Youth Basketball Led Me to Michael Jordan
Gave a video like. What a great care package from Mike. Such a great guy, glad I got to meet him at the National this past year. I have something set aside I want to send you later this year. What's the best way to get your contact info to mail you something?
Great stuff from Mike. He’s such a nice dude. That Willson Contreras is a beauty. Will be fun to see him at first this year where hopefully he can stay healthy. Always liked Willy. Mason Winn may have a breakout year too. Have a great weekend bud
This community is so awesome!
What an awesome gift! This community is the best! Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
Hi Andy! Yes, the calm before the Christmas storm. My kids are older so we can thankfully start a little later. Nice gifts from Mike. I like Score football best of the modern products because they will actually put some other players in besides just the skill position players. The past players are a nice touch too. They are also relatively inexpensive making them kid friendly. 70 Topps Earl Morrall - nice. Probably the best backup of his era. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Terry! Christmas is a very early morning for me but it’s worth it. I agree about Score and getting able to see some other players besides the skill position guys. I also wish more products were kid friendly. Thanks for watching and the comment. If we don’t talk before good luck to the Bills. It would sure be nice to see a change in the Super Bowl.
FUN gift from your hobby pal, Mike! Have a GREAT week! Thanks for sharing
Thanks! Hope you’re having a great week and I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Stay safe!
Great mailday from Mike. Nice Frank Thomas add. Also a heads up, there will be a lot of cards you think you have but you don't. Just part of the player collecting game.
Yeah, I’ve been noticing a lot of cards I think we have we actually don’t. I usually pick them up anyway. When there is 22k cards there’s a good chance we don’t have them, haha. Thanks, Allen! Hope all is well.
Congrats on the great mail day Andy. Those were fantastic cards. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Ed! Mike was pretty awesome to send that. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Great stuff from Mike! It's another example of how great people are here in our little corner of 'The Tubes'!!! Have a good week Andy! Love all of those Colts Score cards!
I like that phrase “our little corner of YT” that’s how I feel mostly. Thanks, Jason for taking the time to watch and comment. Hope all is well.
Good luck Andy! Love the goal of a marathon man! Good luck!
Thanks, Jason. That marathon goal was a lofty one. We’ll see, haha.
Hello Andy, wow you received a great care package from Scootscollectibles, very generous gift ! I had a Jerry Rice Raiders booblehead but "he looked" a little strange at me...😁, the booblehead looked a little bit as a wodoo doll and i prefered to sold it ...😁. One of the very very rare item i had sold from my collection ! The last year Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator have just signed with the Colts...😉. Thanks you for sharing and have a great week.
Hi Fabien! That’s hilarious about your Jerry Rice bobblehead. Yeah, the only defense worse than the Colts, they go out and get their defensive coordinator. It’s not easy being a Colts fan, haha! Thanks for the comment and all the support! Hope all is well.
Nice cards from Mike. Lots of cards I see that are in your realm of fandom. Andrew Luck is always a guy I like to collect.
Thanks, Diego! Andrew Luck is always a great choice. I sure miss him. Hope all is well!
Awesome mail day 😃
Thank you!
Awesome cards from Mike
Thank you!
Awesome gifts from Mike! Very generous of him! Nice bunch of Colts cards and the Topps Holiday cards are always fun! Cool to get a new Frank Thomas card to the young man’s collection too!
Thanks, Jim! The Holiday cards are fun. Always happy to have them. And super cool to add a Big Hurt to his collection. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope everything is going well with you. Take care!
You’re very welcome, glad you enjoyed them. Hopefully your wife got her package, haha! You had me laughing about the rare photo of Richardson that was great! Have a good week buddy talk to you soon!
Haha. That Richardson made me laugh. Like, what’s he got to celebrate? Thanks again, Mike. It was so awesome to get this. And yeah, a couple days later my wife got what she was looking for.
Hi Andy What a great gift from Mike, some sweet cards! Mike is a great guy and a fantastic member of this community! You had me smiling when you said you get up early to enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee before Christmas morning begins. For years we hosted 25-30 family members for Christmas dinner so once the day began it was non stop until almost midnight, that quiet cup of coffee in the morning was always needed!
Hi Steve! Mike’s a good guy much like yourself. Not much better than that first cup of coffee on Christmas when it’s quiet and peaceful. My wife’s side of the family is much like how you host. Christmas can be exhausting, haha. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope all is well.
Nice job Scoots and Lil Scoots. What a great community. Great looking patch card at the end. I wish they would put some grass stains on those before they encase them. :o) We need to start pushing for Boyer for the HOF. We have 3 years. Let's see your Boyer run!
Two great points, Drew. Those patches need to start having some grass stains. And agreed about Boyer. I should show that run again. It’s been a while. Thanks a lot, hope all is well.
@@Dcollection Please show that run. It is the beginning of our campaign.
Lets goooo! Love to see it, thumbs up. Sweet AUTO!!
Thanks so much!
That was great. Love seeing the community being so generous with eachother.
Thanks. The generosity is what makes it so nice. Very well said. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Hi Andy! Wow! That’s a fantastic gift from Mike. He’s very generous and a great member of the community. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day!!!
Hi Rob! Mike’s a good dude. Much like yourself. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope all is well.
Extremely generous of Mike to send those cards. The Score set is great. That Walker is a great looking cards. I sure hope he can turn things around. Great stuff Andy. Talk to you soon.
Hey Greg! Hope so with Walker as well. The Cardinals analytics guys really screwed him up. Thanks for watching and the comment. Talk to you soon.
What an awesome mailday from Mike over at Scoots collectables. I love the celebration Anthony Richardson card. I was a TY Hilton fan as well. The Matt Holiday cards are nice. Cool to add some modern into the PC. Thanks for sharing Andy. Hope you are well!
Thanks, Steve. Love getting the modern to pair with the vintage. There’s room for both in my collection. Hilton was a fan favorite in Indy. They all loved the Ghost. Thanks for watching and the comment as always. Talk to you soon.
Awesome my friend 🎉
Thanks
I definitely need to step up my reading game. I first got into it starting with the 5th Harry Potter book because I couldn’t wait for the movies. Lol I got into the Game of Thrones but I stalled out part way through the 4th book when I knew George RR Martin was taking his time getting more books out. That was 9 years ago and still no new books or further reading from me. Haha I got into some sports books the last couple years but I definitely need to get into more. You had some great recommendations here. The Johnny U book seems like one I could get into. Also the Doris Kearns Goodwin book seemed very interesting. I believe she was one of the people interviewed for Ken Burn’s baseball especially because of her background with the Brooklyn Dodgers. I really enjoyed these reviews Andy!
Hey Joe! I haven’t started the Game of Theones books although I loved the series. With Martin possibly never finishing the series I don’t want to start. Haha I used to read so much and then I’d read one book get busy and never read another all year. I had to find a way to keep reading. You’re right about Doris Kearns Goodwin being on the Ken Burns Baseball documentary. I really enjoyed that book. Thanks Joe for watching and the comment! Hope all is well.
The Storyteller!…the one and only Audio book I’ve ever listened to. It was fantastic hearing him read it. I’ll be honest I’m not a big reader but I also use a card as a bookmark when I do. I never knew that about why the goals are 10’…that’s wild. Have a great weekend my friend
Hey David! I’ve fallen behind on comments so I’m sorry for the late reply. I’ll have to checkout the Storyteller. I need to do more audiobooks. I have a 30 minute commute to work so it’d be beneficial for me. Cards for bookmarks are the best! Haha. Thanks for watching and the comment! Hope all is well.
@ … man I’m always way behind … the storyteller on audio was addicting…I didn’t want it to stop both because I’m always fascinated with music docs and I’ve always loved the foo and nirvana before them. It’s so much better with Dave narrating it
Great video Andy. I really enjoyed this video. As a book enthusiast who buys more books that he reads it was fun to get some insight on other books. Stopping at a book store is always a must for us when we travel. Thanks for doing this video.
Hey Greg! I’ve been very happy with getting back into reading. I try to find book stores as well when we travel. I’m looking forward to starting that Caminiti book you shared with me. Thanks for watching and the comment! Talk to you soon.
Thanks Andy for the recommendations and what to pass on. I've read a couple of the books you e shown. Thanks again!
Thanks, Warren. Glad you’ve enjoyed some. It wasn’t anything crazy but some I’ve enjoyed. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
Great job Andy! I also use cards for bookmarks. I enjoyed 20 Years Too Soon, by Quincy Trouppe, a few years back. Included his days with the Bismarck Churchills with Satchell Paige and Double-Duty Radcliffe. Also, Trouppe's days as a scout.
Thanks, Scott. Cards as bookmarks are the best. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to grab it.
Some great recommendations Andy! I am also trying to read more, after watching this I will be adding the Lombardi, Bill Bradley, and Loose Balls books to my read list. I have about 6 books in the hopper so it might take a bit. Here are a few Sportsbooks I have enjoyed reading: Sandy Koufax by Jane Leavy The Big Fella by Jane Leavy Joe DiMaggio The hero's Life by Richard Ben Cramer Showboat The Life of Kobe Bryant by Roland Lazenby Michael Jordon The Life by Roland Lazenby Roberto Clemente The Passion and Grace of Baseball's Last Hero by David Maranass Hank Greenberg The heroe of Heroes by John Rosengren Ty Cobb A Terrible Beauty by Charles Leershen
I’m behind on my comments. Sorry, Steve. Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve read Big Fella, the DiMaggio, and Cobb. All very good. I’ll have to checkout the others. Appreciate it much, Steve!
Love the books! New supporter ❤
Thanks, just gave you a sub.
That Lenny Moore and Raymond Berry Auto card is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
From 1 collector to another I wish you the best in 2025 with your collection!
Thanks you. Wishing you the best for 2025 and your collecting journey as well.
Awesome little batch of cards! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome collection of Sports Books! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much!
Really nice of Jim to send these your way, Andy. Great image of Musial on that Fleer card! Very nice cards of the Big Hurt for your son. Jim makes us Red Sox guys look good 😄 Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate this video, Andy. Thanks for sharing what you read last year. It encourages me to stick with it this year. I told myself I want to read more and go through some books that have been sitting on my shelves. I started reading Before the Glory which is about 20 different baseball players and what their lives were like growing up. So far so good and like you said, it will help me focus on some of these guys in my collecting. 10 pages a day is a good goal that I hope I can stick to. Happy reading this year!
Hey Hugo! I’ve fallen behind on comments. Sorry for the late reply. 10 pages for me was a perfect benchmark. Kept me focused on my busy days and kept me reading. Usually when I got busy I wouldn’t read and then stop all together. Before the Glory sounds great. I’ll have to checkout it out. Best of luck with your goals. Keep me updated with what you’re reading. Thanks, Hugo. Hope you’re missing the snow in Florida.
Gave a video like. I'll be looking for that book Our Team now. Great job reaching your reading goal, Andy! Appreciate you sharing the books and a bit about each one.
Thanks, Brian! Appreciate it. I think you’d really enjoy “Our Team Now”.
I had never heard about the height of the basketball rim being equal to that original gym railing. Very interesting fact.
Thanks, Mike. I found that interesting as well. Appreciate you watching and the comment.
I wish I was pushing my 40s. lol How did the first basketball get constructed? Was it a soccer ball? I love when athletes have an unspoken connection with each other. It's like they can read each others mind. I stopped the video to go read about the "Punch." I was not aware or maybe I had forgotten. Long ago, I looked for a book on the unwritten rules of baseball. I even thought about writing one. If you know of a book that covers this, please let me know. Truth is, I don't care to read, but I wish I did. The few books I was forced to read in college I really enjoyed. While working for Uncle Sam, we were required to read; Lincoln on Leadership. It was an easy read and I enjoyed understanding how Lincoln made some of his decisions.
Hi Drew! Yes, the first basketball was a soccer ball. And back then the soccer balls had laces (like a football). The modern basketball you see today wasn’t actually invented until the late 50’s. I don’t have a recommendation for the original rules of baseball but if come up with one I’ll let you know. I haven’t read Lincoln on Leadership but from what I know of his leadership it would be an excellent book to read/study. Thanks for the comment, Drew! Hope all is well.
Congrats on reading 13 books this year Andy. Ibalways say i need to read way more often then i do. My wife is an avid reader. She read 98 books this past year she said. 😆 i know she is always reading during her free time, etc... That is pretty cool Bill Bradley ran for president. I did not know that. Nice seeing the run of sports books. Treasure Island! I've seen the movie! Lol. Fun stuff. Enjoyed.
98 books is unreal. I was impressed I was able to get 13 in, haha. Yeah, Bradley ran against Gore for the Democratic nomination in 2000. I actually haven’t seen the Treasure Island movie. Might be the first book I read before the movie, haha! Thanks for watching and the comment, Steve. Appreciate it. Talk to you soon.
Hi Andy, that is great you exceeded your reading goal for last year. For me, well thought out goals are a good thing. It gives you something to aim for. Personal goals are a way towards self improvement. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on some of the books you have read. I have not read as many books in recent years. I tend to spend more of my reading time on magazines. I go through my moods. I may have to read Loose Balls at some point. Thanks for sharing. All the best with meeting your 2025 reading goals.
Hi Terry, I swore I commented on this but I guess I didn’t. Sorry for the late reply. I just got tired of being on my phone so much and really missed reading books. I’m just happy I stuck with it. I think you’d appreciate “Loose Balls” especially with your love of the AFL. Thanks for watching and again sorry for the late reply.
Great bookmark! You were way more focused on sports this year than I was. I always say I'll read more sports related books but then I read some sci-fi. 3 books into the Sci-fi series, I'm like, hey, wasn't I going to read something else. If you want some running recommendations, 'Running with the Buffalos' is a great look at college running. For marathons, story related not training related, '26 Marathons' by Meb Keflezighi is one of my favorites because Meb is one of my favorites. 'Running the Dream' by Matt Fitzgerald is a great read as well. I was on a Matt Fitzgerald kick for a while, but this is my favorite of his. Both these are great because it goes through so much of the mental aspects of running.
I enjoy the bookmark also, haha. I’m a simple man, Allen so sports is what I gravitate towards. Plus it’s what I have the most stockpiled to read. Thanks so much for the running recommendations. It’s hard to not be a fan of Meb. I’ll have to check out that one for sure. The Fitzgerald intrigued me too. Best of luck reading something other than sci-fi! Or just read what you love and good luck reading even more sci-fi.
Hello Andy, great video ! In thoses past days i would to edit a video : a book a month ! i LOVE reading even if like you i currently read less than i did in the past. I love to read anything i can find. I already sub to your books club...😉. All the books you showed look very interesting and i not yet read any of thoses ! I will urgently start with the Rick Reilly book " So Help me golf"...🤣, then i guess i will try to pickup the Bill Bradley book because he recently signed my TTM request ! About sports the best book i had ever read is "the Glory of Their Times" by Lawrence Ritter. During my youth i also used sports trading cards as bookmark....😁. Thanks my friend for sharing and Happy reading.
Hi Fabien! I know you’re a pretty big reader as well. I haven’t read Glory of their Times, so I’m looking forward to finding that. I’d love to hear some more of your recommendations. I think you’d enjoy the Bill Bradley book. And as a golfer you’ll find so help me golf humorous. Thanks for watching and the comment! Hope all is well.
Hi Andy! Thanks so much for the kind words, I am honored to call you a friend! Glad you enjoyed the cards and I’m glad your son liked the Frank Thomas box topper! Sorry for the delayed response, I actually watched this last week but didn’t get a chance to comment. Life’s been a little crazy here lately! Talk to you soon, take care!
Great book recommendations. I usually pick up several books throughout the year but rarely get the opportunity to actually read the book in entirety. Take care, Andy
Thanks. Yeah, I used to get so many books that went unread. It was nice to actually get around to reading them last year. Thanks so much for watching and the comment!
26.2 you got this Andy. Happy 2025
Thanks, Diego!
I feel envious towards readers, I wish my mind would help me as I got through a book. My wife reads some many books and I encourage my kids to read but I have yet to finish a book. Nearing 50 and may have only a few books under my cap. Best wishes in reading. This gave me a little itch to try again. Great video Andy.
Hey Diego! Making myself read 10 pages a day really kept me focused on it. I sometimes think I have to read the book so fast that I get discouraged and stop reading. I figured if I read 10 pages a day that’s a book a month. Although I feel envious on people who can read faster than me. Find something that really interests you and give it a try. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope all is well.
Hi Andy! I’m not a big book reader but enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing, my friend!
Thanks, Rob! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! Hope all is well.
Awesome job Andy! You crushed it. I also read the Johnny U book and it is really good. Great recap of the Vince Lombardi book because I actually started it a long long time ago and go so bored I completely stopped. I would be drawn to Rickey's little blue book as it pertains to the Pirates. Great goal to keep on reading in 2025! Great share!
Hey Mike! Yeah, I felt like it was a grind for a while. I think for me it was boring until her got the Packers job. His days at Fordham and Army I think dragged. Thanks for watching and the comment! I need to add a Clemente book to the list.
