Great tutorial! I've been re-learning the swing after a back injury, and this demo was just what I needed.
Yay! So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and your training! 💪🔥
From 1:30-132 when you roll up onto your elbow, are you using momentum. I don’t know why, but even just using body weight, I can’t figure this out without trying some type of crunching motion where my core, and torso doesn’t remain rigid.
Hi! Have you watched this video yet? It goes into detail on the roll to elbow step of the get-up. It will help! ruclips.net/video/icRqKqfVqIM/видео.htmlsi=X8AbAtrzij2a8A5_ I wouldn't say the torso is "rigid". There is an acceptable amount of flexion in the spine and torso during the roll to elbow. Remember to push the grounded foot hard into the ground. This is a great question, but it's to a level of detail that you need a coach's eyes on you. If you join us in learnkettlebells.com, you can post a RUclips video in our community of you doing a get-up, or the roll to elbow step, and I can help you out! All the best and keep up the strong work! 💪
Informative as always ! 😊
Yay, thanks Kai! So glad it was helpful! Keep up the STRONG work! 💪
At 1:40 when you start demonstrating, should most of the weight be distributed to your right side knee/leg?
@honkhonk1555- Yes, that's correct! The "down" leg is supporting the majority of your weight. You're basically doing a single-leg-kneeling-hip-hinge on that leg. LMK if any other questions come up! ☺💪
This was amazing! Thank you so much
Yay, we're so glad it was helpful! Keep up the strong skill-practice! 💪 Get-ups are the magical anti-aging pill that everyone should be taking 😜
Brilliantly explained👍🏾
Thank you! Glad it was helpful 👍💪
I just discovered your channel while looking for drills on shoulder packing. A very underestimated skill in KB training and often glossed over but so important (especially if you want to avoid injury). I will be doing your drills as I practice for the one hand swing and (hopefully soon) the clean and press. Thank you so much for your informative videos! I'm binge watching your channel next. 😊

I hope the ones at Dunham's sporting goods are good, ill have to go investigate
Hi! We don't have Dunham's sporting goods here in WA, but we recommend cast iron bells if you can find them. Also, we made an updated version of this video here! The info is more current :) Thanks so much for watching! ruclips.net/video/JGLbEJhKtBc/видео.htmlsi=7zwypZLluTUE7wBL
Great advice !
Thanks! So glad it was helpful! 🙌💪
Thank you Cat for this tutorial. I struggled a lot with back rounding on the deadlift and it seems your technique finally made the deadlift work for me. If you have a few seconds, could you be so kind and quickly check if my technique looks ok to you? Thank you! ruclips.net/user/shortsCt3gtudoRwA I'm aware that the eccentric still looks a bit goofy.. I'm working on bending my knees later on the way down.
Strong deadlifts! Your wedge and liftoff look really good! My only tip for you is to hold your standing plank at the top for 1-2 seconds. You could work on hitting that TIGHT standing plank and owning the top position for 1-2 seconds. Focus on: - Crush a walnut with glutes - Pull kneecaps up - Brace abs hard - Squeeze armpits down your sides - Try to bend the bar around your body - Get tall through head - Root and grip floor with feet After you own the standing plank, you can send the hips back and start lowering the bar. STRONG work!! 💪🔥
@CatChau thanks so much for taking the time to check and to answer! I'm very grateful of your additional tips and will definitely incorporate them into my workout. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this. So helpful
So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! Let us know how your deadlifting is going with the wedge technique! :)

Yay! Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! 🙏💪
Thank you
You're welcome!
This is the best description of these I have seen. One more thing I would also like to have after all this instruction is to know from where to initiate the movement. Probably core (?), but then also, which muscular contractions should be focused on to bring the body upright? Is it the glute of one of the two legs?
Thanks! So glad it was helpful! This is actually a 1-minute edit of 5-minute video. So the full length one might be helpful. To answer your questions: - The movement is initiated by the hip hinge, so the lower body. Think about initiating the movement by sending the hips back into the hinge. The primary drivers that bring you from the hinge back up to the tall half kneeling position are the glute and hamstring. - The core is very much “on” and braced the whole time. But the core is working to stabilize the torso and keep the spine neutral. So the core isn’t really driving or initiating movement. It’s working as a stabilizer. Think about bracing your abs for a punch, and anti-shrugging your shoulders down away from your ears. Hope this helps! ☺️💪 ruclips.net/video/J-o8tNSX9c0/видео.htmlsi=O1bQqz8Xjfd6vh-e
That was a potent 3 minutes.
Haha, great use of the word potent! So glad you liked it and got something out of it. Thanks for watching and keep up the strong work! 💪

Mistake number one: hitting your head and getting a black eye. Go for a lighter KB.
Oh no!! Did you really give yourself a black eye? I’m so sorry! Yes, use a lighter bell and take it slowly ☺️💪
@@CatChau it’s ok. My fault. One must respect kettlebells.
Hi there, as a general rule, you are allways stronger in the excentric phase of a movement than in your concentric counterpart :) I have a question though: In your expertise, how much do you need to be able to strict press overhead with a kttlebell in relation to a TUG? You can use a 44 kg getup as an example.
Hi! This depends on the individual and there are a lot of variables at play here (getup technique, press technique, years of training experience, etc.). I did some calculations and I think it’s safe to say that most experienced kettlebell folks should be able to do a getup with a bell that is 20-40% heavier than her/his 1RM military press bell. Examples with the 44kg bell for the getup: • If you can do a 44kg getup, you can most likely press the 32kg for at least 1 rep. The 44kg is 32% heavier than the 32kg. • If you can do a 44kg getup, you might also be able to press the 36kg for at least 1 rep. The 44kg is 20% heavier than the 32kg. In my opinion, if someone’s 1RM military press bell is the 28kg, it’s unlikely that that person will be able to do a 44kg getup. Similarly, if someone’s 1RM military press bell is the 40kg, then that person can most likely do a *heavier* getup than the 44kg. Hope this helps! Thanks!
@@CatChau Thank you so much for your expertise answer and time and thought going into your reply 🙏🇸🇪🙏 My question and underlying curiousity stems from the fact that there is new girl in the gym, which is very well equiped with kettlebells, that at 55 kg bodyweight can do a 44 kg getup with both left and right hand. As a life time trainee and physical therapist I figured she must have some bionic strenght 💪 We armwrestled and I won pretty comfortably, dispite not being able to hold the 40 kg kettlebell even in the starting position. I thought the overhead strenght must be huge but below the getup weight. But I had no idea what is "normally" required. Now, thanks to you, I have a good idea what she can do on a strict press, which even at the lowest weight (32 kg) is more than I can do! I conclude, she must have let me win the armwrestle, and Will stay the f*** away from asking if she wants a rematch 😁😁😁
Thank you 🙏🙏🇸🇪🇸🇪🙏🙏
Very clear. Great content. Thank you
So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Hi, what weight kettlebell are you using in this clip?
Hi there! For all of the drills in this video I’m using the 12kg bell. When I’m training snatches, I use the 16kg or heavier. Thanks for watching! ☺️🙏
@@CatChauthank you for reply. I have a long way to go then 😂 I had to look up what snatches are/mean and I only imagined using 6 or 8kg, although I haven't actually tried it yet. I'm worried about if it's possible, or what's the likeliness of dropping or through the bell inside
@@suzannehill2111 - You're doing great! Everyone starts with a light bell when first learning the snatch! I've been snatching for 10 years now so I've done a few snatches lol, and I've had a lot of reps and time to work my way up to heavier bells. Yes, start with the 6kg, get the feel for it. You'll move up to the 8kg quickly -- within 2-3 practice sessions. Then you can practice with the 8kg for awhile before moving up to the 10kg! The first half of this video will help you. It shows you how to snatch the bell up, then pull it down into the rack, then snatch again. This allows you to work on the "up" part of the snatch before worrying about the drop, or the "down" part of the snatch: ruclips.net/video/LN732j-VVQ0/видео.htmlsi=fTFt_-HuRJ1Dhmqy

Thoughts on types of bells (iron vs sand vs adjustable)?
Hi there! We always recommend cast iron kettlebells as they're the most durable and the good ones have the best proportions for handle thickness, handle size, texture, etc. I've heard good things from some KB beginners about the adjustable bells. So if you really want to have more than one size bell in the form of one kettlebell, some people like the adjustable ones, from a budget and space-saving POV. The sand kettlebells would be a hard no. ❌ Those aren't kettlebells -- they're basically a purse filled with sand. Completely different feel, center of gravity, etc. Our fave KB brands are here! (Scroll down to the kettlebells): www.catandchau.com/recommended-gear/
@@CatChauThank you. Yes, I'm now stuck between Rogue Fitness powder-coated cast iron or Kettle Bell Kings competition. 🤔 It's convenient to order Kettle Bell Kings 2 competition (blue and yellow) on Amazon, and I like the standard comp styles. Yet I could spend a little more and get 3 Rogue bells (13, 26, 35 lbs) 🤔. Not sure which is better. Is the grip really that different on competition v cast iron for an beginner/intermediate KB user? doing squats and arm raises? I've only used them in classes/gyms and would like to get some for my home gym. I'd like to invest in 2 or 3 good bells, since it's really a lifetime workout item. Thank you for replying!!! ❤
@@NovaPrincess Hi! One of the key differences between the cast iron bells and the competition bells is that competition bells are designed for one-handed movements only. So if you want to do two-hand swings with your bell, you'll want a cast iron bell for that, because the handle is big enough to fit two hands into it. It will be weird / challenging to do two-hand swings with a competition bell. But aside from that, for squats, one-arm swings, cleans, military presses, etc... I feel like you could go either way. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
Based on this, I’d happily watch your other PL videos. Thanks
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad it was helpful! We have some more kettlebell videos coming up soon. Are there any specific lifts (barbell or kettlebell) you want to learn more about?
Would the straps at the back really hold it? Those at my store was for up to 500 kg (or is that with load and speed in mind? Safety factor?) whereas chains was 1000-1600 kg or so. Then again that's what some ropes do too ...
I think at this point it’s a judgement call. You are correct in that the rating for the straps is for a static load (e.g. 500 kg of static weight). A kettlebell or any load that is moving has momentum, and is therefore a dynamic weight. A dynamic weight exerts more force than a static weight. Just use whatever method of securing the bells you prefer (straps or chains), and use common sense. Don’t overload your vehicle and drive extra carefully! 👍
@@CatChau Number I get using Google (seem to be from sakerhund.se) is 40 times the weird at 50 km/h. Personally I would travel about 400 km with varying speed but on average more than 50 ... If we go with the 32 kg then 32 * 40 = 1280 but it would also pull towards two points so half that? But then higher speed. If a seat belt is supposed to hold an adult, then again the adult put that pressure against more surface area of the belt if that would matter. I liked your idea about using the seat belts. Actually bought a 5 meter chain with 10 mm carbine hooks or whatever they are called in case I would fix it to the floor at the back like you did but seat belts .. Then again I kinda wanted to fold the back seat but I don't have to. *128 at 90 ... 32 * 128 = 4096 kg. Is that two vehicles colliding or one? And full stop?
Hi Cat, I'm on a budget so I just want to get one kettle bell which I can use for all kind of moves. What weight would you recommend ? I'm a female in my mid-forties. I'm familiar with basic resistant training and can do men's push-up FYI.
Hi there! Hey, any female in her mid-40s who is doing full pushups is a superstar! Excellent work in your training! 🔥 Keep reading for the full answer: Here are my thoughts: If you can get your hands on some kettlebells (i.e. pop into a gym) and figure out which bell you can press (military press) overhead with good form for 5-7 reps, that’s going to be your best first bell to buy. Since you can do a men’s pushup, I’m going to GUESS that this will be close to the 12kg (26 lb) kettlebell. But it depends on your baseline strength as well as your height and weight. Your ideal bell also could be the 10kg or the 14kg! Our favorite brands of kettlebells are here (scroll down to the bells): www.catandchau.com/recommended-gear/ To get the best deal, you have to shop around a bit. I recommend joining the email lists of RKC DragonDoor and Rogue, because then you’ll get an email if/when they’re running a sale. OR, you can just buy your kettlebell from Amazon. Make sure you have Amazon Prime so you can get free shipping! Sometimes buying the bell full price from Amazon and getting free shipping is cheaper than getting a discounted bell from the kettlebell-maker (e.g. RKC DragonDoor) with their shipping costs. Just do some price comparisons and you'll figure out the best option. Sorry for the long comment! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and keep up the super strong work! 💪

In the calendar for tomorrow! My arms are gonna be like "cleans again, seriously"
Haha your arms! You're killin' it! And remember, with the clean: "Hips drive, arms guide." That means the power should come from your legs and hips -- driving your feet hard into the ground and powering the bells up with a forceful leg drive. The arms should be fast, but they should not be "muscling" or "curling" the bells up into the rack. If your arms are working too hard, that means your legs aren't working hard enough. Keep up the great work and skill practice! 💪

Hello fellow hiker! Nice video! I always wondered how to lift kettlebells without hurting myself. Thanks for sharing this video ❤
Goobie and Doobie!! So great to meet you on the trail today! Hope to run into you again on a WA trail someday! ☺️🥾
This is brillant information. Alway had sharp lower back pain, two things helped me a lot. One is loosening the belt (i was having it way too tight, so my abs couldn't do their job) and two is wedging. If you want to know why and how, don't look any Fürther. They really did a good Video here.
Hi Bernie, thank you for the super nice comment! 🙏 So glad this has been helpful! Yes, the wedge was a huge "aha" moment for me. I have scoliosis, a big S-curve in my spine, so protecting my lower back felt extra important for me. Great point about the belt being too tight! 👍 Keep up the strong work!! 💪
