Parker Finn already confirmed Voss Water wasn't a partner and it wasn't product placement. He wrote the whole chugging water thing before any brand was picked and the only reason he chose Voss is because the bottles look fancy and like something a rich popstar would have, and because the bottles are glass and he wrote a scene where it needed to shatter

Thank God I found your channel. Everyone's saying this movie is amazing and important, but even the start and end feel like an amateur's attempt to tell a story. The beginning was a red flag for me, and I was right. The effects and sound aren't enough to make it a good movie. The huge plot hole with Dimie not living through her younger version is completely illogical, especially when that's what the substance is supposed to do. The movie is empty, with no character development and unnecessary gore.

Sue enjoys the "male gaze" to a pretty excessive extent. To the point that it is all that defines her and she would do anything for it. It feels like a parody of itself, the whole thing. The gore did not shock me one bit, because we have seen so many of these things at this point. It is not shocking at all, like come on, this is not 1970. 2/5, not a good film, aside from novelty of this exact plot being new.

Wasn’t a fan of the first Smile, thought it was too gimmicky and not that scary in my opinion. Interested in seeing this one still to see what it does different from the first one and if it’s a better movie.

I definitely and absolutely love smile 2, I saw the movie yesterday. I just loved it. and of course I love the first movie too. when you combine the 2 movies together, you can learn about the world of smile in so many different prespectives. (both Rose and Skye) they both share similarities and differences, and that what beautiful about it

Finally a review that captures the problems I had with it. I saw it last night and I kept thinking of Titane which was uncomfortable to watch but had emotionally rich characters and executed the grotesque characterisations masterfully. Don't get me wrong, I loved the cinematography, sound design and ironically appreciated the male performances. The script did the women in this movie a great injustice

I don't recommend this stuff for anyone but I am intrigued nevertheless. Scary stuff can be interesting, how they pull it off for example. But I'll just focus on Christmas instead and ignore anything of this nature except for a select few real life paranormal shows out there. At least they try and clear the evil instead of revel in it and saturate the consciousness of their viewers with it. Interesting review, have a good day everyone.

Good to see a modest solid collection. Too many people with massive shelves full of filler. Absolutely spot on with Thief, one of the best films of all time. Robert Prosky's monologue is absolutely ruthless.

checked out of this franchise after the saw scene in the first one. I hate the content, but have massive respect for Leone when I hear him interviewed. Love what he's trying to do, even if it's not for me. It is also interesting to hear the comparisons between Terrifier and Joker as thought "Indie beat Hollywood". Really? Because from what I've heard, Joker may have Hollywood money behind it, but it is absolutely NOT a Hollywood film. It is a Phillips and Phoenix film. They seem to have complete control on that one. Also, Joker made like 9 times what Terrifier did. It bombed because it's budget was insane, not because less people went to see it. The reason Hollywood doesn't support creators is because their movies traditionally don't do as well. I mean Hemsworth's salary for Transformers was more than Terrifier's entire budget. Why is that? Because Thor 3 made almost $800 million dollars, even though it kinda sucked. I am happy for Terrifier, but it's lightning in a bottle. Sadly, it is not a reliable bet. Big names and recognizable brands is what cleans up at the box office, so that is what they bet on.

Yes, I agree the message of the movie is shallow. Everyone is raving about The Substance but I believe the norwegian movie Sick of Myself is far more interesting in it's social commentary

Cautionary tale INDEED. As a Mom with two Daughters that grew up in the age of lip injections, botched BBLs, out-of-the-country body modifications, etc (and now watching some of those same bodies deteriorate, or Women now going back to have what that can removed for declining health reasons) THIS WAS AWESOME. Message: The Substance is not in a vial. The real Substance is what you think o yourself.

I agree. Spoilers: it doesn’t make sense. Are they to different persons or not. She wants to take revenge on her younger self, by eating a lot. But why go back in her younger body. You’re punishing yourself. Or you’re just a different person. But than it still doesn’t make sense. And everything felt like a one dimensional cartoon. Which made it very predictable, a side from being kind of people hating (woman and men a like). If the classmate was somewhat charming but a little bit odd. It would make it more tragic when she doesn’t go with him. But he also looks insane and his dialogue is just one dimensional admiration. The Creepy neighbor was also one note. Pretty much everything was one note. It looks good. It has stylistic elements in common with requiem for a dream and I like that. But emotionally it didn’t do anything for me. I don’t really get the hype. I really like good horror movies, and I was hoping this would make an impact like the badadook, but I thought it was a very shallow predictable movie, that wasn’t funny enough to make the stereotypes work, because they lack any humanity.

The short story by Kit Reed, "The New You," explores the same theme as The Substance but better. Like with many modern films by writer/directors, The Substance goes on for too long and lacks restraint for no real reason. Most of the movie works well -- nice choice to be visually inspired by the Shining, great casting/acting, excellent restrained sequences like the weathered Walk of Fame star and Elisabeth struggling to prepare for a date -- but the movie needed other voices to help refine/edit, especially the last half hour.

I’m right there with you. I thought that she knew when she was in her new younger body but in the movie it makes it seem like they are two different people so why would the older Demi Moore ever switch bodies?

I was disappointed. This film was so overhyped that it could never deliver on the promise.
