Exploring the art of writing.
I'm Grayson, a writer living in New York City. I'm here to help you on your creative journey by sharing what I've learned-and what I'm still learning-about storytelling. After writing my first full-length novel when I was seven, I've authored more than a dozen action-adventure, sci-fi, mystery, and dystopian books. I've also written and directed several short films, composed music, and acted onstage, on TV, and in films.

How to Find the Right Idea for Your Novel
Didn’t know that Scot the woz is a writer/author.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I reckon hindsight cringe happens to every writer, but no doubt it’s rougher for those who start young and put a lot out there. Just wanna say, you put in the hard yards to get to where you’re at - be proud of that! And I wanna encourage you not to put too much pressure on yourself now that your standards have changed - self-imposed pressure can be crippling (speaking from experience, I guess !) & it kills creativity. Do what you love and have fun doing it. Our childhood selves got that much right, and i reckon it’s one of the most important things when it comes to writing. All the best with your projects!
I legit only clicked on this because my man's Harry Potter dimension jumped onto my laptop screen, but then I got some solid tips. Thanks, HP!
This has Mark Manson vibes and im all for it
This is why I startedwriting on Wattpad where I knew no one would take my books all too seriously so I could practice writing. 😂
I found the way you speak in here a bit odd. “I was a published author, sort of.” Like what does that imply exactly? Any creation you’ve published makes you an author. There’s a huge old school misconception that going indie or none transitional route makes you lesser than and that’s just no where near true.
Was The Mysteries of Harris Burdick the book that changed your life? If not, what was it?
Isn’t the bleeding part of the Hemingway quote hyperbole though?
I totally agree!
60%??? Cool!
Hello how can learn as writer please tips
Subscribe for new writing videos every day.
Thank you. Dude
What I'm learning is I have no business being here. I don't enjoy writing, I enjoy making up stuff and studying the craft of writing through videos like this. Recording my thoughts on a page is the last thing I pretty much ever want to do.
3:41 3:43 3:47 like any thought, it's as real in your mind… whatever, you said it better!
4:47 4:51 4:54 4:58 it's a cycle
7:48 7:53 Heraclitus had that one idea, and then he was never the same
11:26 11:28 11:32 11:34 11:36 counterintuitively, you'll have job security without a job - no one is there to fire you!
Accept yourself;)

This should be posted and pinned in every writer’s group. The number of “suffering” writers out there is crazy. Sit down and write.
For god sake try “the loop” by Ben Oliver. I am almost finished with it and probably will read “the block” after it
Glad to see you blowing up! I always believed.

Bleeding doesn’t always come from injury or unproductive pain… blood is also symbolic of fertility and creation, of motherhood…
Hence why I said "usually" not healthy. But good point.
as a highschool student who frequently writes for fun, and as some therapy, it can be like bleeding - it is very raw - but its needed sometimes.
I'm so glad I found this channel. It has something refreshing that lifts my mood and writing mood.

Another Myth (or perspective): Storytelling mediums are diverse. I was so engrossed with the idea that I had to write each scene perfectly (as I saw it), that I had to create mountains and walls of text to be a "true writer", and I felt really dumb when one of my friends said "Just write a graphic novel...?" I still kinda suck at drawing, but I'm getting across my points a lot better because there's nothing nebulous. If I draw the character as I see it, then there's no question as to how the readers see it. Novel writing just wasn't for me (yet), and that's okay. The novel/short story may not work for you (yet). Experiment with videos and animations, manga and comics... experiment with every medium that has to do with writing; you might stumble across one you love. I plan to return to novels once I hone my drawing skills a little more, but for now this is okay, and I'm much more happy with my work.
Thank you for this video! I'm writing my first draft of my first book. For 15, i'm making great progress. This serves as another motivator along many as it's great to hear ideas and advice from a more experienced writer. Great video and keep it up.
Last year in August I went on an airplane for the first time and spent a week in NYC and ever since I've been fascinated with setting some of my stories there/places parallel to there
Welcome back 👍
Great video! Its great to hear from like minded authors who are a similar age to yourself.
This is so inspirational! I WILL release my work and become a writer! Thanks for the advice and keep it up!
Myth number eleven, "You can't write unless you're a native speaker." Myth number twelve, "You can't write if you're blind." These two are simply not true, as I'm an example of the opposite. Grayson, your videos always give me a lot of inspiration and motivation. Even though I'm in a somewhat difficult situation now, I continue writing at any rate. From my perspective, this is an exceptional way to develop creativity and look at our world from various POVs. Also, experimenting with different genres can incredibly polish your skills, you have to understand how to correctly apply them though. Best regards from Ukraine. Keep up the great work, everyone!
Слава Україні❤ Наснаги вам, пане.
I used to believe the myth about writing entailing suffering. A myth I would add is that reading isn’t a part of your storytelling process. Most of my stories come from not only reading the work of others, but studying them. I hone in on what exactly draws me to this particular story so greatly. We can consume fiction we just enjoy, but we should study the fiction we want to create. Another myth I heard Brandon Sanderson bring up recently is that you can’t just use the verb “said” for most dialogue.
I agree so much. I wasn't much of a reader but I drew from other arts or experiences. You learn to write by writing. It's a process.
Good vids :) Keep going man
greetings, i am a writer who going to write my first book with a friend and also i wrote 260 poems in my 2-3 years old (2022-2024 periods) and i wrote some stories thank you so much for this video. it is fully truth that myth like this exists. we meet some people who have said “why you even write? it is so dumb. go and become IT person instead”. like, what? the one thing i don’t get only is what about the time of writing the book? some says that you need “YEARS” to write the good book but i can make one in months. if it is bad? have a good day
I'm a 75 year old grandma in San Francisco. I found this video to be the pep talk I needed to return to my "tome" that I've been writing since 2017. The myth I fell for was "waiting for inspiration" rather than write a bit every day. I have one short story published and I hope to live long enough to publish, independently, more of my writing. As a change of pace, I wrote some short stories inspired by Japanese YoKai, or spirits. Anyway, I wanted to say thanks and to let you know I was cheered up with your video.
I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks for watching.
That’s badass! Omg. Please finish!
I'm 50 writing my first book and used to live in Sunnyvale. my book is about Japan too. I would love to read your short stories.
I love your sarcasm in this video silly funny man!
Wow, beautiful.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA GENIUS!
Did you stop to see any art?
*In that little time , I wannabe create ) The time is limited, we r compelled to make the most out of it I can't take for granted The key isn't the exciting premise This feeling is paralizing, Protagonist Inexperienced Life Get caught in the trap u r missing out Line up with our identity = align with, =correlate with My energy feels at an all-time low during winter
I’m a sucker for poetic titles: ‘ Something wicked this way comes’, ‘Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind’( where do I sign up?) Even enter the dragon’ does it for me. It may have been B. Lee himself who threatened to pull out of the project if they changed the title to ‘ Hans Island’. Hands down with that.
Bro u look like daniel Radcliffe 😮
I’ll start today. I promise.

I'm glad that your tour is so extensive. There is a lot of experiencial memory to be gained to your benefit. Have you ever been this far from home before? We're cheering for you
May your expectations be surpassed by what you learn on the journey
