci is fun too! The Fibonacci spiral is a great way to use scraps or coordinating fabrics. Have fun sewing.
Oh Michelle, what a beautiful busy year 😍!!🎉 I started following you when you made the Kona crossbody bag, three ways, of course, my passion for sewing. Thank you so much for the exciting year and teasing me back into quilting, too! Waiting for what you are bringing up in the New Year ❤to you and your Mum 😊❤❤Cathy from St Patrick Mo 🇺🇸
Thanks so much Cathy! I'm glad to hear that you have found me in my little corner of the internet. I really love the Kona Cross Body bag (and now have a bunch of them!!!). Happy New Year to you!
Thank you. I truly enjoyed watching. It was inspiring.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
I thought I detected some Aussie in your accent, just though I was imagining it!
I'm not sure how much accent I picked up, but I do find I still use a lot of phrases and expressions. The Aussies just have a way of saying things sometimes that perfectly fits the situation. Thanks for watching.
Ugh! Australia to Canada? I found that more interesting than the quilts. Don’t get me wrong, I love your quilts and know you can create beautiful quilts. But leave Australia, that would of been such a hard decision to follow through on. 👎 to Canada- I’m in Pennsylvania and Hate anything cold. Tfs
Hi Sally - it really was a tough decision. Australia was really good to us and we definitely miss the climate and the birds (and all our friends). But home is home, so here we are - much closer to family and other friends and grateful for our adventure.
Our collaboration was one of my highlights for last year - it was so much fun!
It really was!!! Happy New Year to you and yours!
Wow! Even with your big move you got a lot done! I finally finished 2 of my kids’ quilts after 25 years. I just got the 3rd one back from the long armer so I have to bind it and it will be done. Then I have one left for my 4th child! In all fairness I spent a lot of time finishing the hand quilting on the 2nd quilt. It as a double Irish chain and I had a lot of it done by a long armer. But I had her leave open areas that I could hand quilting. But my arthritis got worse and worse so it went slower and slower. But it’s done and it’s beautiful! Now I’ll use a long armer for any future quilts!
Hi Cathy! I'm sure your children will treasure their quilts! Thanks for watching.
I would love to know/hear more about the puzzle quilt. It's right up my alley.
There are two videos on my channel that make use of the puzzle templates - I hope you will check them out! This is a good one to start with: ruclips.net/video/BqRA4Krxnqc/видео.html. Thanks for watching.
@@bitspiecesquilting Thank you...found em. Wasn't able to get the templates delivered to the states but found 8". It'll work. Can't wait to try it. Wouldn't have given the templates a second look if it weren't for your solid color pinwheels. 👍
How did you quilt it
Hi Kathy - I ended up just putting in some tight free motion quilting in all the black spaces (with black thread). I tried to stitch in the ditch along the horizontal rows, but I wasn't accurate enough and with so many different colours, I couldn't find one that would blend despite my inaccuracy. So black on black with tight free motion to hold it all together worked well. Thanks for watching.
Omg, stunning
Thanks Maria! It is amazing how the chaos of scraps can be tamed a bit with an intentional design and common background fabric. Thanks for watching.
Love the indigenous fabrics.
Thanks Peggy! They are some of my favourites as well. Happy New Year!
Hi Michelle! What a lovely retrospective. It was fun and a tremendous privilege to do the collab with you and Brenda and FutureCat. I have this year planned out so I doubt another collab is viable. But my quilting friend Alison and I have one in mind for the future.
Hi Kelley! The Community Round Robin was so meaningful and a ton of fun! Happy New Year!
Michelle, you impressed the socks off of me. What amazingly ceative work. I am a bit in awe because your move was quite the challenge. My personal challenge was medical as I had 4 hospitalizations and still tire easily. I did make two of your patterns this year. Blessings and I have a great 2025. (I will be watching of course.) 🎶💐💖🫂
Thanks so much Carla for all your support, even through your own challenges. I hope you are on the mend and I wish you a happy and healthy 2025.
My goodness, Michelle, no one would ever know that you moved continents and had to borrow a sewing machine with that kind of output! It is amazing and each one more beautiful than the last! I think my favorite is (of course) the Mathemagical with the Canadiana fabric-LOVE that! I WILL be making that quilt again. I gave the cat quilt to Laura tonight and she lost her mind over it! I would say that we are a success! Happy New Year, Michelle. I feel like I’ve made a new friend! 🪡🪡🪡🥰🥰🥰
Thanks so much Beverly! And I'm thrilled to hear that Laura loved her quilt. It is beautiful and so purrrfect for a cat lover. Happy New Year new friend!!
Welcome back to Canada!
Thanks Helen! Not enjoying winter all that much, but really glad to be back. Happy New Year!

Thanks so much Bronte and welcome to my little corner of the internet! I hope you find other videos you enjoy. Happy New Year!
I love the Australian Aboriginal prints. I have made two quilts from them so far, lots of scraps still. I always buy some when I visit my daughter in NSW. I am in BC🇨🇦.
It's wonderful to meet another quilter who loves them, too! And lucky to have a reason to visit to buy more. Thanks for watching Shawn.

Thank you so much for your kind words, e! I'm always so happy to hear from you. And yes, new projects are in the works.... including one that started out as a giant mistake, so took a left turn and became something completely different! Happy New Year!

Thanks Susanne! I'm so glad you enjoy them. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
