2024 CrossFit Games Age Group SemiFinals Workout #3 (45-49) – 6:31 – FS / Ring MU's
*the official clock is the red one in the back, not the we-time (that's my backup)
** this was my 2nd attempt completed Monday 5/13 ~1030am CDT. Attempt #1 was 7:24 -For this redo, I believed I could better manage the RMU's and reduce the amount of time "resting" in transitions. So that was my plan...be about the same when I got to the final 12 RMU's, but hopefully a bit faster (ended up being about 20s faster to the final 12 muscle ups). Then, splitting 3/3/2/1/1/1/1 allowed me to significantly reduce my rest b/t efforts and achieve this faster time!
*** also using the 'hack' I heard from many other athletes - using boxes to get to the rings

Attempt #1 was 3:54. For this redo, I decided to take less breaks on the cleans (instead of 6/6/5/5/4/4 I went 12/8/6/4). Al...

    Damn, I was rooting for you John. As per prior post, I do not follow the age groups, but I did take interest in your journey. I think you said you missed out by one spot last year . . . and it appears you missed out by five spots this year. I know it is a bummer but you should be proud of yourself. Strong work.

      Thank you Avera! I finished in 16th last year, but the cut was 10 then. In theory, I still have a chance this season, not likely, but it is possible. CF HQ is now in the video review/penalty part of the process. It is “possible” that some ahead of me could be penalized. If I don’t get penalized, I could move up. Also, when invitations are sent, some could decline, if they do, their spots will be backfilled until 40 accept. “So you’re saying there’s a chance.” is what I’m going with!

Anyway, your efforts all season have been impressive. Keep up the good work.

      I appreciate the support Avera! I was hopeful I'd have a higher placement, but this 45-49 age group is really deep. Lots of super fit folks for sure! Most of them (at least that I know) do still work, but a few have been able to turn it into their primary task. I know for a fact we have ALOT of really good, really fit humans in our age group since I've gone head-to-head with many of them at live events. Those are the best experiences! I really struggle with the virtual competitions (as is obvious by the fact that I have yet to be able to qualify for a Games spot). I'm not counting myself out yet though...still got TWO more workouts and I'm giving all I've got on them!

    Great job, John! Quite an improvement. My strategy for my planned redo (which didn't occur) was almost the same. I had rowed ~1300, ~1100, ~1200 and blew up my legs. I also did not practice any squat snatches and was planning to do the first rep at each barbell that way to wire the movement a bit. Even though I didn't redo, watching yours helped to validate that the strategy would have likely helped.

    jgleich21 - great job with the QF - I ended up 1974th and while I had a few "tactical" mistakes of not pacing better on a few of the workouts, pretty happy that I was able to participate and measure my level of fitness. Always interesting to see what other athletes do for regular weekly/daily training. Keep the videos rolling. Kick butt in the Semis.

    Great job hitting 245!!! Question, on the 135s, wouldn’t it have been faster to do more touch and go vs dropping it after each rep? I felt it cost you 2 secs per rep. I totally get doing singles for heavier ones. Btw from the last comment, I wanted to let you know, I won my novice division from yesterday competition 🎉😊

    • @jgleich21
      @jgleich21 25 дней назад

      Dude, that’s awesome Andrew, congratulations!! And to answer your question, yes, it would have definitely been faster. I considered it, but chose singles to try to stay as fresh /calm as possible for the 225 round. That was gonna be my make or break for this one. It would be interesting to try it touch n go and see if it helps e at all…but I’d have needed another 30s+ to get another at 245. Congrats again!

      @@chanman83 also, just saw one of the "big guys" re-did this one and did 10 touch n go with the 135...still took him about 31 seconds. If I may say something about the row.. you need a row coach. I had it. There are two huge mistakes and it’s a shame. The knees and the strike. I participated to an Indoor Rowing World Championship in 2020 and had a very very strict coach who taught me the best technique. The most efficient. I’d love to do the same to you. In CF and Hyrox the average technique is very bad. I don’t know why. In the end you lose the power of the stroke

    • @jgleich21
