Setting Up the Walls of a Yurt Style House Spencers-Mountain Off-Grid
@SpencersMountain We are finally setting up the walls be built last year. Two piles of eighteen walls are set up on the floor and made ready for the roof. A lot of work has been done towards the construction of this Yurt style house and our DIY skills are put to the test as a stack up of small mistakes could result in a big problem. The build camp has been run almost totally on solar power this year.

    What is your diameter of the cam (before profiling),and the centre distance from the grinding wheel to the centre of the cam motor shaft ? Thanks

    • @SpencersMountain
      @SpencersMountain 22 дня назад

      @@dastevoe1 cam blanks were 3-7/8” (3.875”). Cam motor shaft to grinding wheel center is around 3-1/2” with the wheel vertical. Since the grinding wheel is normally set to the blade tooth rake angle (10 degrees in this video) that distance changes with that rake angle setting. Adjustment of the pusher arm positions the blade under the grinding wheel for sharpening and that adjustment compensates for grinder angle changes. Hope that helps!

    • @dastevoe1

      @@SpencersMountain Thank you very much. I'm using an Oregon chain sharpener for the grinder head so I determined the C/L of the wheel to be a good ref. in order to use your dwgs. @ I looked at my design drawings. The spacer placed the blade (that is being sharpened) 1.76” from the face of the metal box I used. Basically room for the cam and push/lift levers. I essentially built the machine ignoring the grinder head. Then adapted the head mount to place the grinding wheel centered on the blade and mid-arch at the grinder head pivot at the tooth face contact ( not critical, more of a target for the grinder head pivot height). Again, hope that helps.

    • @dastevoe1

      @@SpencersMountain Yes, very helpful and well thought out ! Have you given consideration to using a CBN wheel in light of wheel wear using common aluminum oxide wheels (eg. wheel dia. getting smaller and changing C/L in relation to rake face of blade), probably not critical since not really a factor when sharpening saw chains. I am thinking I will start by using a conventional wheel with the aim of as you described positioning the grinder head to suit blade position then if necessary change to CBN. Thank you. Steve

    I noticed that you didn't center the grinding wheel with the center of the vise during initial set-up. Which leads me to an observation that I made with my 520-120 , or any other grinder for that matter. The Left hand cutters and the Right hand cutters are not the same distance from the grinding wheel. If the grinding wheel is supposed to be centered in the tooth , then that wouldn't be achievable when switching from Left to Right cutters without making a change in the centering of the vise. Or am I missing something with my rationale ?

    • @SpencersMountain
      @SpencersMountain 24 дня назад

      @@cliffhaskett7703 one feature of this model grinder is the vise pivot for “down” angle. The vise has to be rolled for right or left cutters as needed for the down angle. There is a sliding base below the vise. Outlined in the manual as a way to center the grinding wheel as wear occurs, other models use this as a down angle compensation ( note the graduated scale ). In any case, grinders are universal and adjustment compensates for different gauges and tooth profiles. Some tooth profiles could require additional vise fixturing. Bottom line is to go through the manual and how to adjust to the angle chart, then use that knowledge to set the grinder to your specific needs. Yes, right or left cutters are separate operations and centering may involve offsetting an adjustment to a desired result.

  • @cliffhaskett7703
    @cliffhaskett7703 25 дней назад

    I was looking at the Oregon branded vise in your Amazon link. Would that be the exact same as the Tecomec that you installed ? Or would you NOT have to add washers if you ordered the Oregon vise and put it on a 520-120 ? You also mentioned adding a .200 thick washer/spacer/bushing. Would a 3/16" (.188) spacer be sufficient ? As if I were to cut it out of a piece of 3/16" cold roll with a hole saw. With proper I.D. and O.D. of course.

    • @SpencersMountain
      @SpencersMountain 24 дня назад

      @@cliffhaskett7703 my observation is that Tecomec makes Oregon as a rebrand. Just appears to be an up charge for rebrand parts. Since my vise fit, I am sure the Oregon vise will fit. As to the washer there was a .1” extra stud length increase in the replacement vise. My vise included a washer that was .1”. I do not recall why I used a .2” washer. I personally do not like to stack washers. Best answer is to make sure you provide enough washer thickness to keep the nut from bottoming out on the stud threads. The vise ultimately needs to be tight and not move after the nut is tightened. Hope that helps.

    Very thorough installation video. I have a better idea what to do when I install my Williams direct vent wall furnace. I had a vertical style, Williams direct vent heater that lasted 30 years. It worked great. I then tried an unvented Rinni heater. It heated well and didn't generate measurable CO. However, it requires electricity to run. The internal thermostat is too sensitive. Finally, it generates water vapor so you must also run a dehumidifier. The vented Rinnai heater costs over $2,000 and I suspect it would also have too sensitive thermostat. It would also require electricity. So I decided to get a new Williams heater, which worked well for years. They are less efficient though, at 66% versus 80% for the venter Rinnai and 99.9% for the unvented Rinnai.

      @@tomasvrkoslav5364 Best advice is to email Peavey and ask for the schematic with your serial number. Looking at the Peavey forum might help. Or someone there may sort out your particular issue. The MKII is a very interesting amplifier with power and class adjustments and very different from the first version.
