ABOUT
I'm Grayson Taylor, an author and filmmaker, here to help you on your creative journey by sharing what I've learned-and what I'm still learning-about storytelling. After writing my first full-length novel when I was seven, I've authored more than a dozen action-adventure, sci-fi, mystery, and dystopian books. I've also written and directed several short films, composed music, and acted onstage, on TV, and in films.
You'll find writing advice, publishing tips, and behind-the-scenes videos on my channel.
You can find my books, films, music, and more at graysontaylor.info.

Man, I love your videos. It saddens me there are so few but they’re so high quality. Your channel is a gem.
Thanks, I appreciate that! I wish I'd made more videos, too. Much more to come this year, though, as I'll be able to focus a lot more on this channel.
Wow the production value on this video had me thinking you had tens of thousands of subs! Keep it going!
Thanks! I will 👍
Lot of good points! I'll check scrivener out
I highly recommend it! Scrivener's many features can be overwhelming at first, but the upside to that is lots of customization and helpful tools within the app.
@graysontaylornyc If was writing a societal novel with gore-ish action and a romantic subplot what would you recommend?
thanks, also do you have a Pinterest account of your editorial company? 💫
My publishing company is on Pinterest and Instagram (@winterforestpress). I don't post much on Pinterest, though.
@@graysontaylornyc thanks I'll follow the ig account :D
I wrote in paper and I don't never use phone. Should I try to write in it .
I don't use my phone to write, just to jot down ideas when I'm out and about. When it comes to writing, I'd say write however you like best. Maybe experiment with different mediums (writing with pen and paper, writing on a computer, etc.), and find what works best for you.
no no no no no my friend. "If your story is set on outer space or a rogue planet maps would be pretty useless." Absolutely untrue. That is when maps and time keeping become more important not less. The map of a room, of a city, of a county, of a country, of a solar system even if for just personal use is always useful. As is a calendar of when events happen and where. Creating or "stealing"(repurposing) ttrpg maps that give you a layout to work with is a writers best friend. As is creating scale lego models of rooms, etc. Creating a temporary lego model to give you an idea of the layout of a room and be able to visually reference is amazing. Or having a more permanent model to come back to can really save a lot of headache. Also if you do go the model route for temporary stuff always remember to take a picture of the layout before you destroy it. This way if you need to come back to it you can still reference the location or even reconstruct it.
I meant Maps the app, not maps as a common noun. Certainly, maps you create yourself for a fictional setting can be useful; I've created many maps for my own fictional locations. Creating scale models is a cool idea-I haven't exactly done that, though I have built LEGO renditions of vehicles and characters from my books in the past.
@@graysontaylornyc lol cool and good to know that's what you meant. Something else to consider is character sheets. Everyone always and only thinks of D&D but there are lots of TTRPG's in lots of different genres. They can be really useful for helping to keep track things and really think about what they can and cannot do. Actually a lot of TTRPG elements are good for co-opting for writing.
Take look see at PLOTTR too. It’s FANTASTIC
So I've heard! I haven't been able to try it (yet), but it seems like a great tool, especially for plotters who like to see their outlines more visually than just text on a page.
