Cor Canish PLUS | The beginning of an Adventure
The core human dilemma is the wish that the world were not a place of gnashing teeth and suffering. And by the world I don't just mean human society - I mean nature, the universe, the lot of it. Because what we're really confronted with is the possibility that existence is inherently violent, from the bottom up. And perhaps it could be no other way - for there to be something rather than nothing is a fundamentally violent state of affairs. And that's not such an easy pill to swallow for a being with an ego, an identity, a sense of attachment, the capacity to suffer, and of course, enough awareness to dwell on and feel fear about it. There's an interesting idea - you see it in Hinduism with the duality of Shiva and Kali, or the likes of Jung when he supposed that Christ and Antichrist were two psychological halves of a joined concept of God - that being the idea that God, or existence, is both of those poles - creator and destroyer. In which case we truly are made in his image!
Interesting video. You've done a good job of presenting the historical context in digestible form. I'll be curious to see where you go with it in the next video - in particular whether you try to wrap it up with a "moral of the story" - which is always the dilemma.
Greatest yapper of all time. I will be subscribing to you patreon.
Also its infuriating that your basically forced to censor so many words, terms, and names so as not to piss off the capitalist machine. Heaven forbid people talk about major world events! Theres profit to be made! We cant let those pesky indigenous groups go ungenocided now, can we?
2:10 crazy how, for as long as can be remembered, the land was known by the same name. Then 70~ years ago its all stolen and the people living there are "allowed to keep" a fraction of it (with chunks and corners cut off regularly for decades). But yeah, the locals being forced into abject poverty and shot at for fun are the REAL bad guys. 🙄
Did you squeeze a history of Palestine into a fallout video? Smart person. 😃
Man just started an archeology lesson in the middle of a video about comparing the current state of global politics to Bethesda games. I don't know if I've ever subbed to anyone so quickly!
Your take on Israel is objectively wrong.
lol, sure
aaaaaa, Cor's back tell your kids, tell your wife ty for another ep
Spear is an underrated skill for mages and other squishy characters. It lets you build endurance without getting loaded down with heavy or medium armor; in fact, spears tend to weigh less than other two-handed weapons with similar damage output. Spears keep melee enemies at a distance, and depending on the version/patch, an animation quirk causes Argonian males to run faster while brandishing a spear. You can get basic spear proficiency in the Balmora Fighters' Guild basement where you met Hasphat Antabolis-- you might have to join the guild, I don't remember, but it's worthwhile even if you don't do any of their quests, because most of the supply chest contents are useful for you and the rest can be sold on the spot.
While having named characters populating dungeons and ruins is a great detail, I must admit I've grown to like having some places filling up again after some time. Immersion-wise, it can be justified by new bandits, smugglers or even creatures settling in a strategic or nice location. He has found the Cuuube! To think this inconspicuous little cube is part of literally the 2nd quest of the main storyline. Easy to miss, tucked away on a shelf just like that, in a room below the entrance. That's one of the time where questmarkers would actually come in handy. Or they could've made a bit more noticeable at least. Oh, and if you have some time when going back to Arkngthand, take a look at the outside from the other side of the mountain, you'll clearly see what that big dome room is for (or was for). I think it's a neat detail. Must say, this moment got me laughing a bit: "Fireblade? Why do we have this?" before dropping it on the ground, in front of Sharn who just gave it to Sings-Like-Cor! Threats from eerie self-named "Sleepers", ancient prophecies and beliefs, strange dreams... Looks like things just got a lot more complicated.
I like Danae123's "Friends & Foes" mod for adding random, named NPCs to the roads and wilderness. There are so many bandit caves that I seldom revisit them, but I never run out of random assailants keen to test my mettle, along with traveling merchants and pilgrims making the island feel more lived-in.
Judging from your content, I wish to extend love to the Cor community.
Thank you for making this video Cor. As someone with a Manchurian background, I think I get what you are saying to some extent. Under Chinese colonization, people in Manchuria have been systematically ridiculed and smeared. Their propaganda always accuses Japan and Russia for robbing Manchuria of resources, and when you are under the same roof with Chinese you are only ‘sharing’ with them. And don’t forget to check the rice field; see how much they’ve ruined the diverse landscape. There’s much more to say about industries, natural resources, human resources and policies etc. As for myself, I’ve just learnt about my maternal grandma’s Manchu origin in my 30s because their genealogy was burned during the Cultural Revolution by a relative from Shandong whose children proudly show off their own genealogy to this day. Meanwhile, my grandma avoids talking about it in fear of persecution. This piece of fact alone tells you a lot about Chinese cultural hegemony.
25:58 Cor Canish is cooking about the intersections of unsustainable forever-growth, imperialism, and humans’ capacity & record to abuse not only each other systemically, but likewise the environment (and underscoring their inherent connection), but then my brain screeches to a halt as I hear “…because these are all /interplay/ [emphasis added] with each other.” I’m definitely overthinking this word choice, but I really, really appreciate the use of “interplay” here (vs. intersect, for example) since it immediately lit up the classic Fallout fanboy lizard part of my brain satisfied by pattern recognition where I presume it wasn’t intentional hahaha. For folks who may not happen to be very familiar with the IP’s pre-Bethesda history, Fallout 1 was published + developed by Interplay Entertainment’s RPG team (later restructured into Black Isle Studios as a subsidiary developer team for the sequel, to greatly oversimplify things). So, if that choice of wording was purely coincidental, I still find it an appropriate vocab choice to note given the series history, even if anti-capitalism is purportedly not an intended/explicit thematic thread in that era of the IPs releases, if the frankly media illiterate but still fun storyteller IMO Chris Avellone and his recent Medium.com posting is to be believed. 👀😂
Whaaat, I just checked! He has reviewed the Fallout-series - no better person for it 🍿 Will check it out. And thanks for summarising the point made. I was aware of Interplay, but unfortunately the usage of the word here was completely coincidental 😅 I think... 👀
@@CorCanishPlus Definitely! I give him a hard time, but it’s from a place of love haha. I appreciate your engagement with this off the cuff ramble, I figured I would at least connect my irrational brain fart to the content in a bare minimum rational way. Thank you again for the hard work you put into informing your audience through this shared story and world which we/they are all familiar with & invested in as a means of underscoring the human & natural costs of contemporary ecological imperialism.

If you need a good author to check out, Kohei Saito may be right up your alley! I am almost finished with Slow Down and it has been a great text to inform some of my approaches to sustainability policy within my own community.
Okay one last comment! That claymore is super heavy and might want to consider selling it and using short blades or something lighter. There are other lighter long blades like one handed ones. Cheers!
Sings Like Cor might want to consider learning a bit of alchemy since he is already vested in the arcane arts, also Argonians have a racial bonus towards it if I recall 🤔 Being able to make your own potions can really come in handy and can also be profitable if some extra coin is needed Any alchemist should have a full set of the tools required but I hear caldera mages guild has a nice set you can “borrow”
Ah, time to take a break and indulge in a bit of nostalgia! Faffing about (as you call it) is part of your charm and the series. Hope it doesn't sound too rude though, I'm not great with compliments (and who never let themselves get distracted by other exciting things?) Plus inventory management is often an important part of RPGs, especially after a while without playing, and there's also the spell management aspect, and the worldbuilding along its quests too... Lots of things to get lost into here, really! Anyway, Arkngthand is a pretty memorable place: Snowy Granius the bridge guard (deadly at low levels), its peculiar exterior door (precursor to automatic doors?), its extensive maze of tunnels (luckily without many traps lying around as you pointed out) and other dangers & wonders! A simple only-halfway-through comment, surely more later watching how Sings-Like-Cor gets past the first hurdle of the main quest in the bowels of these Dwemer ruins...
and again a very cool video! :-)
Thank you so much for making this amazing video and doing this important topic justice imo!
Bro the environment is nothing if we had thousands of years to think up a solution we could but nuclear war could happen tomorrow and we haven't thought of a solution yet
It’s called de-armament lol.

Yes we are incredibly close to destroying ourselves. Considering we're playing in the prolog for Fallout 4 leads me to ask myself who designed society to become so fragile or is it just the reckless leadership of the current president that leads us to the verge of making Fallout real
Will the world end, yes
THE RETURN OF THE KING
But it's not the end... It's a new beginning. New tribes will form. Then societies. Empires. Republics. Factions. Superpowers. And then tribes again...
Wonderful!
Sings Like Cor might try 'dropping the ash yam' down the stairs of the Silt Strider port. Its sort of a Balmora tradition.
34 locked door, Ondusi's Key to give open 50pts on touch. Internally I'm screaming at my screen, externally I'm giggling you don't notice. I know you get the key from the box later though. Great video as always though, love seeing Sings like Cor's adventure!
Ah super, thanks, forgot we have that!
I tried to leave a long comment discussing my opinions and experiences as to how they relate to what you discussed and YT apparently instantly took it down. So idk what community guidelines i violated but I would like to point out that the censorship prevalent in all social media makes discussing these topics plainly and directly almost impossible. And it it because of the intellectually feeble that disagreement is viewed as offensive
Pointy hat and shiny scales, He is the hero of many tales. A scholar who doesn't fear a fight, A wizard with both heart and might. By Talos give us an encore ! We can't get enough of Sings-Like-Cor.

Dude welcome back 🎮😎
Wake up dude. Quite wasting your time following the herd of zombie college students. You want to fix all the endless wars? Vote for the orange man.
Anyone who endorsed "the orange man" and refers to other people as "zombie" are beyond salvation. Anyways, those students are heroes and a major component between between us and extinction. If you'd watched my videos, you'd know A) I can't vote in the US for obvious reasons (doh! 🤡) B) That I consider the entire American establishment destructive.
Is there any palestine garbage in this video? Just remember, none of these wars we're seeing in the world right now would be happening if the Orange man were in office. You should start caring about what the people in power are doing to your own country. And remember, people from the middle east don't like you or the values you hold as a progressive individual. Don't be a sheep

Never apologise for caring, Cor. Bless you for using the gifts you have to raise awareness of serious issues but also do remember to take time out for healing your own soul. Your shoulders are broad but they don't have to carry the whole world.

Wahouuu he poster a video!
I don't know anything about Julian Assange as a person and I only briefly know anything about Wiki-Leaks, but I heard a quote from an interview recently that goes something like that: People don't go to war, they only fight in wars when they had been fooled into it. Media makes people think they need wars and there wouldn't be any war, if any form of media would be in a much better form than it is now. In my opinion you can take capitalism and it's media like Marx said what religion is. Media is like opium for the masses, because it makes them numb and nobody tries to hold thought, reason and an open mind close to their beliefs.
Absolutely, thanks! They convince us to accept and further the most damaging of actions and attitudes. Think of how many restless young people were convinced to hate certain parts of the world and to throw themselves into combat against these. Years later, those who survive are neglected as 'ungrateful' veterans. The warmongers and their communicators never had their well-being in mind. And whenever something threatens the perceived idea of "stability" the media organisations are there to label and demonise a perceived threat to "democracy". Even so-called 'left-wing' media are guilty of this.
