When you let the artists have fun...
I recently watched Blue Eye Samurai, and I was blown away by its visuals. So here I am, making a video about the artistic side of this series.
0:00 Evolving animation
1:35 Visual depth
4:58 Storytelling through colors
9:23 Stylization
Artistically, there is a lot going on in Blue Eye Samurai. The compositions are incredible, the colors are symbolic, and the overall stylization suggests that the artists had a lot of fun creating them. I feel like since the year of 2018, with beautiful animation like Arcane and Spider-verse, western animation is getting more and more experimental. And the art in Blue Eye Samurai just plays right into that narrative. When you let the artists have fun...the visua...

Hey, guys. This is a quick update from me on the future of this channel. Because of the fear of Studio Ghibli copyright striking my videos (they already send me one) I've decided to delete most of my Studio Ghibli videos. I will keep posting videos as usual, but simply can't risk making Studio Ghibli videos atleast for some time! I hope you guys understand my situation! Thank you.

When I heard that Makoto Shinkai was making a new film, I kinda had a feeling that it was gonna be similar to films like 'Your Name' and 'Weathering with You'. Studio Ghibli is one of the best when it comes to creating immersive worlds. They put so much efffort into all of their environments, be it Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's delivery service, you name it, they are all known for their beautiful worlds. I think it's fair to say that Courage the Cowardly Dog was the gateway into horror for most of us who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s. I haven’t seen most of the studio Ghibli films referenced, so it’s pretty hard to get an idea of the similarity when all the images are blurred :p Is that a censoring thing from RUclips?

No, it was precautionary. I blurred it. I have a video on my channel talking about a copyright strike from Ghibli. So, I went ahead and blurred Ghibli content to prevent further copyright issues.

Imperfect 🤔 - I think the word is misused here. Expressionism is being used as a tool here. Instead of its usual role center stage. The grass is known to be grass - the expression of grass becomes visually poetic. It is in service to the Subject 😅 ironically subject to the subject. With the heavy lifting done in the audiences mind.

As someone who grew up on Samurai Jack, this show really scratched that itch for me. The silent scenes with nothing but the environment noise playing gave me instant flashbacks to great episodes like Jack and the Three Blind Archers. Blue Eyed Samurai really is an incredible series

I binge-watched the entire series last week. The visual quality is on par with Disney as western animation, but I agree that the thematic depth truly stands out here. I appreciate how they balance character development across each episode. Specifically, the representation of Japanese culture during the Shogun era is impressive. The storytelling is also noteworthy, particularly in episode 5, which highlights the theatrical Noh and Onryou aspects, effectively developing Mizu and Akemi's characters throughout the story. I understand this series is for adult, but I feel they sometimes overdo the gore and erotic elements, which make the story not so family friendly. Nevertheless, the main theme of women's equality is handled elegantly without resorting to "woke" nonsense. I like it.

I once read a beautiful book about native americans and their spiritual views. It explained how their religion was individualistic and nature based, they didnt build temples or made it social because they believed you felt the closest to the divine when you encounterd yourself alone surounded by the inmensity of the natural world. It is interesting to see how different cultures aproach religion and connection with their suroundings, western culture tends to objectify and give an utilitarian value to nature wich makes us feel disconected from it. We are animals, we are nature itself.

The best Disney movie with nature has to be the lion king. The colours and the atmosphere are just so beautiful. When Simba was looking at his reflection there was silent water and noisy crickets in the background. Also the backgrounds are breathtaking. The places like the savannah, the jungle and ao on feel so alive. Give me more movies like the lion king Disney!

You forgot to dig a little more on the world building. These guys definitely were inspired by Brazilian artist Léo (Luiz Eduardo de Oliveira) and his comic series Worlds of Aldebaran. I didn’t know about this at first, but since I became a fan of this, I had to do more research and found in Reddit about this artist. Many of the plants and animals depicted in Scavengers Reign are nearly identical. The creators really did a great job adding their influences (including the line drawing style of Moebius). It thankfully got picked up by Netflix nd we’re hoping more people see it to get the second season it deserves.

The biggest thing is the drive of honest nuetrality. Other movies always try to have more grand plots and net positive goals such as defeat the bad guys. Thus any time there's nature in a scene it's always to help push that net positive or negativve emotion (Which is perfectly find to do) however ghibli puts the focus entirely on the nature itself as a pure nuetral scene. It's also what makes totoro so nastolgic. They don't have a huge complicated life or emotions or a net positive goal such as taking over another thing thats bad. It's about kids trying to restore balence to their life and just be kidss, not anyone else. It makes things honest direct and nestolgic when we could just be hoinestyly kdis

15:25 Here's your problem: you think 'villain' and 'antagonist' are synonyms, but they are not. A villain is somebody who does bad things - breaks the law, kills puppies, jaywalks, that sorta things. An antagonist is somebody who opposes the protagonist. While they sometimes overlap but in movies like Megamind, where the protagonist is the bad guy, they don't.
