    I’ve been working out with the bells for many years, and I find that as I age (81) I’m finding a 10kg and 2 x 8kg. Bilateral workouts are fantastic and really push the buttons. I use competition bells, and have 1 x 16kg bell for deadlifts and swings.

    Great rule of thump suggestions! What about pairing kettlebells?

    • @CatChau
      @CatChau  11 месяцев назад +5

      Great question! Your first pair of double kettlebells should be a pair that you can front squat with good form for 5-8 reps. This will usually be the medium-sized bell for most folks. But it could also be the lighter bell, depending on the person.
      For example, if you're a guy who starts out with a 12kg, a 16kg, and a 20kg, you'll most likely want to buy a second 16kg so you have two 16kg kettlebells, and you can do your double kettlebell work with those. As you get stronger, you can always add another 20kg so you have two 20kg bells.
      Glad this was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting! 🙏💪

    Adjustable kettle bells?

    Thoughts on types of bells (iron vs sand vs adjustable)?

    • @CatChau
      @CatChau  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! We always recommend cast iron kettlebells as they're the most durable and the good ones have the best proportions for handle thickness, handle size, texture, etc.
      I've heard good things from some KB beginners about the adjustable bells. So if you really want to have more than one size bell in the form of one kettlebell, some people like the adjustable ones, from a budget and space-saving POV.
      The sand kettlebells would be a hard no. ❌ Those aren't kettlebells -- they're basically a purse filled with sand. Completely different feel, center of gravity, etc.

      @@CatChauThank you. Yes, I'm now stuck between Rogue Fitness powder-coated cast iron or Kettle Bell Kings competition. 🤔 It's convenient to order Kettle Bell Kings 2 competition (blue and yellow) on Amazon, and I like the standard comp styles. Yet I could spend a little more and get 3 Rogue bells (13, 26, 35 lbs) 🤔. Not sure which is better. Is the grip really that different on competition v cast iron for an beginner/intermediate KB user? doing squats and arm raises? I've only used them in classes/gyms and would like to get some for my home gym. I'd like to invest in 2 or 3 good bells, since it's really a lifetime workout item. Thank you for replying!!! ❤

      @@NovaPrincess Hi! One of the key differences between the cast iron bells and the competition bells is that competition bells are designed for one-handed movements only. So if you want to do two-hand swings with your bell, you'll want a cast iron bell for that, because the handle is big enough to fit two hands into it. It will be weird / challenging to do two-hand swings with a competition bell. But aside from that, for squats, one-arm swings, cleans, military presses, etc... I feel like you could go either way. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

    Hi Cat, I'm on a budget so I just want to get one kettle bell which I can use for all kind of moves. What weight would you recommend ? I'm a female in my mid-forties. I'm familiar with basic resistant training and can do men's push-up FYI.

      Hi there! Hey, any female in her mid-40s who is doing full pushups is a superstar! Excellent work in your training! 🔥 Keep reading for the full answer:
      Here are my thoughts: If you can get your hands on some kettlebells (i.e. pop into a gym) and figure out which bell you can press (military press) overhead with good form for 5-7 reps, that’s going to be your best first bell to buy.
      Since you can do a men’s pushup, I’m going to GUESS that this will be close to the 12kg (26 lb) kettlebell. But it depends on your baseline strength as well as your height and weight. Your ideal bell also could be the 10kg or the 14kg!

      To get the best deal, you have to shop around a bit. I recommend joining the email lists of RKC DragonDoor and Rogue, because then you’ll get an email if/when they’re running a sale. OR, you can just buy your kettlebell from Amazon. Make sure you have Amazon Prime so you can get free shipping! Sometimes buying the bell full price from Amazon and getting free shipping is cheaper than getting a discounted bell from the kettlebell-maker (e.g. RKC DragonDoor) with their shipping costs. Just do some price comparisons and you'll figure out the best option.
      Sorry for the long comment! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and keep up the super strong work! 💪
