Fly Tying: The Sulfur Usual - A Must-Try Pattern
Say a guy at the lake float past me with this while I was in my kayak. I instantly logged onto Amazon and bought myself one. They are so fun and fit my minimalist style. Also fits right in my trunk, I don’t have to put my big kayak on the roof anymore as much lol.
That's basically how I got into it minus the kayak 😂. Yeah it's nice for quick trips vs bringing the canoe for me.
Ha, that's an interesting way to do a clinch knot! When you first said forceps I expected you were going to do a Davy knot, there's a super fast way to do that one with forceps.
Great suggestion! I've never tried the Davy knot on a fly to be honest. Is that your go to knot?
@@BryanWentFishing No I generally use a clinch as well, but I've been trying to expand my repertoire with different knots.
I recently bought this float tube and just used it. Big, big mistake. I'm going to try and return it.
I'm curious what happened. So far mine is still working.
Great video and first hand demo on how to set it up and fishing on it. It's been about two years, is it still holding up? Did you keep using it, or did it end up in the garage?
Thank you very much. It actually held up pretty nice. I used it just recently trying to fish for pike. I did have some issue with the flippers. Let me know if you're interested on seeing what happen.
I dunnobruh. Nice stable SUP board with a seat installed would prolly be less cumbersome and free up your casting and spotting ability.
And I totally agree with you. Being low on the water takes the spotting ability away. Casting wasn't as bad as I thought though.
That’s cool but fuck no I ain’t dangling my feet in the water like that yall have way too much trust in the water
Lol I know how you feel. Thanks for dropping by.
@@BryanWentFishing enjoyed the video tho keep posting fishing I like to watch
Thank you very much. I appreciate the good feedback 🙂
Best tip I've seen in a long time. I have tremors and really struggle. Sometimes it a 20 minute job to tie on a fly. This looks like it would help a great deal. THANX.
Glad it helps you out ☺️. Thank you very much.
I’ve used my forceps in a pinch for nail knots as well. Tight lines and thanks for the great tip😎
You've read my mind for a follow up video Steve 😊. Tight lines and thanks for dropping by.
Nice little technique, definetley going into my bag of tricks.
Awesome, it's a nice addition for sure.
Great idea- BUT DO NOT use an ordinary blood knot with fluro carbon as it will eventualy slip! Put the end back through the top loop and make a TUCKED blood knot. ALWAYS wet it before pulling it tight to stop the line burning it's self.
Valid point! Thanks for the reminder 🙂
Genius
Thanks Steve 🙂
Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to post this!
You're welcome. Hope it helps you catch more fish! Thank you for dropping by.
Been using this method for about twos…works better than my fat fingers! Hahaha!
Lol. Never thought of it that way but that does make a lot of sense.
I’m not a fan. Stupid idea. These will be on clearance very soon. Thank you for the information. Thumbs up for the video. Thumbs down for the product.
Yup I agree, it is definitely not for everyone. Thank you for the thumbs up 🙂
😂😂😂😂 visioneer right here… in europe its very common to use this, in spain theres even mlf leagues and huge tournaments with up to 500/600 float tubes, this is developed here since it started in early 2000s, we even have trolling motors installed on the lower part of the float, it can take you where shore fishing cant and without the neccesity to buy a boat
Yeah it's pretty versatile. Interesting idea for the float Tube tournaments. Trolling motor idea is also genius.
Oh hell nah
Always lubricate your knots! Don't do it like this if you want the strongest knot with minimal effort.
I did mention to lubricate it at the end of the video. Thanks for reminding others. 🙂
Two improvements to knot. 1. Lick it! Lick the knot this lubricates it. This is important as there is a lot of friction and heat produced when the knot tightens which can make know brittle. When you lock it it will tighten easier as well and you can use the traditional 8 twists instead of five. 2. Get a combo Forceps/scissors called a scissor forceps. Then you are switching between a forceps and a nipper. And you can ditch the nipper and retractor thing. Less is more when Fly fishing. You can also pull on the hook with the forceps to tighten the know instead of putting down.
Love tip number 2! I tighten the knot by pulling the hook most of the time. Thanks for the input!
Brilliant. I myself 75. Eyes getting weaker. Plus fingers not helping. This method given me inspiration. I was struggling. Not any more. Thanks millions 🦘🦘🇦🇺
Glad it's helpful ☺️. Hope it keeps you fishing.
Thats the way I've been doing it for awhile probably learned it on RUclips. Works great
It definitely works great. Do you use it on bigger hook sizes too?
Love it! Whenever I want to change flies it usually takes me five minutes to take a seat on the bank and lots of fumbling around to do it properly. Thank you old hands and bad eyes! Most of the time I couldn’t be bothered! This method is potentially a game changer for me. Will try it next time
Awesome, glad it helps. Let me know how it goes for you when you try it and how you like it :)
nice job
Thank you 😊
Beautiful flies. Good luck on the water!
Thanks! Planning on going sometime this week or next week for Pike. Maybe just even off a dock.
Nice knot. My hands aren't like they used to be ,and cold weather takes its toll when I try to tie knots. A definitely good tip. Thank you. God Bless n Fish on!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you 🙂
I've been trying knots with forceps for 30 to 40 years now. They have held up great. You really don't need another knot. Good video
Thank you very much. Yeah I agree, I noticed they're holding up better than my hand tied ones.
🥰 Mate your a superstar, I love fishing and now I'm getting on a bit this is going to make tying knots at the bank a breeze.🤩 Keep up with the great work 😍
Thank you 😊 Glad it helps. Hope it helps you catch more.
Thats pretty slick!
Right? That's exactly what I thought the first time I saw it 😂.
Wow!
Thanks!
Brilliant!!!
Thank you😊
Holy moly this is the most valuable video I have seen for knot tying. I am 69 years old and my hands aren’t what they used to be. THANK YOU
Really glad it helps. Thank you very much.
Me to , that is so helpful for me and my failing eyes..👀
Hope it helps you catch more fish. Let me know how you like it when you try it.
@@BryanWentFishing we’re having unseasonably warm weather here in Ohio. I am working the election polls Tuesday and then off to fishing. My son in law wants to get out and chase some steelheads. Thanks
Nice sounds like fun. Hope you land one. I've yet to land a steelhead this season. They keep breaking me off 😅
Awesome. My cold fingers thank you!
You're welcome and Thank you too.
Great tip
Thanks
Thanks for sharing very useful
You're welcome, glad it was helpful.
It s keep going... nice
Thank you 😊
Love it.
Thanks 😊
Anyone who went to medical school can do this with their eyes closed. Good job!
Cool! I learned something new today. Thank you very much.
Is there a way to use this method to tie and improved clinch knot?
I believe it should work. Let me know if you want to see it on a video.
Works for improved chinch knot and a loop knot also. Tight lines.
Yes I'd like to see it for the improved clinch!!!! Thank you! @@BryanWentFishing
Will do, thanks.
thank you! its getting harder to see the line these days. this will help tremendously.
I forgot to mention it helps with that issue too 😆. Thanks! I totally agree, especially on low light conditions.
Bingo! so simple!
Thank you very much!
Great idea. Thanks.
You're welcome, hope it helps.
This is an amazing knot bryan. Nice video and tight lines as always!
Thanks bud. Hope it helps you out. Tightlines.
Do these belly boats have a engine for them I was going to get one for about 175to 250 any recommendations would be very appreciated thank you RD
Not that I know off. But even without an engine I'm able to cover a good amount of water.
Thanks very brother I'd imagine the ones with the engines alot more also, and I seen some for 155 to 175 I might look into getting the 175,thanks yet again ty
You're welcome, let me know how it goes. Hope you enjoy it as well.
@@BryanWentFishingwill do I live in Ireland beside the river liffey it's normally full of coarse fight but foreigner immigrants have cleaned it out, so I decided to try fly fishing as to I had done many a time when I was younger, I only managed to catch a few all year, there nearly cleared out to,out of the river, all canals around were I live cleared out,so I am going to hit some of the big lakes down the country but a waiting list for them like lough conn corrib and big ones like.it.if no joy I will go back to my competitors coarse fishing there on big lakes with deep waters they can't seem to do much damage to them.Anyway take care and tight lines
I use a drill paddle for mine. It works good and the float tube is so light I can glide through the water pretty fast.
How is the the float tube going now after nearly one year. Nice video mate.
Thanks mate. So far so good, no leaks or deformity. I'm actually looking forward to using it more this coming spring to target Pike.
Do you de-barb your hooks or not?
Wow galing gusto korin mamingwit
Thank you very much. 🙂
I know for my canoe I would put on a rod holder so that I could troll some crank baits.. Congratulations on your new canoe. Should be some really good adventures and fishing off of that.
Thanks! Totally agree with the rod holder. I believe there is one that would work for both spin and fly rods.
Well done canoing fishing kabayan hindi man kalakihan ang mga crappy pero very much working good sa fly fishing mo with black flies...very nice video kabayan..
Thank you very much Joven 🙂
