Quick is two turns. Haste is double turns. And slow halves the turns of the enemy. Essentially your getting 8 times as many turns on the enemy. That's beyond broken for any turn based game.
Time Mage starts out slow but really picks up later. Quick, Haste, and Meteor surprisingly outpace the old reliable rod smashing. Got to love jobs that can actually take on Omniscient directly.
As funny as it sounds, the Dualcast-Quick combo works exactly like you said at the end of the video 😂 it's completely busted, and it's how I personally dealt with Omega 😂
Yeah, Quick is one of the most broken spells of FF, it's even more broken in FFVI where you can reduce mp cost to 1 with the Celestriad and double cast Ultima in a single turn with the Thamasa Soul, for 4 Ultima castings in a row. No wonder why it was never used again after VI.
Imagine Quick-Quadra Cast in FF7, especially if Quick was Mimable. Imagine Quick-Triple in FF8 basically setting up for endless Limit Breaks. Imagine Quick-Rush in FF9 where you can have nine attacks before Necron has one if you have enough speed. Imagine the endless cycle of Quick-any action-Quick Ball in FF10 on the superbosses. Imagine using Quick to get off four finishers on bosses in FF16 including Zantetsuken. Quick really is a boon in any system that can support it.
Fun fact, the best use for Return is to scum getting rare steals since if an encounter is rare, it could be 10+ minutes before you even find it again, but Return lets you have another attempt immediately.
Fun fact about quick: In the early versions of FFV If you use quick then magic lamp, you would lose the magic lamp. *Permanently* As for duel casting with quick I'm not sure how that works gotta experiment with that haha
Oh man, I don't think I've experienced that but I can guess how it would work. All those times I wanted multiple people to use the lamp but couldn't because I believe it replaces itself with every use. Quick probably blocks the "replace" script but not the "disappear" script.
For dual casting, cast your desired spell first, then Quick. You can then dual cast 2 more times. Yes, this means a Time Mage with dual cast can click Meteor 5 times. No, you won't have enough MP to do this more than once.
Exdeath just had to sit there and watch as the Warriors of Light jittered like they had ingested pounds if sugar and caffeine before they dropped the entire asteroid belt on him.
I don't know if this works in Pixel Remaster (It might not work), but I will share what I normally do in the SNES version against the tree form Exdeath. 1. Smash a Poison Rod. 2. Cast Quick. 3. Literally just afk until Exdeath dies. This is because the DOT timer when under Quick's time-stopping effect never expires. 4. Because Exdeath dies to DOT instead of direct damage, this skips his transformation phase, thus skipping Neo Exdeath entirely. I only suggest doing this if you have a fast-forward function, though, as this normally takes 4 hours to do. What I do alternatively, is do the above, and then turn off my stream (and the game) after casting Quick. By that point, the game's over anyways.
I actually found a use for Regen with time mage. If you use quick while regen is in effect you can just wait for them to be fully healed before doing anything. And it works for the entire party regardless of who uses quick so in the final battle against neo Exdeath you can just use quick after every Almagest and let the party heal back to full essentially meaning you can never be beat it certainly prolongs the fight, but still kind of a neat trick.
Ah Time Magic, I remember when they first invented it... *I ALWAYS HATED IT!* Jokes aside, here's a few interesting things about time magic that can be useful to know: For starters, many time magic spells do not care about your stats at all. They calculate based off of your level compared to the enemy's level and the enemy's stats/immunities (where applicable). Gravity/Demi for example works like that. Comet/Meteor are another pair of spells that work that way too. But because of this, time magic is *amazing* when paired with a non-magic job, because it doesn't matter how high or low your magic stat is, only what the enemy's stats are. Sadly yes, Regen is awful. It's based off of your level and your Stamina stat. Which means that even at 99 Stamina and *being* level 99 the absolute most you can get out of regen from healing is 613 (rounded up). For an average playthrough you might *at best* maybe get half that. Mute is bad too. In fact it's so bad that in the SNES version it didn't even work! But of course the big one, the true beast of all time magic isn't Meteor...it's Quick. It is *the* single biggest 'force multiplier' spell in the game, even more than X-Fight/Rapid Fire spam. Mostly because Quick is universally useful on everything, rather than only physical attacks. Which hey, if you're reading this, chances are you watched the video, and you saw what even a taste of the power of Quick can do.
Quick is disgusting, its even more Disgusting in FF6 where you can have an accessory that lowers MP cost to 1 and another that grants you double cast, which allows you to do silly things like spam Ultima 5 times in one turn for a measly 6 MP cost.
I can’t wait for a summoner challenge. I actually did one myself and completed at minimum lvl 41 on all characters. It was pretty hard taking down bosses but it was possible.
Honestly, kinda surprised you didn't know about quick. Quick is amazing. Quick double xfight, or dual cast bahamut then quick, followed by quad bahamut for 5x bahamut a turn is stupid strong. You should do a playthrough at the end for shits and gigs where you try a few of the strongest builds you can think of. If you cast quick while under the effects of quick it fizzles and is a waste of a cast. Xmagic and quick is strong and with summons and black magic and xfight it's downright broken. If only xfight didn't break the twinlance's effect since it's able to be dual wielded. Being able to cast quick then xfight twice for 32 attacks in a turn would be absurd. The 5x bahamut is much more effective against Exdeath than double xfight because xfight's targeting can be wonky.
that Almagest into Grand Cross from Exdeath really showcases how strong Quick really is, in any other job, you probably would recover too slowly to get back from that, Time Mage? Quick, Phoenix Downx2, then those who revived uses Quick then Phoenix Down, then Elixir Spam and everyone is back up again in 3 actions.
It's nice (for me) to see rods used for their attack damage. It's an interesting quirk that they can be kind of strong like 1/10 of the time. Glad I'm not relying on that damage myself though! "Does gravity work? No? Too bad for _you"_ I vaguely recall Archaeoaevis being Lvl 5 Deathed in his last form. Thought he might not have the Heavy flag so I looked it up. It's just the usual Lvl5 Death ignoring Heavy trick. What surprised me was the _4th_ form didn't have a Heavy flag. I wonder if the game would softlock if the 4th form was berserked somehow, to prevent the script that loads the 5th form. Fun stuff. 'Float, which will only be useful in 2 fights' Oh no, are you gonna go through the damage tiles of ExDeath's castle without floating? Old can hypothetically make an enemy vulnerable to a level n spell. If you time it right while their level ticks down :D Don't think I've ever seen Graviga used against the Crystals. Looks nice, even a bit more consistent than proccing instant death. Going from Comet to Meteor felt real good to watch. Such a big jump in damage, even if the consistency is similar. "Glad to see some enemies are equipped to deal with Meteor spam." XD *This is from memory, so I'm not 100% sure:* DoubleCast is unsurprisingly _weird_ with Quick. If you select Quick as your second Doublecast spell it whiffs, taking your MP with it, and I think casting Quick on your first Quick turn just wastes it too. Funny that you leaned so hard on Comet in many fights instead of boosted rod breaking, but that's boring after doing it so much already so using actual Time Magic is a nice change of pace. Same with Hermes Sandals, their haste can't be dispelled and is always active even after you revive, they make you immune to stop, slow, sleep, and paralysis; but might as well use the heck out of Hastega instead when you have a team of Time Mages just for the sake of variety. Props for defeating Omniscient legit, it's unclear from the video if you used Teleport to nope out of random battles that aren't worth fighting or if you used the chicken knife at all. On PR Quick + boosted rod breaking makes the final fight faster and safer but your commitment to quick double meteor is admirable. With dualcast, you can indeed cast meteor 5 times in a single turn with dualcast meteor + quick, dualcast meteor + meteor, dualcast meteor + meteor (make sure you have enough MP lol).
Dualcast into quick into dualcasted syldra with the air knife tore Neo Exdeath apart. Especially since Mime meant that I didn't have to tear through my MP to pull it off.
Time Mage might be the hardest of the mage classes to do a solo run with, the majority of its offensive spells are incapable of killing and the two that aren't are some of the most RNG dependent abilities in the game. Quick makes for absolutely amazing combos but only in conjunction with other job abilities. At least White Mages are able to wipe undead enemies and heal.

How about for a "final" challenge: Backlog has the freedom to choose to make his party from the "rod-breaking" Jobs but is banned from breaking any rods. @backlogbuster thoughts?
For dualcast quick, it only really works when done last if i remember correctly, so you doublecast with quick and double doublecast after, so 5 spells in a turn, good luck having any mp left after 2 turns lol
Upon experimentation, it turns out QUICK cannot be cast within a QUICK action. So the best result is DUAL CAST (METEOR, QUICK), DUAL CAST (METEOR, METEOR), DUAL CAST (METEOR, METEOR).

Add onto that a bard raising Agility to 99. FFV wants the player to break it. Peak rpg design imo.
When I can get 16 times as many turns as my enemy for doing Dualcast/Haste/Slow/Quick or Haste/Slow/Quick/Mimic:
With time mage it's not a question of why, but when?
And also "should I be floating" for some reason
