Man, playing with Rodney and Emmy Lou, what a dream job. I listened to a lot of them when I was younger. We used to crank Rodney way up and holy smokes, that got us moving. Two giants in the music world. Have a great trip Jedd, enjoy and travel safe.
Thanks Jedd, I’m really enjoying hearing you play Lanois styled tunes. Wrecking Ball is still one of my all-time favourites, and if I can glean just a small bit of what you're doing I will be very pleased indeed! I’d love it if you could show us in a bit more detail anything you’ve learned about his particular approach. The Gretsch geekery is fun too - I hadn't realised I wanted a sparkle jet! ;-)
Saw you with Emmylou at the Benaroya Hall in Seattle in 2013 and it was a fantastic show. You had great presence and your playing brought so much to the performance. Been a fan ever since. Keep up the great work.
Yeah, Wrecking Ball! I used to have an SDD-3000 I would use to get those sounds. Love that record. So cool you got to play with Emmylou. I've never seen her live but was driving by the 30A Songwriters Festival the day before hand (I had an office at the venue grounds at the time) and was so surprised to hear her incredible voice doing a soundcheck. Immediately I knew and just had chills. It's insane how much her voice just cuts to the soul.
So great to hear your experience with Emmylou Harris I love her voice, She always had fabulous guitarists Buddy Miller was awesome when he play with her !
I’ve been away from home ( New Zealand!!) for a month and hearing this is the first time I’ve really felt how much I miss having my guitars. Beautiful!
I sat second from front row at your Massy Hall show with Emmy. You were amazing and I started following you after that show. Thanks for the music and your shares on RUclips. Peace.
I knew those notes the moment you played them…beautifully interpreted Jedd. Emmylou looms large in my life as a music fan since Elite Hotel and Luxury Liner. And all my friends loved Emmylou from that time as well. Saw her in concert many times with incredible touring bands. Wrecking Ball was another high water mark in my mind (in a long list of stellar EH albums). Saw her during that tour with Buddy Miller on guitar. What a wonderful player and artist; a long time favourite as well. I really dig this community you’re a part of. Well earned, Jedd.
EmmyLou has always been a personal favorite! Elite Hotel and Luxury Liner were just out right classics! I fell in love with those albums and her Mary Danced with Soldiers on the Nitty Gritty circle 2 album was monumental. I have to say though, that Wrecking Ball really got me! Lanois tapped into another vein with her and All My Tears was the highlight for me! Jay Joyce had an album with her with some pretty good tunes that I liked but just didn't impact me as much. She's an icon and a huge musical influence! I would have loved to have had the opportunity to play guitar for her!
me included! Its almost meditative this kind of approach, I find it a great escape when I can actually tune out the noise of life and be in it. thanks for tuning in mate
Hey Jedd, I've watched the Austin City Limits episode from that period that you're taking about. What an incredible sounding band! Your playing was amazing. Cheers mate
Don’t know exactly why, but the Traveling Kind has always been one of my favorites from Emmylou’s catalog. Y’all did a phenomenal job with it. Really love Amy Allison’s “Her Hair was Red.”. Was just listening to Mose Allison yesterday. Anywho, before I wander any further into left field…. awesome album.
I LOVE Wrecking Ball -- certainly an all-time favourite record. Every note on that album is absolute bliss. Emmylou was in top form, and well, Daniel Lanois is a sonic genius. You're right, that line is so melodic and haunting. The Gretch sounds great. Thanks for your reminiscences. You've been through much and come through. You remain one of my favourite musicians. I like your take on "Wrecking Ball." It sounds much like the original but has your fingerprints on it. This is a gorgeous rendition, Jedd. I could listen to this over and over. In fact, I will.
Wrecking Ball is one of the great albums...enjoyed seeing you with Emmylou & Rodney at the Palais a few years back now. Must have been great learning experience having to cover the different stages of her career.
I looked at one of those Jets and several other Gretsch models (purple sparkle DuoJet almost had me), wound up biting the bullet on a 470 JL though. Cry once as they say :) Dig the tune!
Gorgeous tones. Maybe you could do some of these "shorts" when you travel. Just turn on the phone and say " hi, I'm here... Doing this... " Just a suggestion, want to help out.
I understand the neck size remark deeply. If it's not a good fit you'll suffer it every time you pick it up. I have a 70s chopper guild with a great tone. It can live between a Tele and a Paul. It really barks but the neck is so small. I wish there was a way to recreate that instrument with a fuller neck feel.
Hello and good day Jedd! Hope you and your kids had a great day at the pool yesterday. I’ve been a major Emmy Lou Harris fan since 1975 when I first heard her! Have you by any chance been with her when she came to SanFrancisco for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Concerts? She’s been showing up for them for twenty years now! We’ve been so blessed to have her here I wouldn’t think of even missing a single one of them! She would usually do her sound check at 7:00 Am on Saturday mornings on the main stage and it became a favorite get together of all her fans here. We would go camp on the lawn in the first row at 4:00 Am to be sure not to miss her! Wondering if we were lucky enough to hear you at any of them? I’ll never forget her introducing us to her rescued dogs she had with her on her tour bus one year! She’s such an amazing and good willed person with the voice of an angel! That Gretsch sure has a voice and sounds the business for anything ambient!
Thank you for the message mate! Yes I played a handful of HSBF years with Emmy. One morning at soundcheck we played Hey Joe in the park…that was fun! Love Emmy so much.
@@JeddHughesOfficial I’m sure I must have been there as I have yet to miss one! Thanks for your brilliant playing as she and her band have always sounded incredible and second to none!
Hi Jedd, do you typically have to play for the relative when you get together? What a treat it would be for them to be able to see you up front and center.
Wrecking Ball.
What an amazing new career arc that was for Emmylou. And once again proof of the artistic genius of Lanois...
Thanx Uncle Larry for introducing thi Jedd. Loving it from the the land down under.
Thanks for tuning in John!
Rodney Crowell and Emmy Lou Harris have been personal favourites since way back in the day.
That whole Wrecking Ball record is one of my favorites!
Desert island record for me. That album just takes me places when I listen to it.

A dream gig for sure! I loved those shows and tours. Particularly loved the shows with Richard Thompson

I hear ya mate, I had to launch a few over the years for that very reason! This Gretsch is right on the edge
What are you working on with lap steel guitar (in the background), Jedd? Favorite tunings? I've got the same guitar so it caught my eye.

Yeah we’ve worked together a hand full of times mate, I love Buddy to death.
Hi Jedd, do you typically have to play for the relative when you get together? What a treat it would be for them to be able to see you up front and center.
usually its just mum and dad ;)
The melody sounds a bit like "Man on the Moon" by REM, but your guitar sounds better.
Its “wrecking ball” from the album of the same name. Brilliant album
Yeah it does doesn’t it, that would make a great mash up. I’ve been listening to a lot of REM lately. One of my fav bands. just brilliant.
Hey Jedd ,between all the controls on that guitar and all your pedals …how are you actually able to concentrate on playing so great ? 😂
haha I just try to set em and forget em!
