Pop-punk (like Heart Attack Man), Midwest emo (also like Heart Attack Man), hardcore (like Turnstile), and heavy blues rock (like Royal Blood) are my main inspiration. Particularly Midwest emo and pop-punk convey deep-rooted and relatable stories that I personally think make for good inspiration, especially characters. The other two convey less deep meanings and stories, but they’re catchy and high-energy, perfect for action scenes

You should add Dune soundtrack by Zimmer to the Sci Fi one

Just did! Thanks for the reminder-I've been enjoying the soundtrack of both films lately, but forgot to add them to the playlist initially.

I LOVEE listening to John Williams’s music for writing (especially his Harry Potter scores). Unfortunately, his soundtracks are so good sometimes that I get distracted😭

Ooh, yeah, stranger things. My MG series is basically Stranger Things for kids, no swearing or horror, but very a similar feeling to the show
Middle schoolers searching for the cryptids of their small town (not exactly ST but gives me the same feeling)

I absolutely love writing to Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. Idk I just enjoy writing while listening to songs I can hum or sing to, specially coming from my favorite artist.

I listen to the playlist that the Tale Foundry here on RUclips put together. I think there are three and just short of an hour each. Ambient background music, not distracting at all.

Absolutely, I've written a couple stories with Tale Foundry's playlists

I love Interstellar! it's such a beautiful soundtrack overall, Murph is such an underrated track.
For fantasy, my suggestion is taking a listen to Thomas Bergersen's album "Seven" particularly "Return to Sender." It is just so beautiful and full of emotion.

I do the instrumental thing, too, but I also listen to music with lyrics that aren't in English, so I can't understand them and start singing along, at least until I get to know them too well For example, Jeremy Dutcher. He sings in his mother's language, Wolastoq (east coast Canada and Maine Indigenous), and he's a mix of classical, traditional Indigenous, synth, and postmodern. Go find him: he's wonderful. I don't know if you can do vocals at all while writing, but until I learned his material too well, it worked for me.

Thanks for the recommendation! I hadn't thought about listening to music with non-English lyrics, but that opens up a whole world of music to listen to while writing.

Thank you so much for providing sources even musical inspiration. Just wondering, what did you use to compose the music on your film? I am trying to do this myself. Any resources?

The soundtrack of Vice by Nicholas Britell, specifically the track, The Lineman In E Flat Minor. It has such a powerful and inspiring feel to it with an iconic melody as well. The entire soundtrack is not talked about enough.

do you have recommendations for finding these? like if I want to write a sad scene, but I don't have any more that I know, how do you find more music related to the scenes pictured?
