    Enjoyed your review. Doesn't Kirk say that Bailey will return to Starfleet as a more experienced officer? Kirk (from my memory) says "....and I'll be getting a more experienced officer".

      You're absolutely right. To me it came across as a little too open ended. We've never seen the First Federation since so I've always taken it that Bailey's placement was an extended one. In any case I still find it strange that Bailey is so open to the idea after everything we'd seen before.

    This episode does give the full Shatner range (which I love). Guilty of all the things people accuse him of like the hammy overacting, being an invincible hero whilst also giving that lingering look at the end that completely knocks it out of the park. I really enjoyed that you highlighted this. It's like the look of someone who is only smiling ostensibly but is in a far darker place inside their head

    I like this episode (probably mostly teen me LOVING Dr. Noel), but you do have a good point about the lack of a motivation from the head of the facility. Was this a case of power corrupting; did this guy have a chance to become a king on his little colony, and took it? Or was he trying to prove his theories about the nature of the human mind (like imagine he was putting people in that chair, giving them new memories and personalities and then observing how they reacted)? Nope, just some creep with a brainwash chair.

    Quite hateful that during his 'speech', the challenge to suspected voter fraud was cast as a problem leading to war, and that during the apparent nuking, top of his list of victims were animal species. Perhaps this series should have been called Woke Trek. Needless to say, despite it attracting my attention for a moment, I won't be watching any more.

    What Iis the problem with the romulans? They never reveal their dislike of the federation. Sneaky and duplicitous and not to be trusted ever. Thr klingons are now understood. The character of Worf in r DS9 is thr key to understanding the klingons.

    I also was never impressed by the J. It just looks like they were trying too hard to make it look ultrafuturistic. Now that we've gone through the F and G within the span of a single season of Picard, we're only two letters away from the J. If the G, H and I each last a century, which would be an eternity for any Federation vessel, we'll be at minimum 300 to 400 years away from seeing the J. Also, after seeing Enterprises that were prototypes, refits, renamings of other vessels, and original vessels of another ship's class, I'm hoping the H or I will give us something we've never seen before: thr first Enterprise-class Enterprise.

    Finally got around to watching the finale. I didn’t mind it but, unlike you I wasn’t keen on the passing the buck of the tech to some other mysterious race. It felt like a way to placate religious groups to be able to go…. “Ah but MAYBE this was god” Was a bit Lord of the Rings like with its multiple endings but still by far one of the more satisfying season finales from discovery which often dropped the ball even from seasons I liked at the last min.

  • @chess2bell
    @chess2bell Месяц назад

    Yeah, it's not the best... My feeling is that they didn't really care about the mystery of the duplicate Earth concept but rather they just wanted to have an episode with a creepy Earth setting! And it's nice to see Michael Pollard. If you haven't seen him in Hannibal Brooks, I totally recommend it. Great little film and his character is hilarious, bonkers and a real highlight!

    • @TREKLAD
      @TREKLAD Месяц назад

      From my research it looks like the duplicate Earth idea was a device the show was going to use to explain away why every other adventure was taking place in a familiar setting. Maybe it's just my modern brain that would expect this to get answered at some point. I've not seen Pollard in anything other than the '67 Bonnie & Clyde. I'll add it to my watchlist. Assuming I can find any time beyond watching and reviewing Star Trek, of course.

    I believe that the character of Burnham was strong at first, but fell way short at the end of season 3.i also agree that after season 3 it becomes a totally different show, loosing a lot of the adventure that is Star Trek. I might be the only one who thinks this but, I HATE the uniforms for this show. It seems to me that if Starfleet was/is an organization of exploration, why are your uniforms that of a military organization? (at least that is what I perceive) I would have went with a variation of Enterprise's uniforms, or the black/gray ones from NG/ DS9 era. And I watched "Calypso" and liked it( big fan of Aldis Hodge) but did a lot more to connect it to the show, made it more of a sub plot, making more references about it throughout the season right after Burnham receives the vision. Overall didn't hate it, but didn't love it, but it is Star Trek 🙃

    I know I watched some episodes of Star Trek shows when I was a kid. Not full seasons but episode here and there. I'm not a trekie so I don't know all the stuff but I enjoyed ST Discovery as a show. Red Angel arc/season is probably my favourite one but now that show is over I have no desire to rewatch it anytime soon. Again I'm not a trekie it was just something to pass the time but I think show had great cast. Cringey moments yeah but I enjoyed it.And I think it had a good finale. I would even say great but there's nothing to compare it too.

    I absolutely hate what they did with Discovery/Zora: they gave us time traveling Kovitch so they could justify this as "preserving the Federation." I kinda remember Calypso, but pretty sure the ending wasn't that guy driving Discovery back to his people saying "we can rebuild the Commonwealth....I mean Federation!" So they made an intelligent being live out a millennia alone because it's supposed to happen? Can you imagine some admiral shows up and says to Picard: "You need to dump Mr. Data alone in deep space at these coordinates; I can't tell you why but you must comply. It will save the Federation, someday." Pretty sure we get Insurrection II out of that. Or Janeway with the Doctor. Also, who is Kovich working for? Daniels was a 31st century temporal agent; so what's his gig now? He saved the sacred...i mean Prime timeline from time travel shenanigans, and they say all that time stuff is illegal in the 32nd century, and it's implied Kovich is apparently once again making the timeline safe for something (he is sending a member of the Discovery crew into exile apparently to save the future; despite having numerous time travel methods at his disposal.) So what does his sending Discovery against the 10-C, having them solve the Burn, and then go after the Progenitor Tech have to do with all that? Or was he forging Burnham into the person who would forgo the Tech because she values the way things are, rather than could be? I kinda wanted to see Agent Moll at some point; more sophisticated with better hair and Makeup. Or say Doctor Kovich was going to meet Burham, and it's Moll with a new look and big glasses! Did Michael kill a progenitor? All these people online think that was an AI hologram, but she is in her own time, communicating with Burnham in hers (which is some great magic sci-fi there), but if she's linked to the device, didn't sending it away destroy her?
