Down af for FF:T

It's funny that it used to be that platformers was the safest choice for a game, but it does feel like the safest choice now is cover shooters. Also I love the Disgaea games, but I did really dislike Disgaea 3.

Oh man. My senior year of college, I dated a guy who just got a PS3, and spent almost an entire weekend watching him play Lair, and I kept thinking "he can't be actually enjoying this. Why is he still playing. He's failed that stealth mission like five times. You know what? Let me get ahead on some reading and -- oh, oh no, it got worse..." The relationship did not last.

The PS3 had Demons Souls. PS4 had Bloodborne. As enticing as the Demons Souls remake is, now that I am primarily a PC gamer it'll take more than literally one game to get me to buy a console. Especially when said console is from a manufacturer that refused to keep up with demand for several years and instead allowed scalpers to run amok, to the point where now that I could probably go to a random walmart and grab one I have zero desire to.

Not gonna lie I side-eyed when you brought up Shadow of the Colossus but your reasons for it are valid. It's very much a 1 time experience and can be frustrating to play if you try to force the controls. And looking at the content you've made on your channel your tastes seem very much in line with games that give you a ton of playing options vs ones with intended experiences in-mind.

Disgaea is one of my favorite series and 3 is my favorite of them all even if the mechanics are extremely outdated. Also I've never looked into platinum for the games but its probably not the most enjoyable thing because the games are just grinding

Naughty Dog games, to me, are really good for one playthrough. The gameplay is incredibly mediocre, but serviceable. Once you know the story, there's just not much reason to play them.

I completely understand your opinion on Brutal Legend, the RTS sections are just so bad, but the rest of the game is so so good. I can't help but love it.

I think Disgaea 5 is the best. I haven't played all of them, but 5 gave me the widest assortment of shite to do so I didn't feel burnt out.

I feel that Disgaea burnout. Every so often I want to go back to the series, but even with all the QoL making it much more reasonable, I kind of just drop it. As for the other games, no comment on Lair. I haven’t played those two soulslikes but I have some others and honestly, I like the ones that have some jank to them. Code Vein and Strangers of Paradise particularly stand out to me. I think I played Mag like twice, though I remember the advertising more than anything. No comment on Brutal Legend. Assassin’s Creed is Assassin’s Creed, I disliked the early ones as I couldn’t stand the controls and the combat was mind numbing to me. Funnily enough, the new ones have more compelling combat for me, though I still don’t care for them. I really like both Last of Us games and I feel like they did the most that could be done with the “grounded” third person shooter style and think Naughty Dog’s thing is mixing scripted cinematic stuff and small interactions throughout the games. Little details you can find and “organic” interactions that pop up in gameplay, which can be very neat, but also backfire quite hard when you go off the rails. Uncharted I could never get into since the combat felt too generic and the scripted platforming isn’t my thing. I will say, the PS3 standouts for me were Demon’s Souls, Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous, and Ratchet and Clank games.

I played Assassin's Creed 2 because it was free with Games with Gold on Xbox long time ago. I 100% it and told myself I will never play another. I just did not enjoy it at all and when people say 1 and 2 were the best the writing was on the wall. The only reason I 100% it is because I am a perfectionist and want every achievement/trophy the game has.

At first I was annoyed you were "leaving" the game titles up but I'd check back what they were sometimes and I find it annoying how some people don't leave them up long enough. Thank you.

Wes, what are your thoughts/feelings on the Dishonored games. I can't say I have seen all of your vids yet, but wondered if those two games would spark your interest.

Yeah. I beat Lords of the Fallen. I was surprised how short it was. It had like 6 bosses. There were foundations of a story but it never got fleshed out in a meaningful sense. I enjoyed the flow-y combos but the halberd I used he would wind up behind his shoulder, I could hit the enemy on the backswing, and when he swung forward, it wouldn't count, because I already got my one hit for that attack animation. It sucked. I would have quit if I didn't have someone watching.

Okay, i get what gou mean by "Deck 13" being... Underwhelming, but I actually played through all of "Atlas Fallen" co-op and only wish that the story was a little better and the game continued on longer. It is the one title from them I would give a chance to.

yeah demos seem to have gone mostly extinct, and it's insane to me! its things like that, that justify piracy, otherwise im just gambing $60-100 that the game isnt going to suck

I get the same thing with some of my beloved games, I think of it like burnout. Especially when it comes to Ragnarok Online and WoW, I can't even touch them anymore.

To be fair, Disgaea 3 wasn't exactly the best game in the series and many view it to be the black sheep of the franchise. It picked waaaaaaaaay back up once 4 came around, being probably the best entry in the series in many people's eyes. 5 wasn't too bad either. That said, it started petering out after that - 6 and 7 could have certainly been better...and Dimension 2 is that weird one that probably will never get away from the PS3.

I found you from your FF5 series and I'm sad to see it go, but knowing that you're going to do stuff on Square's whole PS1 catalog has me excited for the new year. I'll be waiting on the Parasite Eve video with bated breath. Word of advice when you get around to SaGa Frontier though, you'll probably want to use the remastered version that's on Steam. I love the original to pieces but I can't go back after being able to play battles at 3x speed lol... And you might want to do Blue's scenario first, to introduce yourself to the loop that most playthroughs will go through (mastering magic).
