(SC) F & Q Change Service At 57 St-6 Av
7:42, a then-brand new R62 subway car in a maintenance car shop, possibly to do its acceptance testing, since he said that was in 1984. 325 cars were built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe, Japan, for the A Division between 1982 and 1985, arranged as single units, but rebuilt and modified to 5-car sets in 1991-92. Family name is SMEE and they replaced all remaining R12s, R14s and R15s, which were all retired by the end of 1984. These cars run on the IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line 1 and 3 lines (Red Line) which are their service assignments as of 2024.
It’s hard to think that the R44s still running on the SIR today are only a few years older than the 1925 SIRTOA ME-1 cars’ age back in 1973 when they were retired by the then-brand-new R44s.
But, cars 6152-6153 damaged from the 2017 derailment on the A line near 125th Street returned to service linked with cars 6206-6207 to create a new four-car set in July 2020. R46 cars 6150 and 6151 were wrecked and unfortunately retired. This new mismated four-car set replaced them. 6207 was connected with 6153.
If the R44 NYCT-operated cars weren’t plagued with structural integrity issues, then they would’ve been retired by the R179 order in March 2022 and the R32s and 42s would’ve been all phased out by the R160s, since they were originally planned to retire in 1999, after a 35-year operating lifespan. The R42s were originally due for retirement in 2004, at the same time frame. But, both car classes ended up remaining in service for another decade, with the R160 order only getting rid of one-third of the original fleet with 232 R32s (222 of which were assigned to the 207th Street Yard, operating on the A and C) and 50 R42s by January 2011. But, on December 18, 2009, the MTA discovered various structural integrity issues with their fleet of R44s and decided to retire them due to the R160 delivery nearly complete. This was in place of the remaining R32s and R42s which were being retired by the R160 order at the time and their retirement paused indefinitely and were forced to stay in service for another decade. The R32s were not highly expected to be in passenger operation for nearly 60 years and they have survived well past their specified service life of 35 years as touted by NYCT when they first hit the tracks in 1964. They were the last cars built - prior to the agency’s merger with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 1968 - to remain in service. The longest-lasting R32s were in service for almost 58 years, currently the longest such service life in New York City rapid transit operations. They are the oldest rolling stock since the retirement of the Redbird trains and the oldest rolling stock of any metro system in North America, as well as some of the oldest rolling stock of any metro system anywhere in the world. The R32s outlasted the newer R38s, R40s, R42s and New York City Transit R44s. This is called their “Longevity”. The R179 order replaced the remainder of the R32s in the early 2020s with the final train running on March 10, 2022. After retirement, the R32s were towed through the South Brooklyn Railway crossing 3rd Avenue, then being interchanged with NYNJ rail and brought to 65th St Rail Yard to finally be sent away for scrap to Ohio, a process that started in April 2022.
For God’s sake, lose that idiotic “music.”
Love!
5:12; The BMT 16 line is used as the "L" train service for going Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway to Eighth Avenue-14th. Street in Manhattan.
5:05; The BMT 14 and 15 line reminded me like the "J" and "Z" train going to Jamaica Center in Queens for "skip-stop" express trains.
3:40; This BMT 10 line is used for the brown "M" line that goes to Chamber Street (Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall) to Metropolitan Avenue running with the "J" at the Nassau Line, the Williamsburg Bridge, and then, running at the Myrtle Avenue line.
3:18; The BMT 7 is used for a train as the Franklin Avenue Shuttle which ran from Franklin Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn to Prospect Park.
3:05; The BMT 5 for the Culver Line was used as a shuttle as the double "S" train, but later, tracks have been scrapped, and the Ninth Avenue station was used for "D" train service whereas Ditmas Avenue was used for "F" train service.
2:58; The Sea Beach Line is for the BMT 4 referring to the "N" train going to Coney Island.
2:47; The west end line for the BMT 3 service is used for the "D" train that happened in the 1980s before the JFK express train began. Also, it is confusing that the "D" is a Queens bound train in the late 1980s, but now it is a Bronx bound train to Norwood.
2:30; The BMT 2 is like the "R" train going Bay Ridge-95th. Street to Forest Hills-71st. Avenue.
2:11; The BMT 1 that is named "Brighton Beach Line referred to the "B" or "Q" train that is renamed for the line, and it goes to 57th. Street Midtown or Harlem.
Looks like a bluebird
It is a "bluebird" scheme because this set of R10s happened in the 1960s where they painted white with a robin's blue egg paint on the body of the car. It is also used from the IRT trains before the "redbird" scheme in the late 1980s as a promotion for the graffiti that is messed up on every car in the 1970s. The R10 car in the "bluebird" scheme with a bunch of cars first ran in 1966 on the "B" line in Brooklyn at DeKalb Avenue for the Christie Lines.
3:17 2009 was the best one
Very interesting history.

Why r110b 3001 scarped
Can you do history on the R160/R160A/R160B please
All this and TrainWorld right downstairs. ❤
@TRRailfan you hadn’t upload a video for months now
this is exactly what I was looking for, thanks for posting this man ;)
Love!
Great video. I remember passing through cars where the slanted sides were back to back - scary!
Well it's safer than before, because they added pantograph gates and handholds (You can see them both in my profile)
Next can you do R10 photo sideshow?
Not enough photos towards the beginning of their lives since cameras weren't common in the 1950s
@@TRRailfanok
What about R14 photo sideshow, because you never did an IRT train sideshow before.
