I picked a similar jacket from RL Purple label - absolutely in love with it. Like you said, it's hard to pair it with different things because of the pattern
Casual = leather Dressy (overcoat or peacoat) = wool Hunting/outdoors pursuits = wool You can have wool lined leather and can have sheepskin to take leather jackets down even further in temps. I think this style jacket has been relegated to hunting and in casual life replaced by a shirt jac
I've been a big fan of wool since my skater and punk friends turned me on to pendleton shirts. And I felt so cool in my thrifted pea coat when I was in college. I outgrew that one, but I've been chasing that feeling ever since haha
Awesome cuts! Vintage jackets fit me best because they didn’t make the arms so long then. Manufactures with new cuts must think we have monkey arms. I live in my vintage wool overalls through the N. E. Winters. In fact, I wear wool head to toe. Nothing out performs it. 🐑
I agree with you that the current offerings from the Japanese makers are bit uninspiring with respect of the wool fabric. Hence, tried to have a wool repro made by the Field Leathers. They do outstanding quality job; have very nice designs; and, of course great customer service. Hence, they were my first choice. However, they said no. This is a bit surprising as they already make trial jackets out of fabric and use wool as jacket lining. Further, I'd have paid whatever they were going to ask for it. Anyway any other ideas. Perhaps Himel?
These are cool jackets. I believe Freenote Cloth made a similar jacket last year. They are called the Alcorn wool jacket. The front pockets are different more of an A-2 bomber vibe. but they have the side adjusters in the back. I dont know if they plan on making more . The ones from last year are in the last call section of there website for like $350 but sizes maybe limited.
Have you tried military surplus wool jacket or wool great coat? I got some for really nice price, and they are still in great condition after 50+ years.
Looks like people have already beaten me to many comments such as monkey arms problem and such. I find that my wool ones get neglected significantly more than the leather ones and don't make it out into public most winters, but I don't have any true vintage ones. Again, finding old stuff in larger sizes: good luck! But before I watch, I will say that leather won't pick up as many smells and thing {although people aren't behaving at bars or even workplaces the way they were in the 40s where the whole world was an ashtray, and if somebody sloshes a drink on the smooth jacket, can just hose it off, etc.} Also, I can find leather in different forms with insulated or not insulated a little easier and they're typically less bulky to wear and try to drive since they're sorta designed for flying or riding motorcycles even though some can still be more restrictive in the armpits and such than I would like... Articulated backs and that sort of thing not as common on big hunting versions or pea coats.
Yes, I guess I aim for more CLASSIC than TRUE Vintage now overall. It's a similar look but a smidge easier for me overall in cost and effort or whatever.
I've owned a few shirt-jacks and used to wear a couple pretty much everywhere but have been neglecting those a lot more in recent years, too, even after buying a couple of expensy ones from Bean and E Bauer. I kind of regret wearing the canvas one so much when I coulda been wearing the leather instead and would have looked better overall, but at the time then it was even MORE rationalization that I could just throw it in the wash...
Yeah, but I can wear a wool plaid shirt UNDER a leather jacket if I want some pop of color and I can wear a wool sport coat if I want to be colorful with a plain shirt and some great tie. Slightly less casual?
The fake sherpa jackets might be the warmest overall? I had a Levi's denim one for a couple years that worked great and a vinty suede one I found used for $8 with real wool inside that was miserable and blocked no wind.
Vintage is something I really like. Particulary wool, gabardine and leather. What stands in my way is sizing. At 6'3", 220 lbs and monkey arms, my choices are severely curtailed. That style does look good on you though. Clothes and air travel make me wish I were shorter.😂
Ohh dude you gotta connect with Harris Tweed and get them to make these. Have have in house production and would make a fantastic partner for you and @TheIronSnail you guys can totally pull this off...
moths also love wool more than leather. 😋 I kid, wool really is such a wonderful fabric.
Haha yeah unfortunately they do!
Outstanding video idea!!
I like wool but i love leather
Yeah totally fair. Leather looks cooler I think
The green one and that blueish brown panel jacket are beautiful ❤!
I have a vintage woolrich packer coat. Love it.

Yeah that makes sense

Yeah I agree. I love how much shorter the arms are on older jackets. They're way too long on newer ones. And yes wool is amazing in winter!
U cannot talk wool jackets without talking about Weatherwool. A relatively new company that’s out of NJ. They put Filson to shame.

That is surprising, but yes Himel does make some wool jacket with leather trim
Any recommendations for wool jackets in budget?

I have the sugarcane black wool and leather trim one. Super dense and heavy. Lined in a tough cotton twill too
I really love wool lined leather jackets. Wool is both better in cold and in hot temperatures than cotton.

Universal Works made some Jacket inspiserd by them but i would not say they are the highste quality but they are fun
Ah ok good to know! Thanks
I love those jackets. I’d buy some repro’s.
Do you buy any specific leather jacket hangers.
Wear is your belt from?
It's from Duke Mantee. Can't recommend him enough!

And I don't really like jackets with zippers even though pretty much ALL leather jackets have zippers.

Yeah if you're that tall, it certainly is more difficult. The arm lengths were generally shorter back then
You and @Theironsnail should team together and create your own..
Yesssss

The green one is pretty cool and unique. Don't sell it. I can see it go with a lot of color schemes.
Wool might be better. But one must suffer for Style.
Name jacket 😅?
They're all vintage
Your name is dope, playa
🫡
Thanks!
Ooo, that’s a little click bate-ish 😂JK. I prefer leather but wool and canvas are my second go-to
Lol I have to play the RUclips game a bit... and also I think objectively they are better even though I love leather jackets
