Is Your Pastor the "VOICE OF GOD" to You? ...a commentary on the Roys Report of Daystar Ministry
#submission #churchhurt #spiritualabuse #abusivepastor #daystartv #daystar #religiousabuse
Should a Jesus follower submit to everything their pastor tells them to do? This question has confused many people because many teachers say yes, while some, like myself, say no. But in the recent controversy between Daystar TV ministry and Julie Roys and her Roys Report, this is one of the many questions that has been raised.
Are Jesus followers required to fully submit to their pastor and obey their demands? This video looks at the flaw in this theory and what Jesus requires instead.
In this brief video I look at a common misunderstanding that causes people to see themselves as the "voice of God" t...

Yes. Saved at 18. Stayed loyal and built my life and ministry there. Got married and blessed with business. Got called and planted a church and pastored 12 years (mother church and pastor sent us out). We succeeded and won awards in our fellowship for missions giving. After 12 years we closed down and came back because of some issues in family plus we were getting burned out. Worked in mother church and then A NAJOR CHANGE. MY PASTOR DIED and his wife took over and started changing things and giving authority to a group of people in the church who got close to her before my pastors death. Me and my wife are not liking the changes and they are vowing more changes in 2025! Please pray for us for wisdom and deliverance from guilt in wanting to leave. As we have started coming less, my pastor is reacting angrily with actions and little comments to my wife.

Unfortunately my family were under the pastoring of a toxic pastor and as an indirect result, we were divorced. My children ran from the Lord and I became hard hearted. My daughter fought for the family and I am so grateful to share that my children and I are separately experiencing some healing although they are adults now. Woe be unto anyone who falls into this category. I pray that all who have been mishandled by men or women of the faith receive healing and compassion. This is what Christ Jesus can do.

Are people really so lacking in wisdom and biblical understanding that they didn’t realize what Jimmy Evans was trying to say (although with a very poor choice of words)? Crack a Bible and read the context of Romans 13:1-7 for yourself. Then you won’t be so unhinged by a Biblical principal that was poorly worded by a man who should never have been brought into that situation. It’s time to grow up and withdraw from the mob mentality surrounding this travesty. But if you really must go after someone with a torch and pitchfork, consider a son who violates God’s commandment to honor thy father and thy mother, and drags her out before the world to publicly stone her. Tell me where that is biblically sound!

    • @FRemyD
      @FRemyD 8 дней назад

Well, no...it wasn't obvious that he was merely speaking about obeying authority (Romans 13) because he repeatedly referred to the "voice of God." Initially, I thought he was just speaking about authority i.e. if you don't want to obey your boss you should quit. I get that. But he spoke in such black and white terms it was clear to me that he was saying more than that. But, I just used that example as a springboard to talk about an issue that is widespread in the church. As for Jonathan respecting his mom... yah...that gives me pause. But there seem to be a lot of factors so I won't comment on that. Thanks for your comment. I see what you are saying even though I may not agree with you fully.

  • @andymachala999

Thanks for commenting. FYI, I'm not a cessationist. I believe God speaks today, but not in the same dramatic way that he did with Moses, Isaiah, etc. And I don't think people can "lord it over" others with what they think God told them.

I was at a church where I was allowed to teach, one of my gifts. However, the pastor was wanting me to do something that I didn't want to do. Felt pressured, leadership didn't care. Not responding to texts, didn't care about my thoughts. I did feel that they were trying to build their own agenda. Ended up leaving. Another instance, I met an apostle who i sought counseling from, after a couple of meetings he said I was his wife 😮. Threw me off. Very narcissistic. 😢. How do you heal from bad leadership. I see leadership like this and outwardly, they're charismatic and accepted by others, but inwardly, it's hurtful.

Confronting only added more trauma. I asked the pastor if what he did to me was the Christian thing to do, his response was ' this has nothing to do with that'. I wish I had got up and left the moment after he said that, because what followed by him was so much blatant lying, gaslighting and personal attacks which had nothing to do with the actual situation. My brother was there and never stood up for me. I left devastated and never returned. This church was where I grew up in and was founded by my late father who would never do such a thing as this current leader. I have had nowhere to call home for the past 8 years and I am losing hope.

This is awful. I'm so sorry to hear this. It's even worse that this happened in a church that your father founded. That kind of leader does not have the basic quality of making disciples and raising up leaders. They do not delegate responsibility and authority. What amazes me is how many are not very discerning and believe the toxic leader. There are some who will stand up for the the toxic leader which enables that kind of leader to do more damage.

many of these false teachings are based in proof-texting of Scripture. instead of the unsearchable riches of Christ being taught and expounded, a personal agenda is pushed because "the Bible proves such-and-such" ... what does the text "prove"? whatever is to the maximum gain of the one using it to prove something THE HEART OF A TRUE SHEPHERD i now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ for the sake of His body, which is the church. Hebrews 13:17 is incorrectly translated. The Greek word that was translated "obey" is Peitho, which means "to persuade" or "be persuaded". In the proper context of Heb. 13:17, the correct translation is "be persuaded" In other words, if the spiritual leader, or guide actually, is correct in their teaching, then you would be persuaded to follow that teaching. But if not, you would not be persuaded to follow. The Greek word for obey is "hupakoe". This word was not used in this scripture because we are not to just obey whatever a man says, but we are to be like the Bereans, and check everything against the Word of God. Remember, Jesus called the Bereans noble for doing this, but the modern church calls you rebellious and disobedient. Just another reason to show that the modern church is not following God as closely as they claim.

@@FRemyD Thank you. Too many people are being harmed by incorrect teaching. They're being put into bondage and worse, and it needs to stop. I feel that the only thing I can do is to educate myself, and go deep into the scriptures to be able to help others that are confused and frustrated. It seems that you're in the same boat, thank you for putting out videos like this, more people need to hear it.

Hebrews 13:17 LSB [17] Obey your leaders and submit to them-for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account-so that they will do this with joy and not with groaning, for this would be unprofitable for you. This is the one that gets brought up and thrown around in these circles. At times it is hard to speak against since it is a direct quote from the NT scriptures. I literally heard the church saying we must obey the pastor and learn obedience to the man of God given to us.

The question is: Are the leaders actually watching over your soul or are they watching out for themselves? Hebrews is assuming the best, but that's not always the case. We are also told to watch out for false prophets, so we need to be discerning and take the appropriate action.

Either that scripture is true or what we are saying which is opposite to the scripture is true. It's not right to just come out and say obedience and submission are words of abuse in the church. From the old to the new testament God's ordained leaders have always been in a place to give instructions and orders and to be obeyed. Even Paul sent his spiritual sons and gave them orders. Paul himself together with others were once sent by the apostles Acts 15:25-27. The same Jesus who came to serve often sent his disciples. It's important to explain your message with a balance so that people don't get the opposite idea to what you are trying to put across. Moses sent the 12 spies, NT Peter and John were sent to Samaria. Acts 8:14

@@LAURAFSTAGERALD My point is that the words "obedience" and "submission" have BECOME the words of abuse because of how people have mishandled their positions of authority. To obey God and to submit to his authority in your life is certainly true and central to God's word. But sadly, many people cringe at the use of these words because of abusive leaders.

After reading so many tragic outcomes of church abuse, I would highly recommend Dr Diane Lingberg teaching on abusive power in the church. I found it so insightful and healing. May the Lord be our Great Shepherd in the midst of the lies and confusion.

I lived in a Bible-based Christian ministry that was a cult for 7 years. The cult leader always called me "the faithful sister." At the end of that time, they pulled me into the main office and told me I had somehow failed God because I wasn't a pastor. I hadn't failed anything or any training. I waited for them to tell me something I actually did wrong, which they never did. They just made generalized statement, like "We decided you just want attention." They twisted a Bible verse to sound like it was God condemning me and kicked me out. We were brainwashed that our leaders were "anointed" and spoke for God. I only recently found out that verse has nothing to do with condemning God's people. I got away from JESUS for 18 years. After that I realized GOD is infinitely above human beings, and I came back to JESUS. What really helps is seeing these videos about the false preachers doing the same things the cult did. Then I can see it objectively. Claiming they have the "only truth" and if we leave we "backslide" and all other Christian churches have "false doctrine." I hope this helps anybody else who was driven away by so-called "Christians" acting badly to them. There are so many false prophets and preachers now !!! JESUS is everything to me now. I PROMISE YOU JESUS LOVES YOU AND DIED FOR YOU !!!!!!!

When the question of women in ministry comes up most of us don't look at the historical role of empowered female ministers that faced death and persecution in their witness of the gospel . The matter of church discipline must be taken into consideration and not a steadfast omission of the opposite sex in ministry . Many women missionaries have gone out during the centuries alone to start and lead churches and been very successful . When it comes to spiritually abusive pastors they are never ready to contend with correction or confrontation from the members of the congregation Most times you find out they are covering up a vast multitude of wrong doing and even a criminal past .

If I could tell you the journey I have been on and how God has revealed the idolatry in my own heart over my now deceased pastor and the church she lead. God has brought me into a very personal, intimate and one on one relationship with Him over the past 3+ years. I have separated myself from family and friends who are clearly in the same boat that I was in (the same church) and it has been a test of my trust in God but it served to point out the idolatry in my heart. Still God is leading me everyday into a genuine trust in Him, helping me let go of creatures and my delusional security that I thought I had with God, but was in a false reality inside the bubble that I lived in with others who did the same. Thank you, we need this type of content,
