  • Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write a great action sequence. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning is a masterclass in writing action-learn the lessons it has to teach, and you can take your action to the next level.
In this video, I dive into what makes the action of Dead Reckoning so compelling, from its stacked layers of action to its use of locations to enhance situations.
In Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than the mission-not even the lives of those he cares about most.

I want to make a movie production studio someday, but as of now, I have none of the resources to do so. So I've been writing my stories as books, and something I always do is play out the scenes or a trailer for the story in my head, and like you said, it helps a LOT (plus it's fun).

Yeah, I see a lot of what I write through a filmmaking lens. Even if I can't make films out of my books, I try to create cinematic moments through words alone.

I've never broken down a film like this before, but it was fun. Are there any other movies or franchises you'd like me to make a video about?

If you've watched Arrival (2016), which seems right up your sci-fi alley, I'd be curious what angle a video from you would approach it from

I haven't seen that yet, but I've heard great things. I'll definitely get around to it one of these days. Blade Runner 2049, also directed by Denis Villeneuve, is one of my favorites.

Good story crafting video! You laid out several important aspects like characterisation, theme, pacing etc. This makes me want to watch that MI movie...
However, I have to critize you. This is not a writing video. If you hadn't said 'Your Publisher will disavow your...' then I would have no idea from the content that your video was for authors/novelist.
If you want to making need to include things like chapter breakdown, sentence structure, sentence length, where to put foreshadowing or scene set-up. It's a lot harder and time consuming to describe all the kicks, punches, point blank shots and that single death shot from the sniper in the group that has been laying in the same position for 12+ hours tracking the shift of the wind, AND make the prose come across as fast, engaging, and flowing.
Anyways, please consider this, and it was an overall very thoughtful and informative.

Spoiler alert 👀 But yes, tragic. Assuming it's not a fake out, that's one of the only issues I have with the film. Felt like too fast and undeserved an exit for the character.
