Swarm Trap the Greatest Tool for Beekeepers | Using a swarm trap to supplement your Hives
Awesome. But I really was hoping you would specifically point out a couple spots of bee bread as you were zoomed in and discussing how it looks. 🤞
Earwigs TOTALLY eat bee bread, so yes they do, cause damage.
I work in a meat dept. Its cool temp wise. One thing I have noticed is I almost never have a bee fly in when the outer door is opened. Now honey bees are not attracted to meat but yellow jackets sure are, there are lots of them outside around the disposal bins and carts meat has been on. But in 2 years I have only had one bee fly in. Why? Can they see the temp difference? Fly's come in and in a couple of minutes they are to cold to fly anymore, so they cannot see the temperature difference I am guessing. But what about the bee's?
Honey bees don’t like cooler temperatures. Wasps don’t seem to mind and are opportunistic when it comes to free meat as they’re carnivorous. Honey bees aren’t. They stick to honey and bee bread.
Where do you get the hive stands from. Great video.
Thank you! We made them.
Not a small hive beetle.
This is so cute!! Thank you ❤❤
What is good 😊?
I know that it's been three years since you made the hive, and it's an interesting hive. The legs, 0in my opinion, should support the hive from under the hive and not just on the side. I created a similar plain box for plants and found that when it was full that the legs sheared away from. the sides. I had to fit an additional 2 x 4 to each leg to support the actual box. I don't have a bee hive as yet, but it may be something I plan to do for 2025. I would also look at building one and not buying one as it has the advantage of customising it to my thoughts. Great job.
Thank you for the thoughts. That’s something we might consider if we make another one.
How many in between the chain 2 hole
Why do we have such a narrow field of view. It would be nice if you held the phone horizontal.
Noted. Thanks! If you look at some of our other videos, we learned our lesson.
@@RascalApiary DANG! That was fast. Ha!
The artwork looks cool.
Thanks!
Great information and close-ups, including things/precautions many don’t think to advise about. Thank yoy!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Even with the camera a little further away I has so much of an easier time with your video. All the others made it seem so complicated. I am a bee keeper too and my granddaughter is having a bee birthday party (she is one) and I thought a honeycomb blanket would be perfect.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy making it
Hey, once your renovations to your house are done, I hope you keep posting. I found you by searching on inner covers because that is not a topic people talk about, I live in Tampa FL. I put the inner cover upside down on my top feeder for 1:1 sugar syrup. Came back to refill and about 1000 bees drowned as they got into the top of the syrup....I will never make that mistake again. Then, I learned a lot more, it is hot here, and water source is a mile away....
Thank you! That’s so nice.
organs?
I use the same bottles for mead
You forgot to smoke the front of the hive before opening the top; you also didn't smoke under the lid before removing the top.
While it is a common practice, we have found it is not needed with every hive. Each hive has its own temperament.
What’s a stant? 🤷🐝
Stand. Excuse the accent. Something to hold the bottles while filling.
Was helpful😊
Thank you for watching!
Dude. Say it with me. NU CLEE US! LMAO! :)
Why did you say that bad word
Thank you for this video because I have a crazy bee that chases me and my buddy when I ride my forwiler
After two years how is the hive working for you?
It worked great while we had it. We’ve since moved and had to sell all our hives. I can definitely see us building another when we get bees again at our new house.
it's that interior or exterior paint?
The majority is exterior, but for the hives that have interior paint on them, we did a coat of exterior polyurethane as well.
11:31 love it!!! Thanks for the authenticity!
Thanks for that! It was a burning question my crew had the other night at bedtime and we had to put on the Google later list 😂
Those beeyle blasters arent reusable? (Near-future-beekeeper not currently yet)
There are different types that are reusable. We have used those, but they didn’t work as well for us. The ones we’re showing are not reusable, but worked much better for us.
What size of wick do you use in those molds
Thanks for the great information. I wush to start bee keeping in my backyard in the near future if the neighbours and the council agree.
What is the working principle of these frames
It causes less stress to the bees during honey collection.
I’m a writer and really wanted to add a small bee farm, thanks for the info!
Do you leave any for the bees?
Always! You have to if you’re going to have healthy and happy bees. You should take primary the old comb or any that they build in odd places that you as a beekeeper wouldn’t want comb.
I personally love it. I’d recommend Samu Manuka’s 850 mgo/ 20+ UMF Honey since they’re UMF accredited. Plus they have the most competitive prices on the market. I took it when I had Covid and it healed my sore throat in less than 48 hours.

How to get Bee queen not to run away after taking out the honey
As long as you don’t take too much and she’s not on any of the frames you pull, you should be fine. Typically the queen won’t be on any honey frames anyway.
Looking Good
Looks like you should remove entrance reducer on a warm day and clean the bottom boards on the other hives with a ream stick or you may have more loss. Weak hives don't have much a chance to over winter. Looks like some winter feeding could have helped. A weight check without opening hive could have helped know condition of resources.
Hi guys! I just wanted you to know that you are literally my favorite bee channel. I'm about to start my beekeeping journey, so I'm watching tons of videos. And I have to tell you, yours are my favorites. I keep going back to them because they're clear, concise and full of info. I noticed you haven't posted in a few years and hope your move went well. I'll keep checking on the channel to see if you upload more. Peace!
Hi! Have you had any issues with insects being attracted to your beeswax candles? What precautions do you take against this?
Sorry, but we haven’t had any issues with this. We do keep candles that aren’t in use and pure beeswax in a plastic bin in temperature control (house or shed).
Thank you so much.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
The Nico system is a bad system. If you get 30 percent it's a joke. Or you are doing something wrong.
Dude, you made a queen your first time out. Right on.
Thank you 🐝
Thank you 🐝
I thought about to have a wooden wall least 1meter before the the entrance as they fly very fadt out and in 35km/hour and if theres a road with people ke walking its not so nice neither fir the bees or the walking people to do that impact. If thwre us a hight wall the bees quickly kearn to go up first and theres no oroblem.
Loved your vid, especially the close ups! I lost all 5 hives in early Oct, a big surprise, as they seemed fine in late Sept, and I had treated them 2ce in the year for varroa - with Formic Pro. I’d be interested in why you seem to have some doubts about FPro.
