It's an awesome episode of TOS 😀
Oh, what an enterprising classic!
Scared me. Someone w powers like that could wreak havoc.
Loved it! Shatner is an acting GOD!
Interesting note Gary Lockwood starred in gene roddenberry's first show The Lieutenant the show would feature guest stars such as Leonard Nimoy Walter konik and Michelle Nichols
Gary Lockwood's Mitchell is possibly my favourite guest actor performance on Star Trek ever. He absolutely nails it and it's so memorable. Creepy, dark, philosophical and his voice and expressions just create a fantastic atmosphere full of tension, intrigue and menace. Loving your reviews of the classic TOS episodes. More please :)
I like Lockwood, but he's too openly flirty with female subordinates.
I love how Spok's first reaction was to kill the crewmember.
It seems to be his default response when anything goes horribly wrong🤣
Then we have the inevitable fight between mighty gods wich is satisfactory to say the least.
As for the epic time warp maneuver wouldn't that revive all the of perished crew members or maybe it did?
I heard a radio show this last Friday. It was about a submarine called the valiant that picked up a survivor from an island who had crashed there after a Violet tornado I didn't hear the rest of the radio story but is this the same one? The valiant ship that picked up the survivor was British. If anyone knows any about this radio story checking out.
Ooohh they had The Cage era uniforms in this one...
5 stars!
Even in Shatner's first appearance as Kirk here, he *nails* it. I can see why NBC execs were pleased. So much energy, charisma while being stern and demonstrating the burdens of command. Shows how incredibly *miscast* Paul Wesley is as Jim Kirk.
Indeed. Wesley wisely doesn’t try to do a Shatner impersonation. But he doesn’t have the presence as an actor to convince you he’s a leader. He also doesn’t show any of the charm or personality we expect of Kirk.
Interesting enough William Shatner was Gene Roddenberry second choice to play Captain Kirk Gene roddenberry's first choice believe it or not was Jack Lord but he demanded 50% ownership of the show before he even agreed to take the part
@@JohnAnderson-jy2js Hawaii 5 Trek
@@JohnAnderson-jy2js 3rd choice Lloyd Bridges was offered the role 1st but had a bad experience with sci-fi & refused.
@@peanut1001x no try doing some research Lloyd Bridges was Gene roddenberry's original choice to play Captain Pike when he turned Gene down he moved on to Jeffrey Hunter Lloyd Bridges was the first choice for captain pike and William shatner was the second choice to play Captain Kirk
If you see the episode in full. Watch out for the part when Garry Mitchell makes a grave for Kirk. Read the tombstone:
James R Kirk
1277:1 1313:7
I thought it was James T Kirk?
Things do change in tv series, especially in older series. I believe the R. Is a carryover from what was Christopher Pikes middle initial in pitches
One of my favorite episodes
loved this ep
One of the great episodes of anything of all time. In Sci Fi. lol
One of the best of episodes in StarTrek. Better then the cage because its sets the tone of the unknown. The cage was great but it did not fit into the 1960s understanding of the unknow, new tech the space race, this episode fit much better into that. The cage would have been better in the 1970s as a ploit. I wish the kept the sets and uniforms for the series. They just looked better. The sets and uniforms after this ploit made the show look cheap. Plus they should have kept the dark tone in the series, were no man has gone before should have been the tone for the series.
Star trek was scary. This like watching the twilight zone.
5 stars out of 5
Could Gary Mitchell still be alive? Buried under rubble all these years?
he would’ve made a better protagonist than Khan or another one in reboot
they don't have time for a long drawn out waiting phase in an hour, stupid review
Robes Pierre and Carl Marx would be proud. The episode is based on envy based morality. Kirk could have left them on the planet. Didnt he leave khan and his violent group on an abandoned planet. They would be a threat to no one. The horta killed crew men kirk don't mind that. Instead kirk uses vigilanty justice prouncing the death penalty for both of them simply because the are superior. Were they inferior he would has kissed their butts. That's the nature of leftist value structure. If a vigilanty comes to kill you you do have the right to defend yourself. Very poorly done. Kirk definitely doesn't have the moral ground.
What does vigilante justice have to do with this, pray tell? Left them there? How long do you think these powerful beings would stay there? The dude already declared his intentions and none of it was good for mankind. He already showed how little he cared about mankind and what harm he could do and would do. Those types are always dangerous because they won't leave you in peace...their only mission to absolutely rule and destroy any who don't agree.
@2EKgn16 they would have got off that planet easy. Gary was creating fruit with his mind. He easily could have created a rocket ship and go to inhabited planets and destroy all life.
@2EKgn16 the guy also strangled one of the crewmen to death
@hggfhh4449 a crewmen that was participating in his execution, no trial by jury. What would the charges even be? Being superior? That's called self defense, that's moral and legal. Not to mention that he didn't lay a hand on the crewmen. Is this a modern version of the Salem Witch trials accusing people of having superhuman powers then executing them. He knew that kirk and Spock wanted to kill him, it seems abandoning him was not enough, so what sould a legitimate reaction. Welcoming to being murdered for being superior?
