I don't know if this is like asking a chef to give away a recipe, but wondering if you'd share the chord voicings, and fills, in this same particular rendition? I've picked up the general chord progression from watching and listening to the video, but not all the finger positions. i take it to be in the key of E (I've seen other videos where it seems you've played it in a different key)? thank you!

Yes Jedd that song really gets me every time. John Hartford was such an interesting artist .. I remember he was a regular on The Glen Campbell Show. Playing banjo and sometimes sort of tap dancing for the percussive sound .. it was brilliant !! He later became a riverboat captain which had long been his dream. Good stuff my man .

Beautiful John Hartford version - I reckon the guitar on the right is A / B-add4 shapes in capo3 - that picking pattern is some homework for sure (A & maybe D string skipped on the descending C/maj7/6/etc motion), the guy definitely had some banjo background. Or way simpler it's just openG tuning capo5 type thing?

Hey Jed love your playing bud. Gentle on my Mind is one of my favorites. I like Elvis's version but Glenn's is the best. Knowing a little about Glenn's work as a performer and studio musician, id guess it was Glenn himself that played on the original version. Probably along with John Hartford. You can see them playing it on RUclips from the old Glenn Campbell Show clips. ✌👍🎸

Jedd, i hear so many Tom Buch-esque things in this. Is there an uncle Larry's influence in your playing or is it the other way around? Lol. We all pull from each other so i was wondering. Tom just plays with such different colors that i dont always hear elsewhere so it catches my attention.

I first heard the original John Hartford version on the radio when it came out, and then saw him play it on 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.' It's surely a timeless classic.

I don’t know who played on Hartford’s amazing version but on the glen campell version I know it was james Burton on that delveccio resonator.😊

If its not John himself, I'd wager Norman Blake due to the Johnny Cash connection. Norman was Cash's guitarist, and Cash wrote the liner notes for Hartford's album.
