    I just stumbled upon this video after watching some other FF7 challenge runs. Man, hearing, "the idea is a challenge that can be fun for everyone to try," is so refreshingly wholesome. Instant sub.

      :D I'm glad that's appreciated! Unfortunately, it DOES mean it's rather difficult to come up with new ideas for challenges. But rest assured that I'll do them when I think of them, and the goal will always be to find stuff that's fun rather than simply difficult :)

      @@velvetbutterfly Right. But what I'm saying is that I don't know if I'd want to. No Knights of the round

    As a kid I was too impatient to catch a chocobo so I'd touch the closest corner of the marsh to get the zoom to come after me and once it did I'd try to run across once I got a good pattern from it. Took forever to do but I got to where I could run straight across without fighting it most of the time. I actually did a No Encounters challenge run on FF7 last month and it’s definitely not too difficult but does require forward thinking and decision making around what materia and equipment you need well in advance of quite a few boss battles. Such as picking up elemental materia to pair with Lightning materia for materia keeper or picking up the Destruct materia from Sephiroth in Nibelheim for ironically dispelling Sephiroth Wall spell in the final battle.
    This challenge is super fun and gets you coming up with strategies and materia combinations you wouldn’t normally use. Sephiroth is a pretty easy final boss as well so the final battle is not too bad even at a low level.
    Useful materias in this run are Restore (levelled up to Regen), Elemental, All, Added Effect, Time, Barrier (levelled up to MBarrier), Destruct (for the final battle), Double Cut, Long Range, Enemy Skill (for Trine, Aqua Lung, Shadow Flare and Beta), the 3 bahamuts and Comet for good damage, also Fire, Ice, Lightning for the early game and pairing with elemental materia on armour. Also characters like Barrett who attack with full damage from the back row are good.

    I bet an interesting challenge would be "minimum battles". If you turn random encounters off and do Guard Skip in Midgar (to skip Air Buster), Cosmo Canyon skip (to skip 2 stingers and the Gi tribe leader), and Midgar Skip (to skip Proud Clod), and then play the minigame at Fort Condor to skip that boss, I think the total required battles comes in just under 50. I haven't tallied up all the EXP from those battles but it'd be an interesting (and probably very hard) challenge.

    that was a pretty nice and well done challenge, but i have some tips that maybe make it a bit easier:1. you can either get beta for the enemy skill materia that you already have, or, if youre lucky, just run straight through the swamp and dont get the midgar zolom encounter 2.get between 60 and 90 points when you have to "dance" for rufus, and you get a hp plus materia, its not only way earlier but also the force stealer is wayy cheaper and you can buy it in corel, and there is only the 1 bird fight and jenova between getting hp plus/force stealer and corel.3. wait with the last wutai fight until you have atleast 3 enemy skill materia, to learn trine from him, so all 3 characters can use it.(im playing ff7 again atm. on ps4 and the back row is really useful, i never put anyone there, and the 2 eyes in the ancient temple gave even me, who was lvl 35 with 3 hp plus etc. some trouble, theyre worse than the disc 2 enemies in junon) 4. you can also get a weapon for cid, vincent and a megaelixier in bone village at that point

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  2 года назад

      All good points! I thought about going for Beta, but it felt like too much trouble to be worth it for me personally. And honestly, I just completely forgot about the HP Plus Materia offered in the minigame for impressing Rufus. Definitely a better reward.

    Umm the title asks if one can beat ff7 without random encounters… You answer the question early and that makes it “clickbait”…?
    I don’t know about others but I generally expect if a question is put to me in a video title, I feel that question SHOULD be answered at some point anyhow.
    Though usually in videos like this, it’s at videos end the answer is given lol- but who cares at what point it’s given?
    Very interesting video concept.
    7, 8, & 9… Lol the main FinalFantasy games I have indulging in lol 😂
    Played some of Final fantasy 3 of RECENT 2-3 years and played what I think is Final Fantasy 4…. With the character Cicil.. And beat it easily… Game is maybe too easy BUT fun & depressing story- first time around anyhow, as I knew not what would happen later 😅

      @@LibraScope I hardly think that can count as a spoiler… Well, not one worthy of getting upset about. Actually, kind of nice knowing ahead of time then seeing so much of the video and if the answer is/ was “no” finding out after spending SO much of your day waiting to see- if you know upfront IF it’s going to be a fail, one can watch without that *possible* (depending on the person) nasty feeling of “time being wasted”…
      As one might be expecting the RUclipsr pulled it off; as RUclipsrs like yourself pull this challenge stuff you make videos I’d say in about 99.49 percent of the time in posted videos. Rare to encounter an epic fail at some challenge a expert tries.
      Cause experts tend to fail at failing, til they expect too much out of their own abilities lol 😝
      But even a failed attempt is 100 and ten % worth showing as it shows the limits of how far you can push it when trying to challenge yourself- but I feel it’s possible that some would get upset over someone showing a failed challenge, as everyone is different and it takes all kinds lol
      Btw being careful not to spoil anything about the video via my comment here lol. Takes all kinds…

    For limit breaks, you can get the next levels limits in any order. So if you focus on just kills, you can get the second level, and then the third levels limit break that needs kills. And then you can get all the limits you get by using limits. You don't actually have to go back and forth of using limits or getting kills to get your limit breaks.

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад

      Right, this is true. In a run like this, there just aren't going to be enough enemies to do that for a full party, if even a single party member. I didn't count exactly how many enemies you could defeat in a single run, and I should've. But unless you're taking advantage of every optional encounter you can, there's an extremely low amount. Even if you ARE, there's still a low amount. Then you factor in party configurations forcing people out of your party, and each party member has access to even fewer enemies to kill.

      Totally fair suggestions. Unfortunately, they're ones I did try. I looked up where to get Bio consumable items, and there aren't any places to buy them; only Morph/drop/Steal.

      This is something that SHOULD be possible, given the low levels speedruns reach the end at, and the HP/MP Conversion runs people do. I'm not entirely sure how that or the HP/MP conversion runs are accomplished, but somehow they get it so that they take extremely low damage. I think 4-8 Productions one time even did an HP/MP conversion run where he never refilled his MP. So you can definitely push the game far harder than I did, successfully :D

    The only issue with something like this is you miss some fantastically weird bad guys. From Gamefaqs guides, a hundred times more effort went into most of the random encounters than you'll ever notice during gameplay (partly due to glitched AI). For example the Zolokalter enemy can actually work with your party as it attacks anything under Poison status, so if you poison other enemies he attacks them! And there are missing enemy abilities, dummied abilities etc.

At least based on when I did it for this video, it looks like the goal is to get the ship to initially touch the top of the cliffside, and then since there's not enough room to land there, it pushes itself down to the bottom. That's the best advice I have.

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  3 месяца назад +1

      I'll be honest and say that I've never really used Reflect much at all in VII (or most of the games in the series, really), because of the inconsistency. Sometimes things that you'd assume are spells or that do magic damage are 'special attacks' that can't be reflected. A lot of the time the enemy using a spell absorbs that element, so reflecting it just heals them. Most of the games give reflected spells a damage bonus, so having Reflect on someone and then casting a spell on them yourself could be beneficial. It works well in some of the other games. But off the top of my head, I can't think of any place where Reflect would offer a transformatively effective or interesting strategy. And Reflect Rings are obtained so late that even in a challenge run like this, they're basically completely unnecessary. They could maybe offer some use against Ruby or Emerald, potentially. But I'm not sure.

    • @erikofskullisland3987
      @erikofskullisland3987 3 месяца назад

      @@LibraScope Ruby does have that Ultima, but then it's ultima and it may bypass Reflect. Also, the Dark Dragon has Ultima. I was thinking maybe at least Magic Breath from Parasites in the Northern Crater could reflect? Though I forget if they actually use that by themselves or if you only Manipulate them to use it. Can Lvl 4 Death from the Gargoyles reflect? Maybe Shadow Flare? Ruby uses that sometimes, as well as the Dragon Zombie.

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  3 месяца назад +1

    Should have gotten HP Plus from Rufus in Junon, the 2nd Enemy Skill materia from the Intermediate Hall and bought the Force Stealer from Mt. Corel, if necessary. Force Stealer is alright, but the Demon’s Gate boss would have been WAY easier with Aerith having more HP. In that case, since Fury with Aerith basically gives free group heals for the first half of the game, it’s more valuable than the alternative strat. The math is NOT straightforward, like you made it out to be.
    Sadness makes you grow your limit bar slower… but this equation ALSO factors in damage taken, which is similarly reduced. Aerith will basically ALWAYS die against tougher enemies if she’s in Sadness. By contrast, Fury doesn’t incur extra damage, but DOES grant additional limit generation. Dying more often is terrible, but being in Sadness will cut your damage almost in half… but it will also lock you out of some potentially useful stronger limits. Most characters can’t reach the higher levels under these constraints, but some CAN reach them, and it’s entirely based on how often you use the limits.
    The boss in the cave of the GI can be killed with Phoenix Down as well, which is an altogether different proposition than spending an X potion. I didn’t see you do it in the video, but Cure Materia is super effective against the ghosts, as long as you cast it against your enemies.
    Every time you fight Reno and/or Rude, you can steal Touph Rings and Zeidrichs.
    If I had anything else to say about the strats in this video, I’d wonder about the “Joke” weapons for a run like this. You’re gonna find a lot of them, and since you aren’t able to afford a ton of materia or master half as many as that, you could put some major work in. It isn’t useful for long but it could be worth checking out.

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад

      Some of that is fair, like getting HP Plus instead of Force Stealer, absolutely. But some of it also doesn't hold water here. For example, when we're fighting so few enemies, it doesn't matter if you have Fury on and get your Limits regularly or not. You will still ultimately be stopped at the next set of Limits until you can defeat enough enemies. Across this entire challenge (at least the way I did it, where I didn't abuse infinitely spawning non-random fights), there are approximately 40-ish bosses, and then maybe another 40-50 standard enemies you can fight (maybe around 70 if you could get all the way through the mandatory Battle Square at the end of Disc 1). And some of those fights require you to use a specific party member, like the fights in the Wutai tower being Yuffie-only, first fight with Shinra soldiers or the ones before you jump onto the top of the train being Cloud-only, or conversely not being able to use Cloud in any of the fights through most of Disc 2.
      While you can usually skip to the next tier of Limits by killing enough enemies before using enough of the previous Limit, you cannot do the reverse. What this effectively means, is that most characters literally cannot (or at least effectively cannot) even access Limit Level 2, because there aren't enough enemies to defeat along the way. Cloud for example needs to kill 120 enemies to access Blade Beam. And while Red only needs 72 to gain Blood Fang, he also misses basically every fight through Midgar, cutting the number of kills he has access to even further. And ALL of this is running under the assumption that you make sure a SINGLE character gets basically every available kill along the way. So while it is definitely possible to get certain characters to Limit Level 2 (but pretty much only one per playthrough), it's going to be extraordinarily tedious, and I'm pretty confident there aren't any that could get to Limit Level 3. Even getting Yuffie as early as possible still requires 128 kills with just her, to get to Level 3. And Vincent almost assuredly won't have 96 available kills left, by the time you get him. You end up only really being able to get his Level 2 and Cait Sith's Level 2 without putting in any substantial effort here. And even getting both of those in one run will be kinda tight.
      Similarly, while Phoenix Down work on Gi Nattak, it's only a 1/4th chance, which isn't worth the risk of wasting so many on such a tight Gil budget to me, and I didn't really wanna use save scum strats personally. It would work of course, but the cost is going to vary wildly.
      Enemy Skill doesn't afford the player much here either. Yes, having an extra person to cast Aqua Lung, Trine, or Beta (had I cared to grab it), would've been nice (I did grab every Enemy Skill out of habit, by the way... I just didn't choose to use my limited Materia slots on more than one :P ). But you're severely limited in which skills you can grab, because you can't fight most of the enemies who hold enemy skills.
      Only the Disc 2 and later fights with Reno/Rude have that equipment. The early fights all have no steals. And I did (and always do) get all of their steals that are available, hence mentioning it in the video. I basically always get every boss steal.
      The joke weapons might be useful. I use them in normal runs for sure; at least the Rocket Punch and Nail Bat anyway, because their stats are so high for when they're obtained. But, I think your stats are going to be low enough until the second half of the second disc (when bosses start dropping a wealth of EXP, and you can do optional fights like Ultima or the Gelnika Turks fight), that the boost to physical damage won't amount to much. We're talking about doing like 120 damage with physical attacks with Cloud, to bosses at the end of the first disc and such, in the back row. If you did what someone else suggested and sold a bunch of stuff for a few HP Plus Materia in Cosmo Canyon (as well as your suggestion with the Junon HP Plus), you might be able to avoid the back row and boost that damage. But it still isn't likely to be substantial enough to matter too much. And it definitely won't beat out things like Poison ticks. Still, you're right that there may very well be some strategy I'm not thinking of, that could use the joke weapons really well :)

    Yes but Yuffie is pretty much required on such a run and DOES require RANDOM encounter TO use her also those FIXED soldiers you fight BEFORE the 2nd boss fight of the game those don't count as RANDOM battles so you COULD use them to hit lv 25 learning all 6 limit breaks for Cloud Barret Tifa then.
    As for the HP plus materia get it during the GUN Salute MINI game first Junon visit Also I won't ever fight Carry armor WITHOUT using KoTR on it and for me that Requires to fight battles.

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад

      Ahhh, FFIX would definitely be the toughest under those circumstances, because even though the fastest battle speed is a lot slower, the actual speed-up function in the modern port of that is actually more like x4. Definitely an interesting idea :D

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад

      There's usually never any need to, unless you know exactly what you're looking for. But there are a fair few decent things you can Steal in the game. It's not quite as lucrative as it is in games like FFIX though, simply because most bosses in VII don't have anything at all, and mobs usually don't have anything valuable. In games like IX though, most every boss has something worth stealing.

    I didn't see anywhere in the run that said you couldn't sell stuff. Did I miss that? If you needed money couldn't you just sell some random items?

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад +1

      I'm pretty sure very briefly I mentioned selling stuff once or twice? Maybe I didn't. Regardless it's totally allowed per the rules in the video, though if someone wanted a harder challenge they could disallow it. It's up to them.
      That being said, selling stuff isn't SUPER viable either way, until you've already passed the point where you'll have enough money to make do. If you think about it, you're not getting random battle drops to sell, you don't have the money to buy a full party's worth of equipment at each town to later sell, etc. And as such, you don't have much to sell that's worth Gil, but useless to your party.
      It's the type of thing that in the first half of the run could probably get you a Gold Saucer ticket in a pinch, and if you sold EVERYTHING outside of your current equipment and such, you could probably grab an HP Plus Materia once initially arriving at Cosmo Canyon. But it's not far beyond that where you can do Wutai and beat Godo for a healthy payout anyway.

    You do whatever challenge you want but Yuffie is a random encounter full stop. Yeah you can get her first try but that’s not a 100% encounter it’s not forced it’s a random battle

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад

      I really do think that's up to interpretation, and I disagree. Firstly, there are plenty of other battles that aren't forced, but aren't random either. Similar to all of them, it's a battle that I have to choose to engage in, by meeting certain criteria. The criteria is simply different, since it's not related to opening a chest, or entering a specific screen, or being seen when I'm supposed to be sneaking or whatever. But it's still one I choose to engage in by meeting those very specific criteria. The benefits related to after-battle spoils are also intentionally miniscule. It CAN also be guaranteed by save scumming.
      But most importantly, in the Rocket Town forest, the chances that she'll spawn are 255/256, which means she's got a 99.61% chance of showing up. Meaning, while it's TECHNICALLY possible you could get a different fight first, you're likely to encounter her roughly 255 times or more, before you encounter anything else. Those odds are high enough for me to feel like it's not random, even though it uses the random battle system to engage with it. You're free to continue to disagree of course :)

    I’m sure you can kill demon wall with Phoenix downs? Just wondering why you didn’t do it that way?

    • @LibraScope
      @LibraScope  Год назад

      I've never tried that, but I don't think it works. It's not considered undead, and so healing actually heals it. If only Phoenix Down works specifically, it's a trick I've never seen anyone do or mention, and I can't find anything on the Wikia. That's one of the few roadblock bosses for people in a normal playthrough, so if that worked, you'd think it would be the default strategy shared.

      @@Np_Beanie_Plays So, you must be thinking of Gi Nattak. Because I had a file saved just before the Temple of the Ancients, and so I rushed there and tried it. I threw 15 Phoenix Down at him, and all of them showed a green Miss. Even after the first one, that guarantees that it would heal him, not hurt him. But just to be thorough I decided to make absolutely sure. This is because he's not undead, and throwing healing at enemies doesn't hurt them unless they're undead.
      That being said, even if it DID work, I would've mentioned it, but said the same thing I did with Gi Nattak; that just skipping the boss with a couple of item tosses wouldn't really make for a good video, so I'd rather show people a real strategy :)
