  • You have heard the old saying that you can never have enough clamps. Faced with that problem for making up some glue laminated beams and the high price of our preferred pipe clamps, we came up with a low cost solution that used up some scrap material from our solar panel mount project and yielded a very usable tool. These clamps use common "strut" (Uni-Strut, Super Strut) formed channel used to hang or mount plumbing and electrical work in buildings. Lengths of 1/2" all thread also sold with the strut can be cut to length for specific jobs without breaking the bank.

You should consider building in a crown when you do glue up. I have set many glue lam beams always try to set with crown up.

Denny, sorry no real plans. Sawmill had some basic drawings for a 28” log diameter. After that, everything was based on scrounging, repurposing and scraps laying around. Download the owners manual for a woodlands mills sawmill. Lots of dimensional info there you can customize to you wants.
