As someone who grew up on Samurai Jack, this show really scratched that itch for me. The silent scenes with nothing but the environment noise playing gave me instant flashbacks to great episodes like Jack and the Three Blind Archers. Blue Eyed Samurai really is an incredible series
amazing as always! I loved your observations on the leading lines. something for me to think about as an artist. this series has me on a CHOKEHOLD, so I deeply appreciate your smart takes 💙
I binge-watched the entire series last week. The visual quality is on par with Disney as western animation, but I agree that the thematic depth truly stands out here. I appreciate how they balance character development across each episode. Specifically, the representation of Japanese culture during the Shogun era is impressive. The storytelling is also noteworthy, particularly in episode 5, which highlights the theatrical Noh and Onryou aspects, effectively developing Mizu and Akemi's characters throughout the story. I understand this series is for adult, but I feel they sometimes overdo the gore and erotic elements, which make the story not so family friendly. Nevertheless, the main theme of women's equality is handled elegantly without resorting to "woke" nonsense. I like it.
Imperfect 🤔 - I think the word is misused here. Expressionism is being used as a tool here. Instead of its usual role center stage. The grass is known to be grass - the expression of grass becomes visually poetic. It is in service to the Subject 😅 ironically subject to the subject. With the heavy lifting done in the audiences mind.
Do you think western animation is making a comeback?
Not Disney
@@Zac_Cole Haha, that is true!😂

Yes, both are very expressive from an artistic point of view also!
Great analysis of the visual design of blue eyed samurai! Made me want to re-watch it with a new perspective :)
Thank you so much! Appreciate it!

Yes, that balance of story and art is the best formula!
Wooo I knew it was BES!
12:36 animation is short from what show?
That would be Demon Slayer.
