Wings fan here: Nucks fans will love him at the start, but by the end of the year, they'll see why he never stays with a team for very long. He only seems to care about scoring goals. His compete level is nearly zero. He only gets offensive zone starts and PP time, but even then, he can end up being a liability. I'm glad we didn't re-sign him.

Awesome breakdown… thanks for giving us an idea of what to expect. Sure sounds a lot like Kuzmenko… doesn’t seem like a Tocc guy at all. Should be interesting if Sprong takes this opportunity to improve his defensive game and open up other opportunities as he is still quite young overall. By the looks of it he seems to be more of a centerman. These defensive highlights wouldn’t look so bad if he was not the winger… he naturally drifts low in front of his own net. The board work and d-zone coverage for wingers is definitely a specific skill set. Anyway… hope he has a positive experience in Vancouver.

This came to me post-Cup run, and man, it's crazy how these patchwork Panthers have not just all collectively found a home here, but played so united together throughout, especially this year. Every player, it feels like, had a meaningful shift throughout the playoffs, and they really seem to have the best cohesion in the NHL, regardless of who's in the lineup. The Cup tax has seen a lot of our depth players go, but Zito did well to keep the core intact. Rewarding both Reinhart and Lundell as key pieces to maximize the window for more Stanleys feels like a good move to make, especially since that means virtually the entire core is locked up long-term. For a long while, things withstanding, the East is going to feel the wrath of Tkachuk/Barkov/Reinhart/Lundell on the forward core and a nasty top D pairing in Ekblad/Forsling. Not to say that we won't miss the depth we lost--so many of those guys played key niches--but I feel we're in a good position for the coming year, and more importantly, that we're set up to build on this success over the coming half-decade at least. It feels crazy being this excited in the longer term for a team that had very few things going for them for my entire lifetime. In Bill + Paul we trust.
