i don't think being a muse to anyone is a flex. as an artist who has had her fair share of muses (though I've never been one myself), its more or less the fantasy or idea of the person you admire rather than them. at first, they seem like a wonderful and beautiful person, then once the fantasy wears off you no longer feel the same. you realise they're not special - they're just like everyone else. thus the fantasy is gone. in reality, you're far more in love with your own imagination than anything else. instead of realising this, the muse continues to be a distraction to what you're actually in love with. its also a derealisation process in many ways. thats not to mention in some extreme cases, you're channeling your self worth through someone else, which is NEVER a healthy thing to do. pedestalising anyone to the degree where they have that much power is unhealthy. which is why its so important to become your own muse, especially as an artist - fall deeply in love with yourself first, so you can love others just as deeply.

You are completely right about how our culture buys products to cover up our beauty. I will say however, that even if you as a black woman love your phenotype, we aren’t always able to work around folks that accept our hair. Getting correct quality hair care for our own hair isn’t always available. Think of celebrities who must wear wigs because stylists on movie and tv sets don’t do black hair right. Ok, let me try to clear this up for you all. At least 80% of the so called "blacks" in the US are of multi-mixed ancestry. Most American blacks have Caucasian/Asian/Native American/Hispanic/Jewish DNA inside them. It's the One Drop Rule that determined most were black back in the day. And like it or not, but that ODR type of mentality persists to this day. Most mixed race blacks ARE blacks in the eyes of every other race aside from blacks themselves. And a lot of blacks will see mixed race blacks as black people. It's just the extremely prejudiced ones that don't. But IF a mixed-race black is biased against black people, then they need to try to get with the people they identify with the most. Just don't go running back to blacks if they get that N-word wake up call.

I also have experienced being called Oreo, wannabe white etc It became a constant criticism from black people so much that most of my friends are white. Some of my family harassed me for having so many white friends but when I hang around them they don't sit there and tease and harass me. So I am more comfortable with them than black people who tend to tease and bully me..I don't care anymore because I have dealt with this all my life and I refuse to hang around mean hateful people just because we're the same race

@@c0deinebrxt why are you dating a white guy though? I mean given the state of race relations in America it's a good question. And your family knows you, perhaps better than you know yourself, so maybe there's something to what they say.

@@Dentsun4228probably because said white guy is an individual and so is she? them being in an interracial relationship doesn’t automatically mean there is something wrong with their dynamic. two individuals from different races can be in a loving healthy relationship, even in america. also saying her family knows her more than herself so there’s automatically some truth to what they said is crazy. you don’t know her or her family. stop rage-baiting and invalidating her story when her family clearly has very little regard for her multicultural identity and they’re just as ignorant as you.

@@divinebeaute yes, it is entirely possible for people of different races to fall in love w each other. no question about that. that said, its valid to ask "why a white guy?" there's men of aa, asian, hispanic, arab, african, caribbean origins all over america. the only guy she could find just happens to be white? especially when you consider the power dynamics of race in america, there should always be some question about what is the true basis of the attraction. and if i were you, i would never dismiss the family as "ignorant." the family is the unit that raised her. they love her. they know her far better than you and me. if they have concerns about the relationship, they have a right and responsiblity to express their concerns. if i were the white guy, i would never want to be in a relationship with a bw whose family didnt accept me. those relationships are doomed to an ugly death.

I’m multi-generational mixed. To the world I’m black, to the black community I’m not black enough, and when I claim my blackness I’m told to be quiet, yet if I don’t claim my blackness I’m told that I’m ashamed of my roots. I literally can’t win so I’ve given up… I’m just me. To all my black and multiracial queens, I love yall. I stand with yall no matter what. Btw… I love this video so much. Thank you for speaking on it.

I gave up too😌 This is exactly what I’m talking about. Been going through this since a child. And it happens especially with MGMs bc we don’t have a parent that’s not partially Black so we are thrown in and quickly out of Blackness constantly. Happy this resonates with you✨💗

I hate people with this mentality. Trying to erase the original black image of black people. You are not black you are multiracial. Claim the other race. Leave black people alone. Stop targeting us because you see us as the weaker race and easier to manipulate. Claim the other races.

Talk to the GOVERNMENT about your discomfort. They makeup the rules about racial indentity not black Americans! The fact that exoticals are making channels and creating commentary usually involving them attempting to "beef" with black Americans is interesting. Why the obsession with us, don't you have other business to attend to? In case you do not know, most us don't care how you define yourself; bi-racial or whatever. Actually, many of us currently support this kind of racial identity creation on the U.S. census. In some states it is already there. Lastly, if you didn't like the company at the party or even the games they played why attend? I am sure no one would loss any sleep if you weren't there.

This topic was deep and very nice hearing your feelings and perspective. Some people are just mean and hateful. It does show that they need to let go of old ideas. It’s so nice that those who get it, do not feed into the negativity. Culturally, the community has a lot of work to do. But people like the woman at the party will just have to be left behind.
