  • With the right tools and knowledge, you can create a stunning cover for your own book-for free. In this video, I break down how I transformed the book cover for my upcoming sci-fi novel Catalyst of Control from mediocre to epic.
Designing your book's cover is one of the most important parts of the publishing process. No matter how good the story, your book will have a hard time succeeding if it doesn't have a fantastic cover that suits the genre and attracts the right readers.

Before learning that you’d designed the cover yourself, I thought it was professionally designed. You did a good job with it!

It's fun how different this is to my experience. I saved up to commission an artist I knew personally, who i worked closely with as she planned and painted. Then, after proper art scanning, my bonus sister helped me in Photoshop with the text and barcode elements. It's wonderful for what I need but happened in a way hard to replicate. You've developed an achievable process with a quality result. Congrats on your significant growth in a very specific craft!

Thanks! Cover design can be a complicated process, and there are a lot of ways to go about it-but of course, what ultimately matters is the end result, and whether you're satisfied with it. This was the first cover I made where I was truly satisfied with how the end result matched up to my initial vision. Took a while to get to that point, though.

@@graysontaylornyc It's easy to know when something is wrong with a design but hard to pin down what needs doing right for vision-matching. I'm glad you've got this one under your belt for when you tackle more
