  • As we get things lined up to get to work on the Mountain, a tree needs to come down. Carpenter ants had moved in and the tree was becoming an eyesore. Our old burn barrel has rotted away over the years and time to make a new one to take care of the twigs and branches. It was also time to upgrade our crappy limb saw to a Jameson professional pole saw and cutting head. There is going to be a lot of limb work to do on the Mountain and we get to break in the new saw.

The pole saw did an impressive job of cutting through some large and somewhat dried out hard wood. There was a neighbors fence close to the tree that I did not want to injure. The shape and condition of the tree was not going to allow a clean fall of the whole tree. Going the piece route worked real well. Once topped to a safer length, the rest was dropped with a chainsaw. I skipped video of that part as it was not something I would want anyone to try to duplicate. It was a odd mess of a tree. Thank you for watching!

Can you use the barrel to make charcoal?

There are ways to do that. I get nice charcoal in the ash if not stirred to complete burning. A smaller barrel can be put inside to control a larger volume production. Thanks for watching!
