Oh wonderful, you have a Flow Hive! I too have one--a Flow Hive 2, The bees loved those frames. Boy they went to work fast. Its great to know that you knew do open the frames 1/3 at a time. Its so important becuase if you open the entire frame at once, more than likely you going to get honey spilling inside. Great video
@@RascalApiary I modified my Flow Hive using two deep boxes which now hold frames that are the standard 19" wide, yet the depth is now 18.5". It's more like comb found in nature and I truly believe it has a huge impact on the bees health. Can't answer why, I just know. My bees were also purchase from a guy that only raised feral, small cell bee. So far, Zero Varroa mites and Zero SHBs.
@@davidlopata7532 We have a mix of equipment at our apiary since we like to try out different things. We do like the Flow Hive, but a lot of people don’t think they need to inspect if they get one. It’s worked well for us though!
We just got our first hive last month. Once we get established and learn the basics, I'm pretty sure we'll be getting a flow hive super. I've wanted a flow hive since they came out! I remember their Kickstarter! Omg! They've come a long way! Very cool! And great video btw! We just started a channel but I'm having trouble finding a good FREE editing program... I have a bunch of content I still haven't uploaded ugh... Oh well... SMH
Welcome to the exciting world of beekeeping! Thank you for the nice words. It’s smart to get the basics down first for sure. Mike first started with the Davinci Resolve free edition. There is also a paid version that he got for Christmas and uses now, but the free edition is a good start. It took some getting used to though. Good luck with your channel!
@@RascalApiary well thank you! We're very excited! And, turns out, I need to get a new computer... Mine is running Windows 8.1 from 2013! Yikes! I can't even run Davinci... Ugh lol

Yes! We read all about it before we started “extracting”. We have a mix of hives. We also have a Warre and long Langstroth style. Thanks!

We are looking forward to you two coming to visit our Apiary this weekend. Hopefully I can harvest some honey. Have lots of clients waiting.
We are ready too! Bring on the honey! 🐝
Is that a real flow hive and if so what generation? If it's not a flow where did you get it
Yes it is. We purchase this one and a hybrid from the official Flow Hive website in the fall of 2016 in preparation for the following season.
@@RascalApiary thank you! I've been looking at them, but don't have the cash for them right now.

They’re definitely expensive. It might be worth it if you only have one hive and no easy access to an extractor.
@@RascalApiary I have 2 hives and would like to try it on one of them. I've been thinking about getting one from Amazon, but the reviews are mixed.

@@OverkillRanch We had to get a new one too. We had a laptop, but it just wasn’t cutting it after we decided to really go for it.
