How to Tune a UHF Duplexer for Ham Radio and GMRS
Tuning the PD526 UHF Duplexer
I have a friend, I'll call him Tuje (pronounced Tooge). He has decades of experience in commercial VHF/UHF radio communications. He wants to share his knowledge, but he also wants to remain anonymous. I offered to host his videos on my channel. So here is another video in an ongoing series of helpful videos, primarily relating to VHF communications, but certainly not limited to that topic.

5 watts for Summits on the Air on VHF, HF and CW
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
My wife, Sandy W7NRS, joins me for this activation on Madera Mountain. Since I am working through an injury, we chose a Summits on the Air peak with a short hike. Sandy operates voice and I operate CW. I try out the new Fara-J 2 meter antenna using my FT-60r, then we operate on 10 meters with the Yaesu FT-817 transceiver, and finally I use the CFT1 transceiver and KM4CFT Morse code paddle on 20...

On a return visit to the Navajo Nation, I once again stayed over at Herb's place and we had fun exploring the area. In this video I take you along as we activate a SOTA summit that has never been activated. Herb and I were the first to put it on the air. Rockmite Plus Plus QRP Transceiver Kit in the Field

Sometimes SOTA activations don’t go as planned. This one was one of those. I had some success with the activation but a little trouble with recording the contacts I got on the little Rockmite QRP Transceiver. Rex Harper’s Rockmite ][ is a fun kit to build and the 6-7 hundred milliwatts can still get you the contacts. QRPme Website: qrpme.com/ Rockmite ][ Order Page: qrpme.com/?p=product&id=RMBM...

Honoring Navajo Code Talkers Through Ham Radio
Very cool, going all 1st principles...an SDR would've really shown the signal well.
How does the g106 compare to the G90?
I would use an Exacto to cut through the copper, then use a soldering iron to lift up the copper and solder components to the clad. If you are good at it, you can easily make boards that will last forever.
What is that dongle between the antenna and the radio?
So... no balun, just an adapter that connects a whip to center and a whip to the ground of a coax.... ??
Excellent
There is an ‘L’ in the word Solder!!!
I remembering building my first DC, then superhet. Lots of fun
That’s pretty cool
Completely unnecessary. Most components are so light, you just solder them together. Larger and heavier parts, like a big cap, can be glued to the board and used as support. The ground connections do this as well. With the proper layout, this may be all you need.
It's the first time I see it.
With AI becoming more proficient at Chats, why not use an AI-based trainer to learn code using actual QSO between you and the AI app? But none exist at the moment. Are any programmers up for the challenge?
I bet that if you had slowed down a bit you would have worked more stations.
70 years old and new to CW. I'll never be a Thomas (NC), Joe (NJ), or Charlie (AZ or is it NM?) but did just order the VBand USB Interface. I'm just hoping on the VBand site there is a channel for the SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW keyers! Please recommend a desktop paddle <$70 I'm gonna need one :)
Google’s advertising strategy has broken their search. I find duck duck go better probably half the time, and that’s just greed breaking google’s search. I think as it gets better, Google will continue to slide. Most folks don’t care either way, so it’s just me.
You should be using a Return Loss Bridge to get it even more accurate. Plus, why do you have your settings started at -24 lol - Good grief.
Copy the circuit, stick onto a piece of wood bang in some panel pins.
At this point just use breadboard
Manhattan circuit connection sounds like a great racing game. Or d&b album
I know it's an old post Charlie but there is new interest in these manual Z-match tuners. I wonder if you tried only the wires with the tuner. It is even more efficient at high Z so if the setup has the 9:1 core is right at the tuner it, the transformer is probably not needed. I will have to try it. Cheers es 73
how many parasitic capacitances does this board has? - Yes
Another thank you for the code tickertape....really helping me learn CW AND the step-by-step of SOTA exchanges. Though I'd like to see a written step-by-step exchange, that would help too.
So just point to point?
First time seeing that technique
This is why we learn how to design PCB’s lol
Robert Oppenheimer would be proud of this project. ba dum tsss
Kurt has great tools! Got me to 18 WPM, Rag chew / 20wpm Short QSO..Congrats on great tools / DE NN2X
I using solder breadboard. and i know way, how solder esp32 module on it. and i talking not about esp dev board.
That is an interesting idea and not one I've ever seen before. Thanks for the video. I don't understand the need for the bottom copper-clad board. Why not just leave the upper black solder-pad board intact and solder directly onto it? Its pads appear to already be electrically-isolated from each other, which eliminates the need to physically detach them from one another.
SoLder, soLder, soLder. NOT Sodder. Please, let's get Americans to pronounce soLder with an L in the middle, because their version sounds so awful.... sorry guys, it just is.
Great !
Glad I watched this video. The magnet fell of the bottom of the key when I removed the key from the box for the very first time today .
Yeah i just noticed this. Im thinking about looking into lawsuit.
I hike and activate with WA6MM sometimes. I'll send him a link to this video.
Hi Charlie, came across your video when searching through Google. Nice to hear that you appreciate my website (Schurr collection). For using the key really in the field an appropriate cover would be good. And - as you said - the adjustment of the tension is also something that I miss. All the best for 2025 ! Markus, DL1DSN
Nice video, nice radio, nice cw; good work. 73
Yes back into 76 75s crystal set simple with two coils
reminds me of Minecraft
Red Summit YOU are the reason I'm learning CW like a mad man! Also glad for this second vid on the 5105. It is in my top 2 choices for an HF rig (the other is the FX4CR). I almost dropped the 5105 as a contender post your first vid on it. I do wonder if Xiegu addressed your other problem---the woefully slow battery charging ???? Also, have you read that if using external power and trasmitting AND suddenly loose external power that you can destroy the radio ? I'm subscribing. Thanks for the work you put into these vids, and I'll have you know that I can actually follow/understand the CW that you scroll across the vids during the CW activation!
This "Latest" firmware is a secret....Right?
Manhattan style samples are quite good for testing your ideas or schematic. If you want to have some more for friends, colleagues or for the youth of your HAM Club, the effort of building ist the same on every piece. When the "golden sample" works, I invest time in making a pcb board, either THT or SMD (RF), so the module building is mostly independent from the solder skills.... ❤
Morse, not Morris.
Great.
I'd use perf board instead.
Allow 1-2 spools of soldier(?)
uhhhhhhhhh what is that i never seen a circuit board that looked like that xd
Very old technology, but better cross all copper layer by knife to little squares and not need any glue
Why not using a simple breadboard ??? ... 🤔🤔🤔
