To be honest, I think they exaggerated how aggressive younger Burnham was to make it seem like older Burnham had grown more than she has.

Also, I feel that they give Airiam more character development in this episode than the whole first two seasons of Discovery.

It's pretty funny watching Stammets w no audio in your above video... He looks like he comedic relief and it's not intentional.

8/10 Definitely liked this one. As my viewing of Discovery has been a bit sporadic in past seasons, many scenes from the past were a bit confusing for me, but that's not the show's fault! Very fine episode. Particularly liked the Raynor-Burnham relationship; they're forced to collaborate here. Bodes well for the future (hopefully).

I think this WAS the tie up with Calypso. Calypso is where the ship would have ended up in the timeline where Burnham didn’t do the time jumping and seen the abandoned Discovery. Now she’s see that, obviously she’ll avoid that fate of the ship and the calypso timeline.
In other stuff I too was disappoint not to get a cameo from Lorca.

Good theory, but doesn't quite work as the Discovery seen in Calypso was the original ship design, not the one we have now with the float-y nacelles and doorless shuttlebay.

@@TREKLAD hmmm good point… errr… maybe the ship suddenly needed a retro-fit back to its old standard for… reasons. 😄

The purpose of the episode was to justify Discovery's friendships between the crew. It was these relationships that saved the ship because the old crew could trust the new. This proves that Raynor's strict discipline was wrong. Unfortunately, this is just a straw man argument. After all, we went through STP3 with 3 separate scenes of characters trying to determine if others are clones based on their history and friendships with each other. The point of Amok Time is to show that Spock and Kirk were friends.
Friendship is not the problem. It is the ridiculous soap opera and emotional mush that is Discovery. It is Burnhams' constant crying. The terrible, sappy narration. The lack of subtext. The constant exposition of how we all need to connect to each other.

Star Trek Discovery? You mean Star Trek Michael Burnham. The entire series revolves around this only character. It makes it almost unwatchable.

Yes, I agree here... the points most people make about the other characters seeming to be just side pieces is correct... I barely know their names. And the constant calling her Jesus too has me just thinking the same... she loves herself far too much.

I mean TOS is basically the Captain Kirk show. It wasn't until TNG that Star Trek focused on more of an ensemble.

@@friendlyotaku9525 Tell me you haven't really watched TOS without telling me...
TOS was made during an era where Cowboys and Cops were the typical fodder for entertainment.
Kirk had to be a leading man as per the network. That said, Kirk ALWAYS followed Starfleet's orders and usually sacrificed something of himself just before the credits rolled.
While TOS was great for the time it was made, Kirk was presented as lonely and who needed his friends, Spock & Bones to help him find the answer.
Michael Burnham is always right. Even when she's wrong, the writers move the goal posts and make her right anyway.
There's NO time in the series where she actually pays for her actions as her actions are perfect, each & every time. She got her captain killed? She's an officer 2 weeks later. She started the Klingon War? We don't "mention her name" for... reasons LOLOLOL
There is no growth with Burnham because she cannot be more perfect than she already is.

THIS is a classic Star Trek episode and I adored it. It was so much fun! Good stuff. Honestly Sean Cochran should write more Star Trek, he clearly loves and understands it!

It was better than the rest for sure, but I just cannot, and just hear me out here, enjoy the show for all the other flaws... and it might be superficial but I find nearly all the characters just so unattractive. It's like the show folks said we don't want traditional actors and everyone looks flawed... it's okay to a point but everyone? Even the new villains are just so bad -- the male character is weak and pathetic, and the woman looks like she's done too many drugs. It's too much.
