I know how they feel , I just recently had a contractor who is my stepson, cutting trees on my property for the wood . I went to check out his work and just as I turned the corner he dropped a tree across the power line coming from the pole to the weather head . It shook the whole house almost tore the weather head away from the breaker box , instead of him turning it in on his contractors insurance my wife didn't want that but we had to turn it in on ours . I found out weeks later he had been on meth that was the reason she didn't want him to turn it in on his insurance !

Most of these were homeowners and the successful ones were arborists. Cutting trees down is an art; notching correctly, typically 1/3 of the tree and the back cut; using wedges, should leave “hinge” wood based on the desired effect. Most professionals these days don’t fell trees because of all the ground hazards. But frankly, this whole comment section is full of the kind of people who would drop a tree on their house if they had no other choice but to cut it themselves.

It really can be a hard thing to think things through when there is a lack of experience on how to do so. Long enough lever and you can move the world concept: Rope to top of tree will be able to pull tree in direction you want it to go with only 1-3 people providing direct tension on it during cutting. Missing data: The enormous weight and inertia the multi ton tree trunk presents.

@@antoniokawarski6111 Maybe that is true in some cases, but with lack of education on just how dangerous the energy in a tree is, those who know they can drop a tree but are not educating themselves in the process set the stage. I know that having a home to live in does not mean they have the money to call in professionals. Also, I am aware that in the logging industry there is always a body count each year among the 'fellers'. It appears to be a trade learned by experience in many respects. I had two large trees on my little lot that were old majestic ones; a catalpa and soft maple. I contracted with a professional service to remove them. They did so from the top down each time. [The house was close by]. I note in the video some had professional rigs on. My assumption is either they did not think things through correctly, or the tree did something unexpected. Dangerous work. Dangerous work.

@Chris Not true. I have both polesaw and chainsaw at home. I try to DIY many things to save on money too such as pruning and downing a few small trees, but only based on calculated work efforts/risks. The enormous risks of trying to bring down a large tree is not one of those. I'd rather let the pro take all responsibility for whatever phucks up.

    • @bpfoley89

That shed might be older than the tree. The real question is, why did he call in a crane for something that just needed a pole saw and the same amount of time? Chop that into little bits from the house's roof, anchor the limb to the tree with some webbing, and let it fall away from the shed.
