Why Are There No Cheap or Affordable Engineer Boots?!
I love wool.
Where is the italian accent?
Flannels are the only reason I thrift shop these days besides looking for books. I wear flannels and jeans all year round. I like flannels for the different colors and weights. My favorite is the Brixton Bowery flannel. They are good in the cold and work on the summer as well. I mostly go for browns and tans as to not get too hot in the sun. Some Bowery's are lighter weight, flimsy, the originals are good, I like the fabric.
What about leather trucker jackets?
Bought mine from the bike shop for riding, even comes with protection 😅 I'd say it qualifies 😁
I live thru humid sub-tropical summers thinking the same, until I discovered some paper-thin wife beaters, some linen/cotton short-sleeves shirt, and made good use of clippers/pins/elastic strings to shape and hold the top layer.
What’s that 1st red plaid cotton flannel you showed first?
Thanks for the shoutout dude! Flannels for life!😊
Filters ARE GHEY
This was so good. Great layman's delivery too.
I still cant figure out how to tuck in my flannels without them bunching and looking sloppy. Also, some people do give up in summer and just wear shorts. . .I am some people. Too damn hot in summer in southern California for me to bother. Lol
Untucked is like wearing a miniskirt; unless you like that look.
@strengthandbulkMadness , ya it looks like that if I'm wearing a shorter jacket, which is why I feel like I can't wear them together, but if without a jacket, feels more like I'm wearing an untucked shirt than a skirt . . .because it's a shirt.
@@Jamesv13Haha, Untucked and unbuttoned with T shirt underneath looks good.
Great job not letting your autism hold you back!
Hey thanks! For 3.5 seasons I’ll always have wool as my first layer of defence, having it next to my skin makes anything I throw over it more comfortable.
The Tartan design goes back 1000s of years of our European Celtic Heritage and something to be celebrated..
Flannel shirts are great. Not underrated. Maybe expensive flannels are, IDK. I prefer to stick to Carhartt - not the softest, but very hard wearing - and splash out on wool garments. I’m working on a denim shirt currently and do find it fun as it goes through its phases. Basically, jeans for your top. It’s great. I wonder if some guys are reticent about the double denim thing and then lean towards flannel instead? Another option I can recommend are tattersall shirts. Sort of a British country look. But very nice under sweaters and tweed jackets.
i wish i could find a pair in stock for 800$ they are always sold out.
I just pick up "vintage" (ie 2nd/3rd/4th hand) chamois and wool shirts by Woolrich, LL Bean, Field & Stream, Pendleton whenever I come across them for decent price. I'll often double up on them or wear a wool jumper underneath/over the top. If i'm going to be out in the brush or anything then the flannel is a bit tougher against the scraps and scrapes than the wool is (unless its that heavyweight overshirt wool). I find the price of most first hand flannel shirts absolutely nonsensical. I've picked up nice shirts for anything between 50 cents and 30 dollars and they last for decades.
I see guys wearing some type of fleece vest over a dress shirt at the office. I’m thinking flannel shirts would look nicer so I just wear a flannel. I tried the vest over regular dress shirts but doesn’t make sense if it’s going to be hidden.
I just picked up a flannel from Imogene & Willie. Great quality.
That's good to hear. I just got their Larkin Quilted shirt jacket and was quite disappointed. Love their jeans though.
@ Did you return the shirt jacket? They’ve always been accommodating to work with.
Just picked up a Moleskin piece recently and its so nice.
agreed on the tag, the font looks cheap and normal people don't know the brands, so they look cheap LOL.
In my experience texture is king, and love my Sashiko Ori, Moleskin, and Kersey often more than my UHF's. Denim and Chambray being top of the lost as well. I own a bunch of Iron Heart, but ironically only one of their flannels, and it's a slubby. I love my UES flannels.
You buy directly from UES? I just did this, and you save like $50+ dollars. Buy directly from Japan when you can, it's soooo much more affordable. I just picked up a pair of ONIs for like 180 bucks as opposed to the 225-325 people be charging in the states.
Also, i dont know how they do it, but shipping comes super fast too. Sometimes faster than ordering from the states.
@@hiding_my_name I've been thinking about it, so good to know. I'll definitely give it a try next time. Thanks
Agreed. Textured garments just make everything look better and more interesting while not having to be flashy. Just got my sashiko ori from Ship John and its a beast. I also seem to get compliments on my kersey shirt from IH everytime I wear it.
@michaelshearer3559 yeah no problem. I was hesitant because the UES website and the BEARS' websites are out dated and look kinda sketchy, but I purchased from both and they are legit. I've formed a relationship with a number of the online stores in the states that sell high quality denim, but I can't pass by the savings I get ordering from Japan.
I'm old..Been wearing flannels since I was a kid in Philly in the 80s. My grandmom used to make them for me. She made me 4 of them..I would give anything to have those shirts now.
Even your soul?
You should learn how to make some for yourself, and recreate from memory as close you can the ones she made for you. She's already smiling down on ya, but that might make her smile ear to ear
Should do a gingham/plaid video next. I find it impossible to wear those shirts without feelings stuffy
I would add moleskin to this. Could maybe lump it in with flannels since it’s brushed, but it seems to have a bit more structure. Indigofera makes a great one. On wool sweaters, they’re not all as scratchy as people say. I have like 5, I wear them most of the year (it’s cold here) and only 1 of those is itchy to the point I need a base layer. Aran Sweater Market and Howlin Knitwear make very soft wool sweaters.
I also love sweaters because it’s like wearing a blanket. I wear a sweater to work or out doing whatever and I’m cozy all day. It’s just a bonus that they also look great.
That flannel ur wearing is lovely what brand is it
I’m surprised corduroy or moleskin wasn’t mentioned
Flannels with a pattern look great for layering.
I looked at flannels a lot locally because I wanted something better than what is in every box store but I didn't want to pay Japanese prices. One of my favorite ones is actually the LLBean Chamois shirt. It's a 7.5 oz. Portuguese cotton flannel that is tightly woven with a really soft brushed surface. I have short arms, and they fit perfectly when I go traditional fit and go down one size from my usual. If you like your arms longer, then go with the slim fit and stick to your usual size. On flannel alternatives, I'm surprised you didn't mention corduroy... It's kinda the most obvious alternative. I like a good sweater, but storage is becoming a problem for me. I have more hanging space than drawers and shelves. One thick sweater can take up half a drawer! My mission this week is to cull my wardrobe enough to fit the new sweaters from this last month... not fun!
Yes corduroy is nice too. James Drury from The Virginian TV show wore a red corduroy shirt with a black leather vest that looked great.
I think I would absolutely love it as well, but there's just no way I'm paying about 380€ (that's from Bryceland's London, from HKD it's 300€+ shipping + taxes + duties, ending up probably more than that) for a denim shirt. Hell I'm not paying that for any shirt, not even silk.
I find it a bit ironic that we live in a time when people need to "rediscover" wool sweaters. I wear wool sweaters for basically the entire winter as a default, and instead opt for flannel specifically if I want something *less* warm (and thick), and generally dressier (my flannels are fairly dressy, not plaids etc), for example so that I can wear a tailored jacket over it, or I'm going out to some public place that I *know* is going to be over-heated (e.g. actually the majority of shopping malls, bars, restaurants etc). On heavy denim though, not too convinced. I mean, I love the look, but I find denim to be simply super cold as a material, in the sense that's it's very cold to the touch in winter thus not very comfortable when you put it on especially, while wool and flannel are both very warm to the touch immediately.
Flannel shirts are better than leather jackets. Also, LL Bean makes great flannels for the money, and are easily approachable and affordable
I got a new LL Bean Chamois flannel at Buffalo Exchange a month ago for $18. Perfect for winter!
Love that belt, were can I find that?
too early the morny for blasphemy???
yes, some are better than others, BUT..............................
some consider wool shirts flannel and some think ALL plaid sport shirts are flannel, which also clearly isn't the case, yet the thicker fabric weight is maybe the best starting point since lighter weight flannels are usually pointless for warmth and wash terribly, etc.
they're SO unrefined and distinctly Blue Collar, tho, right?
untucked is those guys who are wearing them grudgingly t' their outdoor job and then the guys who wanna LOOK more like those guys because they like cozy but has settled on no particular style other than "these were cheap" or "these cost WAY MORE than those guys can afford, ha ha"...?
the low-rise pants can affect the proper tuck ratio w' some the shirts, and the bulky ones defy certain standards, so there are default settings along the spectrum that which none is the classic traditional look w' leather belt.
I agree i think it gets a little cringe when people make a brand their whole identity :o
Quietly raises his collar over the iron heart tattoo on his nape
Ive got a couple of N&F slub flannels that aren't overly brushed so the texture is visible, and i think those are very interesting
I've attempted N&F shirts a few times(I once ordered one of every flannel type they had), but never will again because of fit and quality issues(I returned all of them). Fit wise they were super slim in the arms, and that measure isn't in their size charts. Quality wise, ALL of them had loose threads! As a Canadian I wish I could support that company as our big name in denim, but I've already given them too many chances. I keep wanting to go back, and I hope they improve over time.
every now and then i see a flnnel that has a pattern that makes it a 10. but most flannels are just ok.
Agree on heavy denim shirt being more interesting than flannel
Love the thoughtful vids about super cool niche topics as always
Any chance you had some look and/or hands on experience with Crush On Retro? (i haven't tried myself, they look somewhat decent - but most importantly in the context of this video, they're very cheap)
What about police jackets?
You were way too harsh on Bronson. It’s ok that you don’t like that but you were forcing it way too hard lol
Hey Jake I was just wondering if your red/burgundy flame panda’s had a shell Cordovan tongue on them? Or if it was a different matching leather?
Boot collection off the chain, bro
DUDE YOU HAVE A SICKNESS THAT I APPRECIATE BOOTS JACKETS WHOOHO
truman boots are superior to grant stone. main issue with GS is they use Chinese knockoff soles instead of the dainite/vibram/itshide. my brass boot lugged sole has worn off after 1 year of use.
I got a TEMU ad before this, ironically
What a good video. I mistakenly ordered a large tall last month. I kept it for how they look with low-rise jeans and sweatpants. I have a regular large on its way tomorrow for my high rise jeans. My style all around doesn't resemble yours but this channel has still been a wonderful resource for developing it. I have some killer outfits.
Hmm, as a women in this space not sure how far my opinion goes but I guess agree to disagree on Bronson. I have purchased 6 of their tees over the years in various colors, 3 of them are the tubular athletic tee and the other 3 are the 10.5 ounce tubular Gusset T-Shirt and as someone who has limited options, you really can’t beat the quality and weight of materials you get with Bronson for the price. And as someone who is 5’1” I really appreciate the fact that their size small shirts fit me well after a wash and a dry session to shrink them down a bit (I agree their sizing is totally off for the American market, must be frustrating for guys) As someone who has been following Bronson for a good while, I have never thought or felt like their goal was to make exact replicas but to be inspired by vintage design. I see no fault in that. 🤷♀️ agree to totally disagree
Excellente!
