As far as I know, Kane didn't have the same surgery as the others. He had the same surgery by the same doctor as Andy Murray. It's a metal-on-metal joint with a larger range of motion after surgery. Big win for Stevie Y and the Wings. They have to stay healthy but they should end the playoff drought this year. Edit: I guess Backstrom's was similar but he didn't use the same surgeon as Murray, like Kane did. And apparently, while he felt better and the pain was gone, Niklas' complaint after surgery was that he never got his top gear back. I guess we will see.
I started out skeptical, but the more I hear, the more optimistic I am. Yzerman speaking about the communication between all camps involved and his reasons for optimism has eased my concerns. Kanes own words, describing how he currently feels compared to prior and his expectations of himself also give me confidence.
Thanks for making this comparison, it was big operation for him and probably the reason why Detroit signed him on one year deal. I hope for the best but fear the worst.
@@CunuckHockey to be fair though, we all were hoping he'd be this Kane again, but I don't think any of us actually expected he would be. Definitely a great success story, and Kane may just be a freak of nature
Nothing to worry about. If multiple doctors, trainers and other top professionals all say Kane is doing well and his hip is healthy, then I trust that. The procedure done was completely different than past players and every doctor, including league and Red Wings doctors, all conclude that Kane’s surgeon had given him the best possible chance for multiple years of continued play, without any further procedures…something no other player was given. Of course there’s risk..but so many people acting like he is fragile and will break as soon as he steps on the ice. He’s not a 5 year old. He was cleared for contact way ahead of schedule and has done rigorous testing on the hip, including getting hit and cross checked..and everything that doctors and trainers have put him through, he has passed with flying colours, and his hip has held up without any issue. Of course this is all a crap shoot and he could injure himself, but if Kane himself says he hasn’t felt this good in years, and feels better than he did a few years ago (before he has hip issues) then all we can do is take him at his word..he knows his body better than any armchair GM or social media medical expert.
He just turned 35 a little over a week ago. Selanne put up 80 points in 73 games at the age of 40. I know Selanne did not have hip surgery, but still a recovered Kane can still put up 60+ points per season. Kane also said he used different doctor than some of those other players. He said he feels better than he did 2 years ago. I think in a full season with Debrincat he’ll still produce good points.
If he helps out at all, it’s a win in my book as a Wings fan. Hopefully he can reverse the trend. It’s worth noting that the sample size is pretty small to form any conclusions from similar surgeries.
Difference is the rest of them other then maybe backstrom were grinders/powerfowards kane is a skill guy that doesn’t Take much of a beating so if his skating doesn’t take to much of a hit he’ll be fine he won’t be the old kane just cause ageing but he’ll be fine
Yep, but I think that makes sense because it takes years and years of damage to that area for the players to require such extensive surgeries. But I'm hoping for the best for Patty Kane!
Good call, but Marchand’s hip surgery was something different than a hip resurfacing. But either way it was a major surgery and he doesn’t seem to have missed a beat so it’s a good comparable I would imagine
Woah woah woah, you seriously trying to bamboozle us into thinking Patrick Kane will NOT be putting up a point per game at 43 years old after having had hip surgery?????? You're out of your damn mind for saying such inflammatory crap.
@@CunuckHockeyI'm being sarcastic. But there are people out there dumb enough to expect this means the Red Wings are winning the cup this year while Kane puts up 135 points. The reality is this is a really good signing for the fact it's only 2.75M while being in a strong veteran leader that will most likely be on the third line and help out with the power play.

I share the same feelings!
I think kanes gonna be fine .
I hope so!
Yup, this held up well, lol.
Lmaoooo I’m honestly glad it’s aged like milk. Watching Kane play like vintage Kane has been amazing. I hope he’s able to keep it up!

I think we can all say we were concerned....not anymore! Patrick kane has arrived!😂😂😅

Great analysis
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it

I hope so too, but the Backstrom situation feels the most comparable to Kane. Let's hope Kane's outcome is more positive than that!
It's just a one year contract.
He will get back Formosa
It seems like everybody gets these surgeries at the end of their careers.

You really think so? 😂

I'm just saying people penciling him in to put up points on a 60+ point pace might want to temper their expectations 🤷

Mr. Sulu, set sarcasm meter to 11.
I will put money on Kane's retirement by year end.
@witsend177 I hope you don’t have children.
